Department description: Community Research and Grants Management (CRGM) plays a unique role in convening community discussions around areas of need, and participating in community initiatives and partnerships to address these needs. Furthermore, the department works diligently to deploy charitable capital to central Ohio, in addition to engaging with and educating donors on the most pressing needs where their philanthropy will be well invested for positive social returns.
Position description: The Director, Capacity Building and Community Knowledge is responsible for helping the Foundation to achieve its goal of strengthening and improving the community by leading efforts of capacity building, training, and continued education for leaders across the Foundation’s grant portfolio, and for the central Ohio nonprofit sector. Additionally, the Director will join colleagues in CRGM through grantmaking by researching, reviewing, and recommending strategic investments, maintaining awareness and understanding of trends and current events in our community, and providing support to the nonprofit community.
This role will work closely with the Vice President of Community Research and Grants Management, the team of CRGM Directors, colleagues across departments, nonprofit leaders, external consultants, and members of the community.
Key Responsibilities
I. CAPACITY BUILDING and GRANTS
A. Assist in developing and implementing the most effective social investments to strengthen and improve the community.
B. Identify and initiate efforts to address unmet community needs.
C. Review and research proposals, confer with others in the field, prepare written memoranda and recommendations to the Governing Committee.
D. Develop and deliver year-round curriculum of relevant capacity building programming (e.g., Nonprofit Forums, cohort-based learning, manage consultant engagements, direct grantee relationships, etc.)
E. Lead sector building grantmaking, supporting organizations and the nonprofit sector with direct grantmaking investments that strengthen organizational infrastructure, build capacity, and improve organizational and community outcomes.
II. COMMUNITY
A. Develop and lead community conversations to address issues and needs important to strengthening and improving central Ohio—with an emphasis on capacity building, technical assistance.
B. Identify, lead in, and collaborate on priority interest areas.
C. Develop and lead programs and strategies to increase the effectiveness of nonprofits serving our community.
D. Respond to inquiries about the grants program in assigned areas of responsibility.
E. Represent the Foundation at meetings, on committees, in the community, and at events.
III. DONOR SERVICES AND DEVELOPMENT / SUPPORTING FOUNDATIONS
A. Assist in the development and the implementation of strategies that cultivate effective social investments to support a community need while honoring donor intent.
B. Provide research to donor services and development and supporting foundations as requested.
C. Assist donors, supporting foundations, and other grant makers by developing and sharing community knowledge on current needs and activities in the nonprofit sector, and explanation and examples on the importance of capacity building for organizations, the sector, and nonprofit leaders.
Skills: The desired candidate must demonstrate a proven track record of project implementation and management—have comfort in both highly collaborative environments as well as in self-starting, self-driven tasks. Candidate must have experience with managing co-occurring priorities, and ensuring timely delivery of a high-quality work product, including through written and/or oral presentation. Experience in event production and logistics, or teaching courses are a plus. Candidates who have a working knowledge of the greater Columbus area, community foundations, consulting and advising nonprofits, and/or who have relevant formal training and comparable experience, are desired. Superior interpersonal skills, strong public speaking, research and writing capabilities are needed to be successful in this role.
Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of the nonprofit sector required.
• Experience with methodologies and tactics aligned with building the capacity, efficiency, and strength of nonprofits.
• Familiarity with project management, or development of curricula and training programming preferred.
• Master’s or advanced degree required.
• Ten+ years of experience working in nonprofit, government, educational, consultancy firm, funding, or community-oriented organizations desired.

Anticipated Salary Range:
$100,000 to $120,000

• Evaluate event performance, including participant feedback,

• Lead the planning, management, and execution of various special
events to help meet fundraising goals, such as Golf Classic, The
CannonBall, Grant Reception, and community celebrations.
• Ensure all logistics and timelines are met with the highest
level of quality and efficiency.
• Develop and manage event budgets, procurement processes, and
vendor contracts to optimize resources and ensure
cost-effectiveness.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders,
vendors, and sponsors to secure resources and support for special
events.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing,
communications, production and operations, to ensure seamless event
integration and alignment with the Foundation's messaging and
mission.
• Work with the Corporate Partnerships and Activation Department
to ensure sponsor recognition of Foundation initiatives and events
aligns with the level of sponsorship packages.
• Recruit and lead volunteers, provide clear direction,
coordinate staffing needs, and ensure top-notch customer service is
provided to all fans.
• Evaluate event performance, including participant feedback,
attendance, and fundraising outcomes, to identify areas for
improvement and inform future event strategy and
planning.
• Work closely with the Foundation Programs & Operations
Manager on functions that support fundraising, such as database
management, donor acknowledgments and communications. Ensure
applicable local, state, and federal laws, codes, rules and
regulations are followed.
• Develop donor recognition initiatives and ensure retention of
stakeholder relationships to encourage future gifts to the Blue
Jackets Foundation.
• Raise the profile of the Blue Jackets Foundation locally,
focusing on the Blue Jackets as a leader in corporate social
responsibility among other local organizations and other
professional sports teams.
• Support the Foundation's game night initiatives, such as
auction and 50/50 raffle operations, fan experience fulfillment,
hosting Foundation grant partners.
• Assists with the development of strategic fundraising
plan.
• Support community development programs and initiatives, as
needed.

THE ROLE:
Reporting directly to the President and Interim CEO of JewishColumbus, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) will serve as a key member of the Leadership Team, and will provide the leadership, management, and oversight necessary to lead JewishColumbus' overall fundraising and fund holder strategies, expand its network of donors, and increase support from individuals, foundations and corporate contributors.
As a member of the Leadership Team, the CDO will participate in decision-making processes necessary to successfully attain JewishColumbus' mission. QUALIFICATIONS:
Seeking an individual with diverse experience who enjoys managing complex situations and has the initiative, skills, and sensitivity needed to manage organizational change and create systems that increase organizational efficiency while supporting our culture and values.
• Minimum Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
• Successful record of at least 10 years in the development field and experience in not-for-profit organizations; experience with Jewish institutions preferred

As a member of the Leadership Team, the CDO will participate in decision-making processes necessary to successfully attain JewishColumbus' mission. The ideal candidate will effectively manage a variety of duties in a fast-paced environment. This role requires a candidate who is proactive and strategic in their approach to problem solving.
Candidates must be creative, nimble and capable of working collaboratively across the organization.
JewishColumbus seeks an outstanding leader with high emotional intelligence, strong management skills and a proven track record of soliciting major donors and planned gifts, who will strategically guide and build upon the current fundraising program. The CDO will provide the vision, leadership, strategic direction, management and coordination for the Financial Resource Development Team to maximize fundraising opportunities that both build on existing efforts and grow the organization's capacity.

Oversee a team of 8-12 professionals, including between 3-5 direct reports
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITES:
• Strategic oversight of the Financial Resource Development Team, with a focus on building a cohesive, collaborative environment and creating opportunities for professional development
• Partner closely with cross-functional team members, including Operations, Finance, Community Impact and Marketing
• Work with the Development team to build strong relationships and trust with their peers at all levels of the organization
• As a part of JewishColumbus' Leadership Team, lead and/or partner on organization-wide strategic initiatives
• In partnership with lay leadership, serve as a trusted advisor to the JewishColumbus Board of Trustees, Foundation Board and several committees
COMMITTEE RESPONSIBILITES:
• Oversee the Financial Resource Committee
• Work with the Board of Trustees and Board Committees in partnership with the professional Leadership Team
STRATEGY:
• Develop a strategic, comprehensive total financial resource development plan and assist in its implementation and evaluation of impact on an ongoing basis
• Cultivate prospects, steward major donors in collaboration with the CEO and the Board of Trustees
• Design innovative development strategies to grow JewishColumbus' base of donors and support, utilizing a variety of fundraising techniques
• Create and implement plan to research, identify, and cultivate potential new individual and corporate funders
• Responsible for creating and managing development budget.
MANAGEMENT:
• Oversee the Financial Resource Development Team, ensuring a high level of quality, efficiency, and professionalism
• Maintain close communication with CEO and CFO regarding fundraising strategies and progress towards goals; report monthly to the Board of Trustees
• Establish and implement a plan to track fiscal year fundraising metrics including personal visits and contacts, stewardship activities, solicitations, proposed gifts, grants and prospect qualification and identification
• Provide mentoring and leadership to development staff to accomplish strategic goals
STEWARDSHIP & CULTIVATION:
• Manage a portfolio of donors, Fund Holders and prospects
• Implement an effective donor relationship management program
• Assist JewishColumbus Leadership and high-level ambassadors with the cultivation and solicitation of key prospects. Provide written materials and oral briefings and accompany them on prospect visits, as appropriate
• Work with the Senior Foundation Director on fund holder stewardships and communication
QUALIFICATIONS:
Seeking an individual with diverse experience who enjoys managing complex situations and has the initiative, skills, and sensitivity needed to manage organizational change and create systems that increase organizational efficiency while supporting our culture and values.
• Minimum Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred
• Successful record of at least 10 years in the development field and experience in not-for-profit organizations; experience with Jewish institutions preferred
• High degree of initiative and resourcefulness, with the ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced office environment
• Superior oral and written communication skills to express the mission and fundraising goals of JewishColumbus
• Flexible and adaptable to take on new responsibilities within a growing organization
• Knowledge of and experience in planned giving required

Business Planning - Coach a Fiscally Sponsored Organization on Gaining Nonprofit Status
Chicago Grows Food is a fiscally sponsored organization looking to become a 501c3. I'm hoping to discuss what this might entail and whether it is worth it for our organization to do this in the short term.
CGF is looking for support in its journey to establish a 501c3 or alternative plans. As a fiscally sponsored nonprofit, we are working to become a 501c3 or better understand what other options we have to better receive funding.
Using Taproot Plus, CGF had a one-time session to begin discussions about what this entails, including the steps it will take to build a board before establishing a 501c3.
