Position Responsibilities

Teaching will be the primary responsibility of this position. We are looking to build on existing strengths in the department and meet increasing student interest in the areas of composition, creative writing, and fiction. The successful candidate will demonstrate a keen understanding of the place of fiction and creative writing in the broader liberal arts tradition, and will be committed to developing students’ understanding, abilities, and love for the written word. Additional responsibilities will include service to the department and university, mentoring and advising students, helping promote the department on campus, and engaging in the scholarly life of the department. Applicants should be willing to participate in the academic community of Eastern University and the faculty of friends within the College of Arts and Humanities. In addition, as a professor at a Christian liberal arts university, the successful applicant should be willing to support the integrated intellectual, moral, aesthetic, and spiritual formation of students.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess an MFA or earned doctorate in Creative Writing (or evidence of likely completion thereof prior to August 2023), evidence of outstanding teaching, and a record of publication appropriate to their experience in the field. Applicants should possess a desire to write and publish, as well as a passion for the vision of liberal arts education outlined in the position responsibilities.
