The job of Educational Technology Specialist is done for the purposes of providing advice regarding strategic direction for the use of technology in education, including the use of technology in instruction, distributed learning, communications; providing leadership, development, and management of programs for facilitating faculty development initiatives; fiscal management, and human resources management of Academic Technology. They also work in researching advances in education and instructional technologies and facilitating implementation of cutting edge technologies; recommending various products and goals in the strategic planning processes; manages operations of Academic Technology;

The Educational Technology Specialist uses computers, software, networks, servers, and other technology to manage and store data, create new systems and applications, or troubleshoot software errors... They help to communicate the visual identity and branding of the district through graphic design as directed by the Website designer.

In addition this professional, establishes, maintains and repairs computers and digital networks. They may also work with phones, fax machines and copiers.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• Support instructional design for faculty teaching on-campus and distance learning courses including development of instructional strategies, course materials, assessment techniques, appropriate integration of instructional technologies and best practices.
• Advises and supports school Principals for the purpose of strategic planning for the development and use of technology education.
• Advises Superintendent regarding faculty and staff for the purpose of developing initiatives and implementation of emergent technologies.
• responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of IT systems
• Responsible for network analysis, system administration, security and information assurance, IT audits, database administration, and web administration.
• Review diagnostics and assess the functionality and efficiency of systems
• Implement security measures
• Collaborate with faculty and staff on the system setup and processes.
• Troubleshoot evaluations, schedules, supporting documents, and configuration issues and collaborate with other team members to resolve issues.
• Monitor security certificates and company compliance of requirements
• Offer technical support to company staff and troubleshoot computer problems
• Install and update company software and hardware as needed
• Anticipate and report the cost of replacing or updating computer items
• Assist with data analytics and development of dashboards for presentation of data to stakeholders in a meaningful/useful way.
• Evaluates and makes recommendations to Superintendent, Business Manager, and the School Principals for the purpose of hardware, software, and network components of the instructional program to ensure the appropriate resources are available for program implementation.
• Supports the teaching and learning process for the purpose of delivering a variety of programs to meet the needs of a complex and highly technological society and an increasingly non-traditional student body.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: A bachelor's degree is the minimum requirement, Master's degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum three (3) years supervisory experience
• Be able to complete trainings outside the program when required (may need to travel to other locations).
• A successful candidate must possess strong organizational and analytical skills, be able to prioritize tasks and delegate when needed, and effectively communicate with stakeholders. They should also be adept at problem-solving, decision-making, and budget management.
• Have experience working in a multicultural/rural; Navajo or Native American Preferred.

• Auditing a RMUSD current technological landscape to identify opportunities and ensure that new technology won't interfere with existing systems.
• Communicating with school representatives about the benefits of specific technologies over others when identifying which applications to install into a classroom setting.
• Integrating devices, platforms, online tools, and other technologies into academic settings.
• Troubleshooting device and program issues that technologies might be experiencing.
• Collaborating with school representatives and IT team members.
• Updating platforms and devices to continually meet changing student and educator needs.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

The Educator Extern spends 6-8 weeks in the Nelnet Business Solution (NBS) organization, specifically within the Information Technology (IT) Department. What you’ll do:
• July through September: Ed-Tech fellows will assist the Provisioning and Data Services team as they provide support for customers partnering with Curriculum Associates for the 2023-2024 school year. This team ensures all users are successfully onboarded into our i-Ready platform
• The Provisioning and Data Services (PDS) team includes several groups. A fellow’s daily tasks will depend on which group the fellow is assigned to for our back-to-school season, so all fellows will not have the same responsibilities. Below are examples of tasks to be performed by fellows (dependent on the PDS group):
• Work with auto-provisioning technology and large datasets
• Troubleshoot customer and technical issues using a multitude of resources
• Work directly with educators to gather user data that will be onboarded into i-Ready
• Work with datasets in Excel to assemble student and staff rosters and then input that data into i-Ready
• Assist with account setup
• Work on district-specific projects
• For the final three months: You’ll be placed in a compelling rotation, working closely with department leaders to help improve processes and reach quarterly goals

General Description

The Educational Technology Specialist will assist the faculty in integrating appropriate and innovative technologies to support, enhance, and extend learning in the learning management system. The Educational Technology Specialist reports to the Director of Online Education and is a full-time exempt employee.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• Provide learning management system guidance, expertise and support for faculty and students.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to design, develop, and deliver learning management system initiatives that align with the mission of the school and the needs of the classroom.
• Support the learning management system through daily advising, collaborating, and training of faculty and staff.
• Assist the Online and School Directors in administering and fully utilizing the school’s learning management system and other digital content management systems.
• Provide support for educational technology devices, systems, data integrations and content.
• Evaluate the effectiveness and sustainability of current and future uses of the learning management system.
• In partnership with the Online and School Directors, research and propose new ways to enhance teaching and learning, promote innovation, and foster purposeful, meaningful, and creative integration of technology.
• Function as a liaison with Online and School Directors and Academic Affairs Coordinators to ensure seamless coordination of technology tools supporting curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

Position responsibilities... include:

Teaching (60%). The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of five to six courses per year in an online format. These courses will include graduate-level courses in learning technologies, our undergraduate course on using learning technologies in K-12 classrooms (required by all teacher preparation students) and may also include courses in SISLT’s Bachelor of Educational Studies program and doctoral committee service. The candidate will advise students in the master’s of learning technology and design.

LT Program Work (20%) The successful candidate will work closely with the Program Coordinator for the Masters in Learning Design and Technology to coordinate the Online the Online Educator emphasis area of the masters, the graduate certificate in Online Education, and the SISLT emphasis area of the Bachelor of Educational studies. These coordination responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to, overseeing student admissions in these programs, monitoring program enrollment in these areas, implementing recruitment activities for these programs, working with the teacher education program in the college to maintain currency and appropriateness of the required technology integration course in the teacher education program, and liaising with other program coordinators in SISLT and the College of Education.

Service (20%). Professional, department, college, and university service is expected of this position. Service roles will ideally support teaching and program coordination roles.
