The Club is in excellent financial condition; total operating revenues of $5.1M, with $1.7 M in Food/Bar revenue. The Club is undergoing a $7M patio and clubhouse renovation that is scheduled to be completed by Memorial Day 2023.
CONTROLLER POSITION SUMMARY
The Controller will be responsible to develop policies to control and coordinate accounting, auditing, budgets, taxes and related activities and records; develops, establishes and administers procedures and systems pertaining to financial matters; prepares financial statements, forecasts and analyses for all administrative and managerial functions.
The Controller will also maintain all accounting records and is responsible for development, analysis and interpretation of statistical and accounting information. Evaluates operating results in terms of costs, budgets, policies of operation as it pertains to accounting, trends and increased profit potential.
This position supervises a staff of two and is responsible for scheduling, training and the professional development of department members. Also assists the General Manager in all Human Resource matters including file maintenance, employee handbook and all pertaining law compliance.
POSITION DUTIES
• Formulates, receives and recommends policy proposals for approval relating to accounting and auditing, the budget and cost control, preparation and payment of payrolls, tax matters, compilation of statistics and office methods and procedures.
• Prepares monthly trial balance and resulting financial statements for the club along with required supporting schedules and other data necessary for financial reports in a timely, systematic manner, by the 15th of every month.
• Manages and conducts internal auditing programs to assure that records are accurately maintained and that established policies and practices are satisfactorily and consistently followed.
• Prepares budgets and financial forecasts in coordination with the various committees, departments and General Manager; analyzes financial information, monitors budgeted versus actual expenditures and advises management about variances and their potential causes in a timely manner so as to allow for corrective action if necessary.
• Works with the club's external auditors to assure that procedures are consistent with club policies. Follows up on all matters that are results of those audits.
• Prepares and verifies reports made to agencies, and trade and professional organizations for which dissemination is consistent with club policies.
• Directs, participates in and verifies the taking of various inventories for food, beverages, supplies, equipment, furnishings, etc.
• Verifies that all lease agreements and insurance records for club property are properly administered and maintained.
• Supervises accounting staff.
• Informs and advises other department heads regarding the financial aspects of their areas of responsibility. Acts as financial support and counsel for all club departments.
• Prepares and supervises preparation of applicable federal, state and local tax returns.
• In coordination with the General Manager, prepares accounting reports as necessary and appropriate for dissemination to the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and other club committees.
• Monitors to assure that procedures for effective receiving and storeroom control are in place and consistently used.
POSITION SPECIFICATION
The following shall serve as a model profile of skills and abilities necessary to fulfill the responsibilities and demands of this position.
Experience and Background: Candidate should possess a minimum of five years progressive management responsibilities coupled with significant accounting, human relations and office administration experiences. CPA a plus but not necessary.
Innovation and Creativity: Individual must possess the interest, and ability to appropriately introduce state of the art methods, management, control procedures, and technology advances. The candidate must be able to work closely with all club department heads as necessary to not only provide the timely pertinent information critical for better club management but to educate those in the financial matters of the club.
Human Resource Management: Candidate must possess the necessary skills for the professional management and development of an accountant. These skills will include training, coaching and overall accountability of the "financial support team". The candidate must be a real team player possessing real empathy for his/her fellow staff. He/she must possess a strong desire to support all department managers in daily operation of their departments.
Financial Accountability: Candidate must possess the ability to successfully manage the administration department of the club operation. Moreover, the position of Controller requires the individual to take on a pro-active financial leadership role within the club. Not only must he/she be able to report accurately the financial position of the club as a whole, but he must prepare all appropriate management reports (tools) to administer the club daily and to track progress to plan daily. The controller must be able to produce reports on a timely manner in a form agreed upon by the club. He/she must be able to restructure club reports as needed. The candidate must be able and willing to continually develop new and better methods to facilitate improved club management control, and operating efficiencies. He/she must be able to produce realistic forecasts and reasonable analysis of all financial data and reports.
Responsibilities: The club operating and capital budgets are several million dollars in total and the candidate must therefore, conduct the financial and administrative affairs of the club in an ethical and professional manner.
Technical Skills: Candidate must be extremely knowledgeable in private club accounting, practices and procedures for not-for-profit tax-exempt organizations. He/she must possess strong computer skills, P.O.S systems, (experience with Jonas a plus), report writing, Windows applications software and general operating systems. He/she must also possess a working knowledge of local area networks and electronic communications. Advanced working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing is a must; also desk top publishing skills would be a distinct advantage.

What You’ll Do
• Handle content distribution across all of our platforms
• Track and analyze data to help inform social platform strategy and create plan to carry it out
• Coordinate weekly coverage/come up with new ways to expand reach
• Deliver weekly analytics across social channels
• Organizing social coverage and continue development of multi-platform presence
• Extensive knowledge of mainstream social channels: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
• Execute best practices/tips for growing our golf brand socially
• Pitch stories to the relevant platforms (Apple News, Flipboard, SmartNews, Facebook News)
