The ideal candidate is a quick learner and conceptual thinker.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the editorial, photo, video and social teams to determine the best approach to storytelling on all Forbes platforms including the website, social media accounts, newsletters and print.
• The ideal candidate has an aptitude for illustration and photo collage with the ability to create art independently for daily feature stories.
• Concept and art direct illustrations and animations with outside illustrators.
• Proactively contribute creative ideas during brainstorms with photo and design team.
• Design data visualizations based on reporting and research.
• Design feature stories within our custom CMS.
• Creative approaches to design for social formats.
• Knowledge of what works best to promote your stories on social media platforms.
• Ensure a consistent visual style across all platforms that aligns with Forbes’ Brand Guidelines.
Requirements:
• BA/BFA in Design with 2+ years of digital design experience, preferably at a media or editorial publishing company.
• Process rooted in strong conceptual thinking with a sophisticated sense of digital design, composition and typography.
• Fluent in the full Adobe Creative Suite, Figma and Sketch. Knowledge of Adobe After Effects is preferred.
• Have a passion for journalism and storytelling.
• Have a solid understanding of user experience.
• Excellent organization skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced breaking news environment under tight deadlines.
• Strong communication skills. Designers need to be able to clearly and concisely express themselves and explain their ideas.
• You enjoy staying current on design trends and industry technology, sharing findings with the department to facilitate new ways of thinking, working and problem solving.
• A portfolio that demonstrates an eye for storytelling, excellent taste, a passion for design and a keen sense of what will perform well on different digital platforms.
