RESPONSIBILITIES
The Manager of Counselor Engagement is part of the Education and Training team and supports Common App’s outreach, education, and professional learning functions for the school counseling and college advising community. The Education and Training team is responsible for the development and execution of Common App resources and professional learning for counselors, recommenders, and advisors.
The Manager of Counselor Engagement is a member of the Student Success team, within the Constituent Engagement area. The Student Success team at Common App works to build and champion a college-going culture among students, particularly those who are underrepresented in higher education.
Reporting to the Director of Education and Training, the Manager of Counselor Engagement is responsible for helping to execute our college access initiatives and programs through resource management and workshop facilitation for the counseling community. This individual will maintain relationships with external partners, high schools, and college access organizations and collaborate with other Common App departments. Outreach includes but is not limited to state organizations, school districts, school counselors, teachers, community-based organizations, transfer advisors, independent educational consultants, and mission-aligned partners.
QUALIFICATIONS
This role requires:
• Candidates must live in the United States.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or a combination of years of education and experience with relevant responsibilities
• 3-5 years of experience working in a high school counseling office, college admissions office, or college access / other nonprofit organization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience supporting college access and success initiatives for first-generation, low-income, and other students traditionally underrepresented in higher education
• Knowledge and understanding of the issues and priorities facing students, counselors, and community partners as it relates to college access and affordability
• Desire to collaborate with external constituent groups and internal teams to develop strategies and solutions to address identified issues
• Strong project management skills with the ability to execute a program vision through team goals
• Engaging public speaking, listening, and presentation skills
• Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
• Ability to analyze data using spreadsheets
• Strong organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and the ability to successfully manage multiple priorities
• Must work effectively in a diverse, collaborative, team-oriented environment while also being a strong individual contributor
• Ability to travel monthly for in-person presentations
• Willingness to learn and grow
The ideal candidate will possess:
• Familiarity using Google suite of products (Documents, Spreadsheets, and Presentations)
• Ability to lead webinars using various meeting platforms (e.g. Webex, Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, RingCentral)
• Prior usage of Salesforce and Tableau
• Oral and written Spanish language proficiency
• Experience using instructional design software for the development of handouts, worksheets, and other resources
