General Function

The Director of Software Development is a member of the Information Technology Services (ITS) extended leadership team and reports to the Executive Director of Technical Management. The Software Development team focuses on design and development of software applications and custom integrations that solve problems for business units; these problems cannot usually be solved easily using commercially available software. The Director is responsible for the overall administration and management of the ITS’ Software Development team as well as providing leadership and professional development to a talented and committed full-time staff. The Director of Software Development will be expected to provide participatory leadership for ITS’ diverse, inclusive environment that supports its employees, college leadership, working closely with middle management in administration and the campus community.

The Director will facilitate the use of Agile, ITIL and DevOps frameworks to ensure ITS can quickly deliver new or improved software for the use of faculty, staff, and students. They will establish policies and procedures for their team that enable them to produce high-quality software products with the appropriate testing frameworks.

Characteristic Duties And Responsibilities
• Manages, mentors, and directs the staff (software developers) in the Software Development team.
• In conjunction with the ITS Project Management Office (PMO), manages and coordinates projects that deal with the design and coding of all CPCC web properties including www.cpcc.edu. In addition, provides assistance and documentation to the Release & Deployment team for the downstream tasks of testing, release, support, maintenance and documentation of these web properties.
• In conjunction with the ITS PMO, manages and coordinates projects that deal with the design, coding of various CPCC applications, software platforms and web systems, including the College’s learning/course management systems and the College’s Enterprise Resource Planning platform. In addition, provides assistance and documentation to the Release & Deployment team for the downstream tasks of testing, release, support and maintenance of these applications, platforms and systems.
• Collaborates with the Data Management team to design, develop and integrate data solutions, as appropriate.
• Reviews and approves code written by junior software developers.
• Creates standards for applications including style and dependencies
• Approves changes or additions to technology stack components.
• Assists in development and training of junior team members as needed.
• Assists Executive Director of Technical Management in formulation and implementation of strategies related to web and web-enabled systems that can enhance and deliver services to faculty, staff, and students.
• Assists Executive Director of Technical Management in promoting collaboration and interaction with other ITS teams to research and establish standards, policies, and procedures.
• Maintains professional knowledge of current trends and developments in the field and applies pertinent new knowledge to performance of other responsibilities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Characteristics
• Expert in Python, with knowledge of at least one Python web framework (Django or Flask preferred)
• Deep experience with ORM (Object Relational Mapper) libraries (e.g., SQLAlchemy or Django ORM)
• Expert with server-side templating languages such as Jinja 2, or Django templating
• Expert with front-end technologies, such as JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3
• Expert with web API usage and formats such as REST, GraphQL, SOAP, etc.
• Experience with web accessibility guidelines and standards
• Deep experience in implementing application security, user authentication, and authorization (experience with oAuth, SAML2, CAS, and/or Active Directory a plus)
• Deep experience in developing object models that represent and support business processes
• Very strong testing, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
• Highly skilled with Git code versioning platforms, preferably Github / Gitlab
• Experienced with Docker / Linux containers and continuous integration / continuous pipelines
• Skilled with object-oriented programming and agile software development methodologies

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
• Associate Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Computer Science or Information Technology or related field and four years of related experience.
• ITIL Foundation certification is required (or should be obtained within 9 months of appointment)

GENERAL FUNCTION AND JOB DUTIES

General Function

This position evaluates official college transcripts from other institutions for CPCC students. This position also performs clerical functions that support the Associate Dean for Admissions, Records, Registration, and Graduation and the Central Campus Registrar.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Reviews transfer transcripts (from other colleges and universities, domestic or international) to insure they are official in accordance with Central Piedmont Community College’s, Southern Associate of Colleges and Schools’, and Department of Education’s regulations.

2. Determines accreditation status of transfer institution.

3. Analyzes transcripts to insure courses are acceptable.

4. Analyzes course descriptions to convert transfer courses to CPCC course equivalents.

5. Ensure that transfer credit is quickly, accurately, and completely recorded in the student information system (Colleague) to support degree audit and advising.

6. Evaluates military service and non-traditional experiences for granting credit.

7. Trains new and continuing staff members on the process of transcript evaluation.

8. Meet with students or advisors who have questions or concerns about transcript evaluation.

9. Ensure proper security for CPCC’s student educational records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), state law, NC Community College System regulations, and college policies and procedures.

10. Maintain current knowledge and communication with the curriculum deans, internal program directors, division heads, college advisors, and other college personnel to stay up to date on CPCC’s course descriptions, pre-requisites, course number systems, and other advising or course information necessary to provide accurate external transcript assessment.

11. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Registrar and/or the Associate Dean.

Minimum Requirements

Requires knowledge of standard procedures in a technical field. Must have an Associate's degree with course work in math, computer, and secretarial training and one year experience preferably in a college setting working with students.

Assist in recruiting, testing and monitoring operations of the College and Career Readiness Department. Analyze student data per NCCS Basic skills benchmarks and federal requirements to prepare timely reports that allow for data informed management.

This candidate guide efforts to provide scholarship assistance for students to complete short-term workforce training programs. This team member will connect community members to educational opportunities that foster economic mobility.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Completes follow up interviews and surveys with all NextGen students (at least quarterly) and inputs data into NCWorks system.

2. Completes student file review to and ensures documentation of activities and compliance with program standards.

3. Provides information and guidance to new, prospective and undecided students to assist in the transition to college or Basic Skills programs.

4. Conducts surveys and other research; Collects student outcome data; gathers, compiles, and analyzes information; prepares weekly reports for coordinators, staff, and instructors.

5. Works with Coordinators, staff and faculty to maintain student outcome tracking, monitor MSG rate and credential completion; assists with completing progress testing

6. Monitors attendance and progress of classes through site visits and other methods.

Minimum Qualifications :

A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Counseling, Human Resources, Social Services, Adult Education or related.

Applicants must possess a current

driver’s license and the ability to provide their own transportation to meet with students in various college locations as necessary, to perform job responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications :

Experience working in higher education desired, with preference given to previous TRIO program pre-college or college experience.

Work experience in counseling or academic coaching desired.
