A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DSP) / CAREGIVER
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver, you begin each shift ready to help adults with developmental disabilities live their best lives as independently as possible. You have made it your mission to ensure the comfort and safety of each client. In our residential group home, you assist our residents with activities of daily living such as administering medication, cooking meals, performing personal hygiene, and transportation to medical appointments.
You also assist in the implementation of individual behavioral plans. Using effective teaching and mentoring techniques, you teach them new skills and help them achieve goals. Based on each individual's preferences and behavioral plans, you encourage their interests and drive them to community outings and recreational activities. You are happy to help them find greater access to the community. You are conscientious about reporting any concerns about their health and safety and keeping documentation accurate and up-to-date.
Some aspects of this job are not easily accomplished but at the end of each shift, knowing your clients are happy makes you feel great about the work you do!
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record
• Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks and a drug screen
• Clear tuberculosis (TB) screening
• Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/first aid, medication administration, and positive behavioral support training
• Basic computer skills
Experience working with individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities is preferred, but not required. As long as you are compassionate, have strong communication and interpersonal skills, are able to remain calm and professional in challenging situations, and want to make a difference, you may be perfect for this part-time opportunity!

We operate 24-hour residential group homes which means our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) / Caregivers have many shift options including mornings, afternoons, evenings, overnights, and weekends.

Specifically, this individual will lead two projects funded by California’’s Strategic Growth Council: the Regional Climate Communities grant and the Transformative Climate Communities Planning grant. The individual will work closely with several other nonprofits and government entities to evaluate and plan for multiple categories of climate investments including but not limited to: solar and battery storage installations; tree planting; school and park greening; bike, ped and complete streets; and workforce development opportunities. The foundation for the work will be educating and engaging the local community to receive feedback and ultimately design climate investment programs.
The Opportunity…
The Program Manager will work with GLA’s Deputy DIrector and Director of Community Engagement & Partnerships to:
• Develop partnership agreement and grant roadmap between several nonprofit partners to officially launch the program.
• Hold regular Partner convenings to provide updates on the progress of grant activities and to share learnings and best practices and draft meeting summaries.
• With partners, develop a Community Engagement Plan that includes strategies to drive attendance and participation from vulnerable populations, such as accessible and culturally appropriate community events, online surveys, door knocking, active educational opportunities such as nature walks, interactive activities, social media engagement strategies, and more.
• With partners, implement a Community Engagement Plan that listens to the community's needs and priorities, educates residents on climate change and related funding and rebate programs, and generates feedback that directly informs project selection and conceptual design.
• With partners, draft a Community Feedback Report reviewing successes, challenges, and overall results from community engagement, including priority projects.
• With partners, analyze priority climate investment projects, including literature review, GIS mapping activities, needs assessment analysis, and other quantitative and qualitative analyses, culminating in Project Implementation Roadmap.
• With partners, evaluate existing local industries, employment opportunities, and workforce development opportunities, ultimately culminating in a Workforce Development and Economic Opportunities Plan.
• Submit a monthly Progress Report to the Grant Agreement Manager, summarizing progress made on all Agreement activities as specified in the scope of work for the preceding month, including accomplishments, problems, milestones, products, schedule, fiscal status, and an assessment of the ability to complete the Agreement within the current budget and any anticipated cost overruns.
