The Policy, Programme and Intergovernmental Division (PPID) develops and implements UN Women’s programme of work across its normative, coordination, and operational triple mandate and provides policy advice, guidance and technical support to intergovernmental processes, the UN system, and UN Women regional and country offices, among other partners and stakeholders. The Division is organized in thematic sections, which undertake policy research; analyse data on country, regional and global trends; and propose evidence-based options for global policy, norms and standards as well as for UN Women’s policy advocacy and global programme strategies.
Economic empowerment is one of the priority areas of UN Women. UN Women works with governments and partners to promote women’s economic empowerment and increase their access to economic opportunities and outcomes, especially for those who are most excluded. The Sustainable Development team in Economic Empowerment is undertaking a signature initiative on women's climate action and green/blue economies and is responsible for substantive preparations for the review theme that will be considered in the sixty-eighth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), which will take place in March 2024. CSW is the principle global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. The review theme for CSW68 will be Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls (agreed conclusions of the sixty-third session).
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Policy Specialist – Sustainable Development, the intern shall perform the following assignments, which may vary in accordance with the priorities of the Section:
• Support the development of policy briefs, guidance notes, and research papers on sustainable development and women’s climate action and green/blue economies;
• Conduct bibliographical searches and literature reviews on relevant issues pertaining to the sustainable development portfolio;
• Support in the preparations leading to the CSW68, including in the organization of interactive dialogues, expert panels and side events;
• Provide general support to the Economic Empowerment Section, as needed.

The Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), housed within Global, generates leading research and practical insights to advance global sustainable development and implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within and across all countries. CSD is recruiting a research analyst to work in a new program being developed within CSD on gender and sustainable development. Research analysts support scholars by providing research, writing, data, statistical, and geospatial analysis related to policies and trends pertinent to global sustainable development. Focus areas of research include fiscal policy and finance for gender equality and women's empowerment in the evolving context of COVID recovery, climate change, and conflict prevention and response, in addition to longstanding issues of poverty and economic development; a reinvigorated global and institutional architecture that is fit for purpose to achieve gender equality and women's empowerment, informed by ongoing advances in behavioral science; the intersections between gender equality and the care economy in the climate change discourse, and SDG 5 benchmarking and implementation, among others. Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements:

Minimum two years of work experience in empirical research and quantitative data analysis, potentially including previous experience working as a research assistant with a professor. Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
Proficiency in Stata required, with experience and confidence in accurately manipulating and analyzing large datasets. Expertise with ArcGIS and R highly desirable. Knowledge of SPSS, LaTeX/LyX, Python, and Matlab a plus. Successful candidate must be detail-oriented with a passion for precision, in addition to the capacity to connect data insights and bring them to a larger conversation. Ideal candidate can build on methods to advance tool sets and techniques. Interns will have the opportunity to attend virtual meetings, think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to network with other interns throughout the Institution.
This internship is an opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year and graduate students with an interest in advancing global sustainable development to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional environment. This internship pays an hourly rate of $17.00, and applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 15 hours per week, during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule.

The Global Economy and Development (“Global”) program at Brookings aims to shape the policy debate to improve global economic cooperation and fight global poverty and sources of social stress. The intern will work within the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) on the 17 Rooms team, gaining exposure to a broad set of policy topics related to global sustainable development and the sustainable development goals (SDGs), while developing their analytical thinking, organizational, and writing skills. The intern will report to a Senior Project Manager at CSD and will assist with the execution of the 17 Rooms initiative – a convening and problem-solving approach to stimulate cooperative action for the SDGs.
Interns should expect a range of opportunities, broadly defined under the following categories:
General research and writing: The intern will support tasks such as literature review, conducting data searches, quantitative data analysis, database updates, bibliographic support, fact-checking, and contributing to blogs, research briefs, and presentations.
Event Coordination and Administrative Support: During the internship period, there will be virtual meetings and events for which the intern will provide support through drafting invitations, tracking registration, communication with external stakeholders, notetaking, and coordinating travel as required. POSITION SUMMARY
This position will support the SDSN’s Climate and Energy Program in the coordination of an array of projects including: European Green Deal Senior Working Group; the Zero Emissions Solutions Conference; Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition; US Local Pathways Project; Guide to Net Zero Campus Community of Practice; and various fundraising proposals. The intern will be asked to support various aspects of these projects as they progress including research, meeting scheduling, note taking, authorship and editorial work, communications and project management, fundraising, and partnership outreach.
A key part of the coordinator’s responsibilities will be helping to maintain the administrative and research activities of these ongoing projects, as well as supporting in the application processes of funding opportunities to help scale up these efforts.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinating meetings and corresponding with project teams as materials are drafted
• Developing, managing and organizing report drafts, and gaining legal consent for use of images and figures

ABOUT THE SDSN CLIMATE & ENERGY PROGRAM
The SDSN Climate & Energy Program is designed to support a collaborative brainstorming and solutions-oriented mode to the Paris Agreement, with the following objectives:
• Strengthen the technical capacities of signatory governments of the UNFCCC to design and implement long-term low greenhouse gas emissions development strategies as called for in the Paris Agreement (NDCs and LEDSs);
• Chart 2050 strategies for decarbonized energy systems, based on public-private partnerships;
• Create an intensive global dialogue among engineers and technology specialists on innovative solutions for a carbon neutral future; and
• Enhance global exchange and partnerships for technology solutions between governments, businesses, academia, and civil society organizations.
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will support the SDSN’s Climate and Energy Program in the coordination of an array of projects including: European Green Deal Senior Working Group; the Zero Emissions Solutions Conference; Council of Engineers for the Energy Transition; US Local Pathways Project; Guide to Net Zero Campus Community of Practice; and various fundraising proposals. The intern will be asked to support various aspects of these projects as they progress including research, meeting scheduling, note taking, authorship and editorial work, communications and project management, fundraising, and partnership outreach.
A key part of the coordinator’s responsibilities will be helping to maintain the administrative and research activities of these ongoing projects, as well as supporting in the application processes of funding opportunities to help scale up these efforts.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The intern will be involved in the following activities:
• Coordinating meetings and corresponding with project teams as materials are drafted
• Developing, managing and organizing report drafts, and gaining legal consent for use of images and figures
• Compiling and editing references for reports to ensure consistent and accurate citations
• Assisting in organizing and coordinating virtual events as part of the climate and energy program
• Support climate and energy fundraising efforts including grant writing and research
• Contributing to the SDSN website, including writing and editing content
• Helping to prioritize, draft, edit, and submit funding applications for climate and energy projects
• Creation of databases that collate relevant resources to support various program projects
