eSafety is the world’s first government agency solely dedicated to tackling online abuse and keeping its citizens safer online.

eSafety is looking for a skilled mixed methods researcher with a proven track record of working on a range of research projects, engaging with diverse stakeholders and producing high quality research publications. This role supports the development and implementation of eSafety’s research activities, including conducting literature reviews, undertaking fieldwork, and contributing to the analysis, and interpretation of data. You will also assist in preparing high-quality research reports, briefings and presentations and contribute to the development of peer-reviewed journal articles.

You will work alongside an established and expert mixed-methods research team working on projects that inform strategy, policy and programs to address issues such as cyberbullying, parenting in the digital age, and image-based abuse. Our key audiences include children and young people, parents and communities at increased risk of experiencing online harms, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, LGBTQI people, people with disability and culturally and linguistically diverse people.

Our ideal candidate will be a skilled and passionate mixed methods researcher dedicated to eSafety’s mission of keeping all Australians safer online. This role supports the execution of eSafety’s research activities, including planning and coordination, and contributing to research design, analysis and interpretation of data. You will also assist in preparing ethics applications, writing high-quality research publications, conducting literature reviews, and commissioning research via Commonwealth procurement processes.

You will be a flexible, independent, curious, and exceptionally well-organised individual who is comfortable with problem-solving and multi-tasking. You will have well developed teamwork skills, including the ability to contribute positively within a small, geographically dispersed team.

This is an opportunity to lead eSafety's Strategy and Policy Section. The Strategy and Policy section promotes online safety by working to anticipate and address challenges to the regulation of online harms, and by influencing strategic and regulatory policy directions.

We are seeking an experienced policy officer with experience in leading teams to deliver strategic outcomes under tight timeframes and sound judgement.

Our ideal candidate will have strong policy skills, with experience in online safety or related areas. You will be able to grapple with and understand complex technical scenarios and think on your feet.

As the Strategy and Policy Manager, you will be expected to:
• Manage, support and provide guidance to your team, working to anticipate and address challenges to the regulation of online harms.
• Provide clear advice to senior management and the Commissioner in relation to strategic and regulatory policy directions.
• Develop new relationships, including working across different levels of government to drive results.
• Represent eSafety’s position in forums with industry, government and other stakeholders in an informed, strategic and persuasive manner to build relationships while managing expectations and sensitivities.
• Manage a range of competing priorities and drive long term projects.
• Produce high quality briefs, analysis and correspondence, including in respect of complex and technical issues.
• Manage a dispersed team and build team capacity through coaching and mentoring staff, providing performance feedback and encouraging career development. This will be underpinned by excellent people skills and a demonstrated commitment to building and maintaining a thriving work culture.
