Requirements

Director of Neighborhood Life, Office of Neighborhood Life, Office of Government Relations and Community Engagement - Georgetown University

As part of Georgetown's Office of Government Relations and Community Engagement, the Office of Neighborhood Life supports students and neighbors living in the communities surrounding Georgetown University. The office educates students about university policies, local ordinances, and how to be a good neighbor; builds and strengthens neighborhood relations by facilitating communication and dialogue; responds to concerns and issues as they arise; and promotes the quality of life for everyone living in our shared community.

Job Overview

The Director of Neighborhood Life is responsible for ensuring strong and positive relationships between the university, neighbors, and Georgetown students living off campus in the neighborhoods surrounding campus. This person - directly, through her or his staff, and in partnership with the Georgetown Community Partnership (https://communityengagement.georgetown.edu/gcp/) - will educate and support students living off campus to help them be good neighbors.

Responsibilities include:
• implementing a robust student education, support, and accountability program,
• ensuring a prompt response to off campus concerns of neighbors and students in accordance with the University's 100% Response Policy (to Help Line calls),
• developing initiatives to build relationships and goodwill with and between neighbors and students living off campus,
• and being an active member of the Georgetown Community Partnership.

While directly responsible for dealing with neighbors, sensitivities and problems will inevitably arise. As such, the Director will be empowered and accountable to engage other university offices to address issues of concern.

Additional responsibilities include helping to manage overall university-wide Campus Plan compliance including but not limited to tracking and reporting data related to off campus student noise and trash problems, off campus student addresses of all university students including undergraduates and graduate students, and compliance of off campus student properties with DC government licensing and inspection requirements.

Work Interactions

As a member of the GRACE team, the Director will work closely with others members of the team and especially with the Associate Vice President for Local Government Affairs and Community Engagement on issues that require DC government action and support. In addition, because of the cross-cutting and interdepartmental nature of the incidents falling under the position's purview, as needed the Director will also work closely with the offices of Student Affairs, Student Conduct, Residential Living, Communications, University Counsel, Public Safety/Georgetown University Police Department, Registrar, Assessment and Decision Support, University Information Services, Athletics, and Facilities Management.

The Director will work closely with neighbors, including members of ANC 2E, ANC 3D, and the Georgetown Community Partnership, to understand and address their concerns. The Director will work with student liaisons and representatives of various student groups to act as a conduit between the university, neighbors, and students living off campus.

The Director, in partnership with the ONL Assistant Director, will manage the Student Neighborhood Assistance Program (SNAP). Outside of normal business hours, SNAP responds to neighbor and student off campus concerns and, where appropriate, supports the referral of cases to Student Conduct for adjudication.

Qualifications

Successful applicants will, at a minimum, have:
• B.A. with an M.A. preferred
• 3-5 years of practical and related experience in student affairs and/or community relations or engagement
• Basic tech and data analytic skills, including comfort with Excel and databases

Work Mode: On Campus. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Our community is a tight knit group of remarkable individuals interested in intellectual inquiry... and making a difference in the world.

Requirements

Site Manager, Jumpstart Program - Center for Social Justice - Georgetown University

As a part of the country's oldest Catholic and Jesuit university, the Center for Social Justice (CSJ) animates the University's Jesuit values and mission through its work in research, teaching, and service. A component of the work includes that of CSJ's signature, staff-led, mission-based programs, including those that use the pedagogies of community-centered, social justice immersion and experiential learning, and the direct service work of CSJ's EngageDC programs, of which Jumpstart is a member.

Jumpstart is an EngageDC program at CSJ that provides early childhood language and literacy skills for pre-kindergarten students in Washington, DC. This grant-funded program applies the research-based curriculum from Jumpstart National Network and coordinates closely with Jumpstart DC and other affiliate programs in the DC area. The Georgetown program started at the Center for Child and Human Development in the late 2000s, and transitioned to CSJ in 2017.

Job Overview

The Site Manager of the Jumpstart Program is responsible for on-site coordination and preparation of program sites, overseeing 45 Georgetown student tutors and team leaders; and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Georgetown Jumpstart program in order to ensure that Jumpstart Quality Standards and guidelines are achieved and that the program is meeting grant requirements.

They recruit, train, and manage college volunteers and Federal Work-Study students serving as part-time AmeriCorps members to serve in the program; and encourage students to connect their service with what they are learning in the classroom by facilitating weekly reflection and dialogue.

They also participate in CSJ activities, including staff meetings, committees and cross-program collaborations; and have weekly, quarterly, and annual responsibilities reporting to the Jumpstart National Network.

Work Interactions

Due to contractual requirements from the program's grant funding and to meet programming quality for Georgetown undergraduates and community youth, activities occur four to six days a week, often in the evening hours, during the academic year and summer terms.

Reporting to the CSJ Assistant Director for Educational Equity, the Site Manager coordinates The Jumpstart Program, one of six professionally-staffed signature programs (EngageDC) of the Center for Social Justice; and provide leadership and management to the program site implementation and student staff support and development.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, literacy, psychology, social work, education, or a related field
• At least one year in community-based youth program management or comparable experience - preference for work with college students and volunteers, familiarity with university culture, and working in diverse communities
• Highly organized in order to meet the Jumpstart reporting requirements and to coordinate Georgetown-grant reporting practices
• Attention to detail
• Tutoring and mentoring knowledge and skills
• Knowledge of early childhood education issues
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Excellent group facilitation and conflict resolution skills
• Availability and willingness to work occasional evening and weekend hours

Sponsored Project Management

Within 30 days after the close of the month (generally the 8th business day after the end of the month), the duties to be performed by the employee include, but not limited to:
• Review and reconcile expenses on the Center Status Reports to ensure that the expenses are a) allowable by the sponsor for the project, b) allocable to the project, c) reasonable and necessary, d) supported by required documents, and e) within the budgeted amounts;
• Review salary distributions to ensure that they reasonably reflect employees' level of effort on project. Review associated fringe benefits for accuracy;
• Review the commitments of key personnel, to ensure the costs reasonably reflect the level of effort committed to the sponsors as part of proposal and notify OSP/OSR of significant variances;
• Review the calculation of indirect cost recovery to ensure accuracy;
• Process all corrections and adjustments within 90 days of when the charge initially posts to the financial system (posted date for non-payroll and pay period end date for payroll transactions) and ensure corrections and adjustments are reviewed and approved according to the signature authority policy and supported by appropriate documents;
• Complete the Financial Status Report (FSR) worksheets timely and accurately; and
• Ensure that payments to subrecipients are reviewed and processed in a timely manner.
