About the California State University System

The ? California State University ?is the largest system of four-year higher education in the country, with 23 campuses, 477,000 students and 56,000 faculty and staff. Created in 1960, the mission of the CSU is to provide high-quality, affordable education to meet the ever-changing needs of California. With its commitment to quality, opportunity and student success, the CSU is renowned for superb teaching, innovative research and for producing job-ready graduates. The Board of Trustees, most of whom are appointed by the governor and serve with faculty and student representatives, govern the system. The CSU Chancellor is the chief executive officer, reporting to the Board. The campus presidents serve as the campus-level chief executive officers. The Trustees, Chancellor and Presidents develop systemwide educational policy. The Presidents, in consultation with the respective Academic Senates and other campus stakeholder groups, render and implement local policy decisions.

The System has an annual budget of more than $7 billion. It is not only the largest four-year university system in the United State but also is one of the most diverse and affordable university systems in the nation. CSU is a leader in high-quality, accessible, student-focused higher education, and trains many of California’s leaders and policymakers: approximately 64% of Californians with master’s degrees in public administration studied at a CSU, as well as 32% of those with bachelor’s degrees. In addition, 49% of Californians with bachelor’s degrees in city, urban, community, and regional planning studied at a CSU. Nearly 40 percent of the CSU's undergraduate students transfer from California Community Colleges. Each year, the CSU awards more than 132,000 degrees. In fact, one in every 20 Americans holding a college degree is a graduate of the CSU and our alumni are 4 million strong. About Information Technology Services

ITS at the CSU Chancellor’s Office, led by the CIO, oversees an approximate budget of $100 million and has 185 skilled professionals working in seven functional areas, providing services to the Chancellor’s Office and the 23 campuses. The ITS budget includes funding for several large system wide contracts that enables the CSU to leverage its buying power. The ITS team is also the primary technology support organization for the Chancellor’s Office. The ITS staff work remotely and at the Chancellor’s Office in Long Beach, California.

The functional areas of the ITS Division are:
• Information Systems (Data, Applications, Integration)
• Technology Infrastructure Services
• Systemwide Infrastructure and Support Services
• Systemwide Shared Services and Project Management

The mission of ITS is to support strategies that accelerate student success, advance forward-thinking initiatives, and to enable collaboration and shared services across the system. Specifically, ITS:

Supports strategies to accelerate student success.

The ISAC advises the CSU CISO and campus constituents on standards, policies and practices related to the selection, funding, deployment, management, and assessment of information security in support of system-wide and campus-based information security programs. The CISO also participates in the following groups:
