Job Summary

The Maintenance Repairperson I provides general maintenance and repairs to campus facilities in compliance with work orders and the preventive maintenance schedule. The Maintenance Repairperson I diagnoses and troubleshoots issues to determine necessary repairs, and performs general and electrical repairs. The Maintenance Repairperson I is responsible for preventative maintenance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and maintaining and repairing the building plumbing system. The Maintenance Repairperson I cleans, assists with upkeep of the facilities, and provides general support in other areas.

Essential Job Functions

Maintenance
• Performs general maintenance and repairs to campus facilities in compliance with work orders and preventive maintenance schedule. Routinely inspects the building, equipment, or machines on a weekly basis for repair needs. Troubleshoots general issues to determine necessary repairs. Performs/ troubleshoots basic electrical repairs. Takes volt and amp readings. Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician.
• Repairs and/or assists with repairing drywall, paint, doors and other building fixtures. Lays floor coverings, repairs roofs and minor tile, and performs general masonry work. Assists in replacing motors lighting ballasts and bulbs electrical switches and receptacles. Diagnoses and replaces emergency exit and emergency light fixtures, electrical hand dryers, and photoelectric controls.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and responds to hot and cold calls. Performs routine repairs and maintains building plumbing system (i.e. repairs and unclogs sinks and floor drains, faucets, urinal and closet flush valves, seals and O-rings.)
• Exhibits professionalism and develops working relationship with entire maintenance team with no bias, prejudice, or favoritism. Assists other trades as needed, adheres to all safety practices and procedures, and cleans and maintains work areas and equipment. Provides a high level of customer service and communicates to customers, coworkers and supervisors via written, electronic, and verbal methods and devices.

Preventative Maintenance and Repair
• Enters, fulfills and submits completed works orders in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains cleanliness of mechanical rooms and equipment. Performs various manual cleaning tasks including sweeping, dusting and mopping floors. Utilizes dust cloths, mops, pails, brooms and various cleaning agents to perform cleaning tasks. Regularly performs indoor and outdoor building inspections.
• Orders supplies and materials needed for repairs and maintenance. Troubleshoots and restores kitchen appliances and office equipment including coffee makers, refrigerators, ovens, paper shredders, window blinds, office furniture, locks, latches, and exercise equipment. Uses carpentry methods to perform building repairs and improvements. Builds shelves and hangs, repairs and replaces doors and openers. Performs other related tasks. Makes purchases for parts and supplies with supervisor’s approval.

Facilities Support
• Cleans and assists with upkeep with other facilities branches. Clears walks, stairs, parking lots and roadways of ice and snow. Utilizes shovels, snow blowers, tractors, salt spreaders, and trucks for snow removal. Applies calcium, salt, and sand to various areas to melt ice and provide safer conditions.
• Provides general support in other areas and assists with set-ups during special events. Assists the Police Department during evacuations and emergencies. Assists with maintenance and supply delivery at off-campus locations.

Minimum Education And Experience Required
• High School Diploma or GED;
• Three (3) years’ experience in general maintenance or closely related field. Experience with building automation control systems.

Licenses and Certifications
• Possession of or ability to obtain required Forklift Operator’s Certificate through the college within 45 days of employment. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s). Must be insurable to operate a vehicle as a condition of initial and continued employment.

Other Duties And Responsibilities
• Attends all required department meetings and training.
• Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works overtime, as required to meet workload demand. May perform additional duties, as assigned.

students from Columbus City Schools. Upward Bound works with
first-generation and income-eligible high school students to help
them graduate and develop the skills necessary for college
enrollment and completion. The Upward Bound PT Advisor will

Job Summary
