Job Summary: The Fab Operator - Utility role will assist the Welder with cleaning of welds, removal of sharp edges from finished products, obtaining materials needed to complete jobs, fitting, straightening, and cleaning designated areas. Final product inspection to ensure high quality is achieved before material is packaged.
Job Responsibilities:
• Operate various equipment (i.e. mills, punch presses, deburring wheels, benders, saws, specialty machines, turning centers, milling centers, and hand tools.
• Inspect equipment daily to ensure proper safety devices are in place (i.e. guarding) and notify supervisor or foreperson of any safety concerns
• Perform basic set-up on equipment
• Read and interpret various gauging equipment, ranging from digital calipers, micrometers, protractors, and custom gauges
• Visually inspect work piece before and after machining for defects
• Maintain all records on job assignments in a correct and timely manner, on paper as well as in the computer
• Maintain Q.C. checks on the operation in process
• Ensure that all scrap and waste material is disposed of properly
• Dispose of all waste/scrap materials in proper containers
Shifts Available and Hours: Monday - Friday 6:00AM-2:30PM

Primary Trade Skills Required
An AF is responsible for having a proficient working knowledge of most, if not all, of the following trade skills to succeed at MAD FAB:
• Sculpture: The ability to create a 3D form in a variety of materials using an assortment of hand and power tools, common materials include: foam, clay, and epoxy, among others.
• Mold-making: Creating a negative from different materials that is used to create positives. Common mold styles we use at MAD FAB include: Block molds, hard FRP molds, and multipart silicone molds with reinforcement jackets, among others.
• Casting Urethane: The knowledge and ability to measure and cast 2 part urethane plastics. The ability to research products and make critical decisions about what products should be used for specific applications.
• Composites / Fiberglass Laminating: The ability to lay up fiberglass using an assortment of different techniques, tools and resins.
• Carpentry / Millwork: The ability to create 3D forms from wood products using a variety of hand and power tools.
• Bodywork / Fairing / Sanding: The ability to see and feel the flatness, flushness or texture of a form and manipulate it to a different form using filler and other techniques to fair.
• Metalwork / Welding: The ability to use welding equipment to bond metals. The skill to make good joints. The ability to use an assortment of hand and power tools for creating
3D forms from metals.

Compensation (shift differential) for abnormal work hours is further explained in the employee handbook. AFs at MAD FAB will be critiqued on the quality of their work and methods with which they produce it. AFs may be terminated for performance and quality issues.

This technician will work with the engineering team to manage the work in the 300mm NYCREATES Albany facilities, which is a collaborative work environment with IBM engineers and partners in a complex multi-party R&D operational environment, requiring close collaboration with NYCREATES. This technician will spend approximately 75% of their time in the cleanroom environment supporting operations.
This position is for a night shift alternate work schedule: 12 hours day, 3 days working/4 days off; 4 days working/3 days off. Individuals must be willing to work any night shift and cross over with the day shift. The Albany facilities runs 24x7, and IBM must provide support for all shifts.
Strong communication and negotiation skills are required for this role. The successful technician will be excited to meet new challenges and exhibit a high-level of interest in understanding and solving complex technical problems.
Responsibilities include:
• Supporting activities required to meet Fab throughput, program deliverables, Fab yields, and overall fab quality and continuous improvement metrics
• Communicate with multiple groups daily
• Work and communicate with various teams, respecting the rules of engagement of the different partner relationships
• Involved in training activities to build a proactive, engaging team
• Take engineering advisement to establish priorities between activities and resources in order to meet Fab and program goals and act on those priorities
• Provide suggestions for longer term solutions to Fab operations challenges, by recommending changes to protocols and procedures
• Collaborate with tool owners, facilities and equipment engineering teams to identify areas to improve tool performance, and actively support improvement plans
• Data analysis using web-based reports and excel to track/report production efficiency/quality and recommend actions to drive improvements

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
• Associate degree
• Experience with basic manufacturing and production concepts
• Hands-on experience with troubleshooting technical issues
