About the Position

Associate Counselors have completed their graduate degrees in
counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work, and need
to gather hours of supervised clinical experience toward licensure.
Associates receive one hour of individual supervision and two hours
of group supervision each week, as well as monthly professional
development trainings. Position is three days a week and requires
Thursday, for a total of 24 hours per week.

This recruitment will be used to establish a pool of candidates for
current and future temporary positions. These are temporary,
part-time (0.60 time-base) positions through May 17, 2024, with the
possibility of reappointment. This appointment cannot exceed 2
years in the position.

Responsibilities

Associate Counselors, under the supervision of the Director of
Counseling and their clinical supervisor, provide intake
assessments, crisis intervention, and short-term individual and
couples counseling to students of the University. They work
collaboratively with counseling and medical staff to help students
maintain optimum mental and physical health. The Associate
Counselor may also provide group counseling and outreach
presentations to the campus community in partnership with licensed
clinical staff.

Required Qualifications

Thorough knowledge and understanding of professional counseling
theory and practice, and adherence to approved professional, legal
and ethical standards of the counseling profession.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have completed an accredited master's level program in
counseling, marriage and family therapy or social work.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge
• Experience in, or a strong desire to learn about, crisis
intervention, short-term therapy, couples therapy, group therapy,
and outreach and consultation.
• Experience or a strong desire to learn as a clinical
generalist. Common issue areas include interpersonal relationships,
depression, anxiety, sexual assault, autism spectrum disorders,
anger management, sexual disorders, eating disorders, domestic
violence, and substance abuse treatment.
• Proficient in using electronic health records.
• Strong demonstrated experience working with diverse
populations.
• Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of mental
health and medical providers in an integrated health center.
• Experience in a college or university setting.
• Proficient in interpersonal, verbal, and written
communication.
• Proficient in Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese.

University Extension (UE) organizes and offers educational programs
to matriculated and non-matriculated students of the University. It
is wholly self-supporting, functioning without general fund
support. UE develops and maintains self-support programs from
inception to marketing and finally to implementation. UE consists
of multiple sub-centers: The American Language Program; the Center
for International Education; Oakland Professional Development
Center; Concord Campus, Online Teaching and Learning.

The Student Support Coordinator assists with all aspects of student
services within Continuing Education (CE) including enrollment,
payment, withdrawal, and graduation. In addition, this role
responds to CE’s SalesForce cases and provides a high-touch service
to both our potential and current students. A strong emphasis is
placed on student services and advising through customer service
and professional communication while coaching students on what
courses to take and how to graduate/complete their program.

Responsibilities

Student Support:
• Perform student related functions in PeopleSoft, including:
build student program/plan stacks, as needed, review student fees
and refunds to ensure account calculates correctly, quick admit
students, review all registration audit reports and
troubleshoot/correct all problems, and process student
withdrawals.
• Maintain up to date information/training in PeopleSoft.
• Troubleshoot/correct all payment issues and alert supervisor as
necessary if situations escalate.
• Work closely with the Accounting Office and Enrollment for
troubleshooting and answering inquiries about student records.
• Act on behalf of students when dealing with Program
Coordinators, Finance Managers, and caseworkers for various grant
and scholarship programs (East Bay Works, WIA, Department of
Rehabilitation, Job Training Center, etc.): assist with processing
purchase orders, and ensure that registrations and payments are
processed in a timely manner.
• Contact students when various problems arise, and assist with
phone queries, as needed.
• Contact students with routine communication: course start
dates, course completion deadlines, course cancellation /
reschedule, etc.
• Monitor and respond to general CE mailbox.
• Communicate problems or trends to the supervisor to adjust
program offerings to meet student demands.

Student Advising:
• Respond to SalesForce cases for Continuing Education programs
(approx. 125/week) with personal communication to potential
students.
• Communicate to students within our enrollment pipelines (help
to manage leads to follow-up with people).
• Assist with analyzing and tracking student progress, advising
students as needed to ensure successful completion of
programs.
• Maintain up to date information/training in SalesForce:

• Review, approve, and create certificates to be awarded to
students: utilize database to track certificate completions.

Alumni Support:
• Work with the marketing department and program coordinators to
create and maintain select Social Media groups for alumni.
• Liaison with AACE and campus Alumni Association to support our
graduates.
• Maintain purposeful communication with program alumni.
• Communicate with alumni via surveys and job postings.
• Maintain up-to-date records of alumni contact and employment
information.
• Report to interested parties on employment/success rate of CE
program graduates.
• Assist with the development of reports and tracking of data to
expand alumni support services.

Student Outreach and Recruitment:
• Attend outreach/recruitment events (ex. Job Fairs, Career
Fairs, College Fairs, etc.) and represent CE programs.
• Assist with marketing of UE programs in local unemployment
offices, one-stop career centers, and military installations.

Organizational Citizenship:
• Maintain familiarity with general CE policies, procedures, and
programs, as well as general knowledge of Cal State East Bay
policies, procedures, programs, and organization.
• Promote and instill a strong culture of teamwork by working
together safely, effectively, and respectfully with all
associates.
• Ensure continuity of services during periods of staffing

About the Position

Working under the supervision of the Director of Counseling Services, Counselor Faculty provide clinical services to registered students of the University. The student population at Cal State East Bay is diverse, presenting with a wide range of psychosocial, developmental, interpersonal, and relational concerns. The Counselor Faculty assumes independent responsibility for their cases, including identification of major problems, determining services needed, selecting and using appropriate counseling strategies, assessing results, and, where appropriate, referring to additional services.

This recruitment will be used to establish a pool of candidates for current and future temporary positions. These are temporary, part-time (0.80 time-base) positions through May 17, 2024, with the possibility of reappointment.

PLEASE NOTE: This is an academic year position. THE DEPARTMENT: Since Fall 2020, the Liberal Studies Program
has been housed in the Department of Ethnic Studies. The Liberal
Studies Program serves approximately 200 majors and offers a B.A.
degree that consists of core courses and three concentration
options: Multiple Subject Preparation for Teaching, Early Childhood
Education, and Liberal Arts. About half of the majors are in the
Teacher Preparation options. A new Ethnic Studies Education option

The Department of Ethnic Studies provides an academically rigorous
program that substantively contributes to the University's public
commitment to provide a multicultural learning experience. Our
comparative and interdisciplinary program covers six core areas:
American Indian Studies; Asian American Studies; Black Studies;
Chicanx and Latinx Studies; Comparative Ethnic Studies (Available
online only); and Genders and Sexualities in Communities of Color.
In our courses, we teach students to analyze social relations of
race, class, gender, and sexuality; develop nuanced understandings
of social justice; and act as socially responsible global citizens.
The Department of Ethnic Studies has eight full-time faculty
members and four full-time lecturers. The Department of Ethnic

decolonial, and social justice-oriented course content and

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The faculty member in this position
will serve in the Liberal Studies program and will teach and
develop courses in both Liberal Studies and Ethnic Studies. A
successful candidate would be prepared to teach large courses
through an intersectional lens and CSU-required Ethnic Studies
courses (Area F). Candidates should have a firm grounding in
praxis-centered, interdisciplinary and intersectional Ethnic
Studies pedagogies that are humanizing, decolonial, and culturally
sustaining. We seek candidates who would be able to teach and
develop courses for the Liberal Studies program, develop
education-themed and other courses for the Department of Ethnic
Studies, and have a grounding in teacher preparation issues for
early childhood and/or elementary education. Desirable research
foci include (but are not limited to) Indigenous, abolitionist,
feminist, queer, bilingual and other critical approaches to
educational theory, policy and/or practice. The faculty member may
be assigned administrative time for assistance in coordinating the
Liberal Studies program. Please note that teaching assignments at
California State University, East Bay include courses at the
Hayward, Concord, and Online campuses. In addition to teaching, all
faculty are required to advise and mentor students, assist the
department with administrative and committee work, and assume
campus-wide committee responsibilities.

RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Salary is dependent
upon educational preparation and experience. Subject to budgetary
authorization.

The salary schedule information for the Instructional Faculty -
Academic Year Classification is available based on the following
ranges:

Range 2 ) - $4,530 – $6,056

Instructional Faculty AY (
Range 3 ) - $5,405 – $11,994

Instructional Faculty AY (
Range 4 ) - $6,190 – $13,172

Instructional Faculty AY (
Range 5 ) - $7,794 – $13,797

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of
the appropriate range, commensurate with education and
experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- Demonstrated commitment to Ethnic Studies, anticolonial and
antiracist pedagogical strategies and mentoring undergraduate
students.

-Specialization in Latina/x/o Education, Asian American &
Pacific Islanders in Education, Black/African American Education,
American Indian/Indigenous Education, LGBTQ Education, Disability
Studies in Education, and/or Social Justice Education

- Experience in preschool and/or TK-8 classroom settings.

- Actively engaged in research and demonstrated record of success
(or potential for success) in research or creative activities with
diverse populations.

- Ph.D. or Ed.D. (or ABD with doctorate degree awarded by August
2023) in Ethnic Studies, Education, Sociology, Psychology, History
or related interdisciplinary field.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Familiarity with Commission on Teacher Credentialing guidelines
(Elementary Subject Matter, Early Childhood Education
Matrix).

- Research/training in genders and sexualities, women of color
feminist approaches to education.

- Experience as an instructor or as a teaching assistant at the
college level.
