The Rhode Island Center for Early Learning Professionals is funded by the Rhode Island Department of Human Services and Rhode Island Department of Education to advance the quality of Rhode Island’s early childhood programs including public school, Head Start, center-based child care, and family child care early learning programs. The Bilingual TTA Associate I will provide support to child care programs and providers across the state of Rhode Island, with particular focus on programs serving infants and toddlers (birth – 8 years). The Bilingual TTA Associate I will provide expertise to the development of pertinent products such as trainings, quality improvement plans, self-assessments, as well as provide 1:1 technical assistance and support communities of practice.

The person in this position must be able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends as well as travel locally to visit early learning centers and family childcare homes.

The Bilingual TTA Associate I provides professional development training and technical assistance; typically assigned to multiple, diverse, complex, and high-impact projects.

_ You will:_
• Provide classroom coaching, program consultation and PD to center-based and family child care homes to build knowledge and capacity of organizations and staff
• Use research skills to identify foundational research related to topics and appropriate citations
• Apply knowledge on early childhood development, and health equity fields to research and PD development assignments
• Participate in the development of training materials and resources specific to early childhood development
• Expand contacts and strengthen client relations
• Apply understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles across assignments
• Coordinate administrative and logistical tasks

Job Description

English for Latin America (ELA) is an Interactive Audio Instruction (IAI) program designed to teach English to young people and support teachers in providing effective instruction. ELA consists of 100 audio programs that use dramas, song, games, and more to help students meet the basic level of English according to internationally recognized standards. Taking into account the need for English proficiency to succeed in life and the workforce today, ELA is offered throughout Latin America and provides youth with a foundational start in the English language. We encourage interested applicants to check out the various social media links in order to become familiar with ELA and the ways it is shared.

ELA has been implemented in schools throughout the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Colombia. The ELA intern will become familiar with all aspects of the ELA programs as he or she assists with informing Ministries or school systems throughout Latin America about ELA and helps with the follow-up when interest is demonstrated. The intern will gain real-world exposure to program production, proposal-writing, communicating with key stakeholders such as Ministries of Education and donors, and the contracting process.

The English for Latin America program has an opening for an Intern. The unpaid internship will take place at the Washington, DC office, can begin at any point during the academic year. The candidate must be enrolled in an academic program and receive credit for the internship. The length and schedule will be determined by the program in which the student is enrolled. The primary tasks will include:

1. Business Development - The Intern will assist with new business development including:

a. Assistance with new business opportunities currently being pursued in Latin America and the Caribbean involving correspondence with current partners and planning for upcoming events.

b. Research on potential new business opportunities in Latin America and the Caribbean. The intern will specifically research the private sector’s involvement in social initiatives in the region. The Intern will maintain a database that contains information about Ministries of Education, private sector companies, and international donors interested in the ELA programs.

c. Research, indentification and support of the use of ELA among Latino populations in the United States.

d. Social media outreach

e. Proposal development in response to requests received.

2. Translation - The Intern will assist with translating documents as needed by the English for Latin America programs or other releveant projects. This may include a variety of program-related documentation such as presentations, brochures, concept papers, proposals, or spoken word.

3. Materials Development – The intern will assist with materials development regarding the interactive audio instruction programs including program revision, updating and audio scriptwriting. Materials may include both contributions to the interactive audio instruction programs as well as business development materials such as social media, print or video products.

The supervisor will work with the intern to identify areas of interest related to business development and/or materials development in order to complement the student’s field of study and professional development interests.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - All staff are expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. Additional Information

The internship is unpaid but can be used to fulfill course requirements.
