Assist implementing the MaST Center Aquarium’s Sound Science Camp for participants ages 8-11 and 12-14 years old. Help summer camp participants through hands-on educational experiences. Activities include beach exploration, animal identification, skeleton articulation, specimen dissection, and more. Assist in teaching campers ages 8-14 years old about the marine environment and help them gain skills that can be used in most marine science careers. Work on a team of 2-4 camp assistants and volunteers. Camps are scheduled for the weeks of July 17th-20th, July 31st-August 3rd, August 7th-10th, and August 14th-17th.

About the MaST:
The MaST Center Aquarium fosters a culture of marine stewardship by engaging our community through interactive learning, personal relations and exploration.
The MaST Center Aquarium is the marine laboratory for Highline College and is used for Highline and community classes, research, and other activities. The facility has approximately 3,500 gallons of flow-through aquariums and houses over 250 species of marine life from the Salish Sea. The MaST Center Aquarium is open every Saturday to the public during its Discovery Days and hosts over 15,000 visitors annually. During the rest of the week, the MaST Center Aquarium is used for Highline classes, school groups, and other activities that support its mission.
Located in the Redondo neighborhood of Des Moines, WA, the MaST Center Aquarium is about 10 minutes south of the main campus and is halfway between Seattle and Tacoma. It is located on a 270 ft. pier that extends out into Poverty Bay. Redondo is one of the top dive sites in the entire Puget Sound and features one of seven Octopus Protection Areas in the state.

Compensation:
Pay rate of $21 per hour. This position is a part-time, temporary position. Work will be performed on-site at the MaST Center Aquarium.
Essential Tasks

Reporting directly to and in collaboration with the Community Engagement Coordinator of the MaST Center Aquarium, this position will:
Primary:
• Assist the Lead Counselor in implementing the MaST Center Aquarium’s Sound Science summer camp; including prepping the facility, assisting participants, and following all established policies;
• Help set up, deliver, and break down educational programs through inquiry-based or hands-on learning techniques to camp participants and that meet the needs of our diverse and multicultural participants with varying abilities;
• Work on a team of counselors and volunteers to assist with implementing curriculum, prepping the facility, supervising participants, and maintaining a safe learning environment.
Ability to:
• Communicate effectively (verbal and written);
• Possess public speaking skills and knowledge necessary to deliver educational content in areas of marine biology, natural history and conservation issues effectively with the public in both formal and informal settings that meet the needs of our diverse and multicultural community members with varying abilities;
• Communicate and work respectfully and effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, sexual orientation, and socio- economic backgrounds, and with diverse physical and learning abilities;
• Work collaboratively with the MaST Center Aquarium Community Engagement Coordinator and other staff to enhance the success and mission of the MaST Center Aquarium;
• Work with minimal supervision, possess organizational skills, and be self-motivated;
• Exercise strong interpersonal, collaboration, team-building skills, share responsibilities and perform assignments in concert with the team’s efforts;
• Continuously update and increase their knowledge of Marine Ecology, Plankton, Marine Plants and Animals, Oceanography, and current events of the Salish Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
Conditions of Employment:
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to work outdoors, on wet and slippery surfaces;
• A valid driver’s license with no pending risk of loss and regular access to dependable transportation;
• Computer proficiency with knowledge of MS Office applications;
• Ability to work in physically challenging environment including long periods exposed in extreme temperatures and field conditions while keeping an upbeat personality.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalent; AND
• Experience working or volunteering with formal or informal education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• 1+ years’ experience of increasing responsibility leading and developing formal or informal education programs with preference given to experience at a zoo or aquarium;
• Degree or equivalent experience in marine sciences, environment, or education;
• First Aid and CPR certified or must be willing to become certified.

The Leadership Advisor will report to the Director of Center for Leadership and Service. The International Engagement Leadership Advisor establishes and maintains a culture of international student life and activities. The purpose of this position is to enhance international student programming and engagement efforts. This position is responsible for supporting a sense of belonging, campus navigation and maximizing the college experience through leadership development and academic excellence for international students.

This position is an exempt, at-will, full-time position. Hours of work may include evening, weekend and occasional travel.
Essential Tasks

Reporting directly to the Center for Leadership and Services Director this position will:
Programming and Planning - 45%
• Develop a programming calendar of events for each academic quarter geared towards engaging the community of global students at Highline;
• In collaboration with International Student Programs, oversee and support student leaders (Global Student Ambassadors) in leading activities focused on peer-to-peer engagement during International Student Orientation;
• Collaborate with campus partners to enhance co-curricular student engagement between international and domestic students;
• Coordinate experiential learning opportunities for international students;
• Coordinate paperwork for events/programs for room reservations, catering, student travel, materials and supplies. This position works closely with Conference Services, Catering, Purchasing, and Travel Departments;
• Meet regularly with ISP director and other ISP staff as needed to support key areas of international student success, including housing, orientation, and student engagement; serve on related committees as needed;
• Provide global students with resource referrals to appropriate campus staff and faculty in order to navigate college processes and to access student support resources. This includes, but not limited to financial aid, funding sources, admission and degree requirements for Washington state colleges and universities.
Student Supervision – 25%
• Supervise a team up to 5 paid student leaders;
• Provide continuous training and volunteer program orientations.
General Leadership Advising/Leadership Programming Team- 15%
• Empower students towards campus communities and leadership experiences;
• Create appropriate, culturally responsive and needed leadership training curriculum to support the growth and development of students and communities;
• Model and promote the concepts of Servant Leadership, social justice and inclusion;
• Collaborate with the Unit Leadership Programming Team, providing robust leadership development programs to the Highline College student community;

Essential Tasks

The successful candidate will:
• Provide leadership, coordination, consultation, assistance, strategic oversight, and direction, regarding all equity, diversity, and transformation matters;

Essential Tasks

Reporting to the Continuing Education Associate Director, this position will:
• Provide program information and technical assistance to program participants, staff and outside entities regarding program content, policies and activities;
• Coordinate project details and represent Highline College at Continuing Education sponsored events, meetings and programs, including off-site location;
• Work with program instructors and representatives of outside organizations in defining and building quarterly schedule; collects syllabus and curriculum material for each course;

• Supervise and direct the work of hourly staff work-study;

• Collaborate with a graphic designer and printer to develop and prepare marketing collateral including brochures and flyers;
• Assist in the preparation of contract and grant proposals;
• Project, monitor, maintain, and initiate expenditures and corrective action on department program budgets, including grants and contracts;
• Provide invoicing support for both grants and contracts;
• Monitor program activities in relation to established program goals;
• Determine any variance from program standards based off established program parameters;
• Resolve problems within a delegated area of authority;
• Elevate unusual problems to program managers and provide probable outcomes and solutions;
• As required, approves budget expenditures for program;

Under the supervision of the TSC Program Manager, the TSC Navigator will provide general advising and college navigation services for ELCAP & HSEAS students, such as: organizing and coordinating student support operations, caseload management, academic advising, assisting with college applications, understanding of general college information, conducting classroom presentations, and providing advocacy and referral services on/off campus.

This is a full-time exempt, at will position. This position requires a flexible schedule of working in the evenings and weekends.

Essential Tasks

Reporting to the Transition Success Center Program Manager, this position will:
• Provide general 1-on-1 advising for students in the following areas, including, but not limited to, college admissions, enrollment, degree exploration, and funding literacy (i.e. financial aid/scholarships);
• Become familiar with campus partners for referrals, such as Workforce Education Services (WES), Entry and Academic Advising, I-BEST, TRIO, Career and Student Employment (CASE), Placement and Testing Center, Benefits Hub, Counseling, Financial Aid services, Academic Success Center, Center for Leadership and Services, Campus Pantry, Learning communities, etc;
• Maintain a caseload of students and track progress and persistence from ELCAP/HSEAS completion to college level programs, specifically Professional Technical programs;
• Document and maintain timely and accurate records/files on student needs, services provided, academic progress, support and referrals, and retention/completion statuses;
• Become familiar with Highline College academic programs (Continuing Education, Certificate and Degree Programs);
• Co-facilitate/Lead presentations and workshops for students;
• Schedule appointments, meetings, and activities;
• Maintain professional and positive working relationships with faculty/staff serving students transitioning from ELCAP/HSEAS to college credit courses;
• Work with TSC Program Manager with outreach, marketing and recruitment goals and planning;
• Other duties as assigned.

• Prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines while being attentive to details;

• Bachelor's degree (or higher); AND

Essential Tasks

Duties and Responsibilities

• Teaching: Teach the four skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing, plus transition to college skills and technology instruction—to all levels of ESOL, serving adult refugee and immigrant students. (Teaching assignments may include daytime, evening, weekend, and off-campus classes; in-person, hybrid, or online formats; math and other electives for ESOL students; and cohort-based instruction.)
• Service: Participate in department and college activities and collaborate with other faculty in program development, serving on campus-wide committees, attending division and department meetings, assisting with accreditation efforts, and performing other duties as outlined in the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. All full-time ELCAP faculty also serve as Department Coordinator (a 3-year commitment on a rotating basis within the FT group) and in leadership roles within the department, the division, and the college.
• Advising: Integrate transition to college concepts into classroom instruction and incorporate retention and progression strategies. Advise ESOL students on course and program requirements in one-on-one meetings as needed.
• Professional development: Continuously improve teaching methodology and student-centered learning by developing, modifying, and assessing curricula and by staying current in the field through persistent professional development.

• Demonstrable experience with contextualized curriculum design and assessment.
• Desired Qualifications:*
• 3+ years teaching ESOL/ABE to adult immigrant and refugee learners in a community college, community-based, or undergraduate setting;
• Experience teaching at a variety of levels including very beginning ESOL or GED;
• Creating and delivering lessons in face-to-face, virtual, and online modalities;
• 3+ years integrating transition to college concepts into classroom instruction and a commitment to teaching these skills and incorporating retention and progression strategies;
• 3+ years integrating technology in instruction including Canvas or another learning management system;

Salary and Benefits:
Initial annual salary placement ranges from $ 69,069-78,871 based on current contract for a standard 170-day contract. The College has a negotiated faculty wage scale. Placement on the salary scale in accordance with the HC-Highline College Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.

A standard 170-day contract is written annually for the period of September to June. Late contracts will be prorated on the basis of work days remaining in the contract year. This position is exempt from the overtime pay requirements of The Fair Labor Standards Act.

This is a union represented position subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Salary, retirement, medical and insurance benefits are provided in accordance with state regulations and may be subject to change in accordance with legislative mandates and collective bargaining agreements.
