Provides clerical assistance in the distribution of a range of group and individual standardized testing services, both automated and manual, administered through a centralized testing center.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in the support functions at a college/location testing center including any of the following: overseeing/proctoring, scoring, recording and processing test results. Works at the front desk/reception area answering telephones and providing information related to the department services and referring complex questions to supervisor. Assists with monitoring testing in a college testing center or in some instances at off-site locations (e.g. area high schools, etc.); grades exams using electronic scanning equipment and maintains related records. Assists in proctoring a variety of testing activities including entrance assessment testing, national and state exams such as TSI, DANTES, TABE, GED, SAT, TOEFL, and CLEP as directed. Assists with scanning testing documents into the imaging system as directed. May provide computer interactive testing including routine guidelines in various computer applications. Maintains a file of available tests, student test results, and statistical data. Enters large amounts of data into related databases and/or systems. Performs computer analysis of test results to assist instructors in determining student comprehension of test instrument and provides related results. May be required to perform a variety of general clerical functions such as word processing, copying, filing, room scheduling, etc. Good written and oral communication skills for the purpose of conveying information to individuals while working in a customer service oriented environment. Must complete required DCCCD Professional Development training hours per academic year. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse internal/external stakeholders and constituents within the DCCCD community network. Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Associate Dean provides vision and leadership in establishing and monitoring the scope and direction of counseling, ensuring its operation is consistent with national standards of practice. As the Associate Dean of Counseling Services, this position is primarily responsible for providing confidential counseling/psychological services to students as a member of the Counseling & Psychological Services team. This position reports directly to the Dean of Student Care Network and Basic Needs. The Associate Dean of Counseling Services creates and implements the Counseling Services policies and procedures. The Associate Dean oversees the Counseling Services team that includes the training counselor, counselor of clinical services, generalist counselors and counselor of community engagement and partnerships. The Associate Dean coordinates the operations and policies that affect the operation of the center. This interconnected position collaborates and plans with the Associate Deans of Health Services and Promotions, Basic Needs and Community Connections, and all of Dallas College.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of the purpose of community colleges and the vision of Dallas College
• Experience leading or managing major change initiatives
• Ability to identify and address opportunities and challenges that arise as a result of Dallas College’s current transition
• Experience working with student support programs (counseling, threat assessment, health & wellness programs, etc.)
• Experience in strategic planning, assessment of program(s) effectiveness, and development of guidelines to enhance student success units within the institution and with accrediting bodies
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, complex ideas, and information to a variety of stakeholders/constituents within the Dallas College community and health care, social service network related to student basic mental health, physical, spiritual and social needs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• The Associate Dean is responsible for the direct oversight and management of the Counseling Center to include personnel management, assessment, budget management, policy formation, logistics, and strategic planning.

• Ensures staff and programs work collaboratively with other Dallas College areas, faculty and staff.
• Provide individual and group counseling services to students; including clinical services (intake; individual; couples; group; and emergency/crisis counseling; and individual assessment); outreach and consultation services, training (internship and practicum students).
• Promote a safe environment for students to discuss their feelings and then, ultimately, help them develop strategies to deal with the events in their life.
• Responsible for daily operations of Counseling Services.
• Supervise and coordinate graduate interns and student workers.
• Design and implement outreach and intervention programs as needed.
• Supervise the provision of health care services for students.
• Serve as point of contact for the provision of interventions and services for students determined to be “at risk”.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop programmatic goals in order to provide comprehensive counseling opportunities to students.
• Consults with faculty, students, and staff concerning student needs and students of concerns.
• Provides individual, couples, group, and crisis counseling relative to personal and social problems.
• Maintains current knowledge of theory, practice and ethics within the counseling profession through professional development opportunities.
• Collect and evaluate student requests for medical and mental health withdrawals.
• Plan, develop, implement, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate policies.
• Develop and present workshops designed to meet student and staff needs on a variety of subjects, as needed.
• Support both the College’s retention team and student response team.
• Maintain and ensure the security of confidential counseling records within the counseling center.
