Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Participates in and oversees the work of road maintenance employees engaged in the repairing roads, clearing of land for construction of roads, parking lots, building sights, routine maintenance of county roads, etc.

Trains new employees; instructs employees in new work methods and procedures.

Performs basic maintenance on equipment, checking all fluid levels and greasing and minor maintenance repairs.

May assist in performing unskilled or semi-skilled labor such as pouring concrete, laying block, installing pipes, installing erosion controls and shoulder maintenance.

Oversee the work of inmate work crew and are responsible for their safety and security at all times.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Performs Other Related Duties As Required.

Major Job Responsibilities

Inspects materials entering the landfill for hazardous (toxic) chemicals and instructs customers regarding prohibited items (i.e. inert material, liquid waste, etc.) and items requiring additional fees. Instructs customers regarding properly ensuring paint containers either are dry or free of liquids.

Verifies loads are properly secured in compliance with county ordinances and reports violations to appropriate management.

Weighs vehicles carrying materials in and out and assess appropriate fees; collects fees or enters appropriate account number for commercial account holders. Is accountable for ensuring accuracy of collected fees in the form of cash, check and credit card transactions. Hand writes weight tickets and credit card receipts on rare occasions when the computers are down.

Reminds customers that the landfill only accepts waste from the residents and taxpayers of Hall County.

Controls the inbound/outbound scale traffic as they cross the scales.

Runs daily reconciliation reports; initially reconciles the cash drawer and the daily deposit before turning it over to administrative assistant for verification. Compiles change order requests for fulfillment at the bank with deposits.

Maintains accurate records, runs reports and transmits information for data processing. Including but not limited to fuel logs, banking logs, daily tonnage reports, etc.

Directs deliveries of supplies and equipment.

Assists in answering the multi-line telephone system and two-way radio communications.

Performs Other Related Duties As Required.

Summary of Duties:

During training period, observes and participates in the operation and monitoring of radio dispatch and telephone systems utilizing multi-channels and frequencies in a public safety communications center; receives, logs and dispatches calls to appropriate personnel and secures proper information from persons in state of excitement or panic to assure adequate emergency response.

Under direct supervision, answers 911 emergency and non-emergency calls from citizens of Hall County; obtains vital information; refers callers to appropriate agencies and/or contacts agencies and obtains assistance for caller.
• Maintains, updates, and files all pertinent logs, information cards, and other records and documents daily.
• Assists trained Communications Officers in the transmission of orders and receiving of messages from a large number of law enforcement units, emergency response units, local and state agencies, wrecker services, FAA, utility companies, and others.
• Is trained to recognize duplicate and related calls and screen calls from trouble areas, assists public over the telephone in order to obtain accurate information, maintains constant knowledge of all available units, chase procedures, and emergency alert and disaster procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares press releases and other spotlights for the Office of the Tax Commissioner.

Maintains positive relationships established with editors and reporters at local media outlets, resulting in prompt publication of important notices and corrections; responds to editorial board regarding the Tax Commissioner’s positions on controversial issues; frequently in contact with print and radio reporters and station managers regarding County, Department of Revenue or State news, meetings, events, etc., including on-air interviews.

Provides content, oversight and updates to information on the Tax Commissioner website. Monitors design and format of the Tax Commissioner website, including implementation of various divisional linked pages to ensure appropriate content, quality control and consistency. Provides some basic graphic design work and/or contracts with graphic designers for professional services.

Oversees the consistent branding and messaging across all of the Tax Commissioner’s communications platforms, including website, emails, texts, presentations, publications, speeches, and the functions of the Customer Interaction Center (phone calls).

Prepares annual report magazine; prepares presentations, posters, brochures and other visual displays as needed.

Fields phone calls on public issues. Routes Tax Commissioner’s requests to appropriate department for action. Responds to citizen requests for information and materials; resolves complaints and answers questions.

Coordinates media coverage and provides background information: may advise and/or prepare speeches and public comment on issues facing the Tax Commissioner.

Works with various departments to assist in preparation of on-line posting of news releases.

Arranges and coordinates special events (ribbon cuttings, town hall meetings, receptions) at the direction of the Tax Commissioner.

Works with local media to assure coverage of Hall County, Tax Commissioner, Department of Revenue or State events. Notifies press of issues facing the Tax Commissioner that may warrant coverage.

Attends Board of Commissioners meetings, work sessions and other events and activities required to maintain a thorough and up-to-date knowledge of government/commission issues and activities.

Participates on various boards as requested by the Tax Commissioner and reports on activities affecting the Office.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

Performs other duties, as required.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science or related field.
