What you will be doing

As an Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas you will be joining the multi-disciplinary Development Advice Team. You will take delegated responsibility for the delivery of our advice on proposals for change in the historic environment acrossYorkshire, providing advice on the sustainable management of the historic environment.

As a key member of the Development Advice Team, you will use... your knowledge to provide planning and sustainable management advice in relation to buildings (both secular and ecclesiastical), historic places, areas and designed landscapes, providing advice in response to pre-application and formal consultations across the fascinating historic environment.

You will assess proposals, obtaining any further information required, and deliver our advice to confirmed timescales and to excellent customer service standards.

You will undertake pre-application discussions with potential applicants where appropriate, to negotiate creative solutions to problems.

You will work collaboratively across teams in a partnership approach, contributing to objectives and key heritage challenges such as rejuvenating the high street and creating better places and spaces for all.

Who We Are Looking For
• A good understanding of relevant Government policy, guidance and statutory procedures for the historic environment in the planning system, including LBC and Ecclesiastical Exemption
• A methodical and analytical approach to understanding proposals for change to heritage assets and assessing their impact
• Excellent negotiating, influencing and stakeholder engagement skills to achieve positive outcomes for the historic environment
• Constructive and creative problem- solving skills.
• Excellent team-working, collaboration and project management skills.
• Working under pressure and the ability to prioritise.

Please note the role requires regular travel to sites not serviced by public transport and you will require a driving licence (unless a specific reasonable adjustment is required for inclusion) and may require visiting/inspecting sites where climbing scaffolding and negotiating confined spaces will be necessary. The role may also require occasional attendance at community meetings, which are usually held at evenings or weekends.

What you will be doing

Strategy

You will support the Marketing Manager in the delivery of marketing plans against key objectives in Historic England’s Corporate Plan including increasing our relevance and brand awareness; and encouraging people to see the historic environment as part of their everyday lives, and to get involved.

Delivery

You will work collaboratively and build relationships with team members across Public Engagement in order to deliver... marketing activity for key projects and programmes, work with the Content team to develop multi-platform content and engagement opportunities to improve customer journeys and acquire and process data in compliance with policies and regulations.

You will provide copywriting and proofreading skills for collateral and campaigns, ensure the delivery of audience insight and research, as well as development and roll-out of Historic England’s Audience System in order to drive participation and increase brand awareness.

The role will work with the Marketing Manager in identifying engagement opportunities and work with key partners/stakeholders to generate campaigns and progress brand marketing opportunities

You will work with Head of Creative Studio in developing and refreshing Historic England’s visual identity, work with colleagues in the delivery and implementation of multiplatform products including the Digital Asset Management (DAM) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

You will monitor the Marketing inbox and deal with enquiries, coordinate incoming briefs and monitor progress against workflows, brief and provide a day-to-day contact with agencies, creative suppliers, contractors and other internal stakeholders to help deliver projects in a timely and efficient manner ensuring quality and brand compliance.

Cross-group working

The role involves working with staff across Historic England to provide advice on the use of the brand and delivery of marketing activity.

You will co-ordinate the briefing and delivery process to effectively and efficiently triage and distribute requests for creative/content scheduling and production, participate in national and cross-group projects which support corporate priorities in such projects as Levelling Up, Climate Change and High Street Heritage Action Zones.

Learning

You will develop knowledge and awareness of all the areas of work undertaken by Historic England and offer professional marketing services to internal and external customers, keep up with new marketing and brand developments within the heritage and cultural sectors.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Heritage at Risk Project Officer to join our team. This is a 12 month FTC.

What you will be doing

Heritage at Risk Projects Officers will provide expert advice on the planning, funding and delivery of heritage at risk projects across the range of asset types in the South West. Applying the ethos of ‘constructive conservation’ they will work closely with owners, local authorities and with partner agencies to negotiate effective projects, identify funding and facilitate consents. They will report on project progress, update the HAR Register, and contribute to associated administration and public promotion of Heritage at risk cases and themes.

Main duties and responsibilities:

1. To work proactively and creatively with owners, local authorities, statutory bodies, building preservation... trusts, developers and funding bodies etc. to promote a sustainable and viable future for historic assets on the HAR Register and advise and implement strategic and project-based solutions for Heritage at Risk.

2. To work closely with funding bodies (such as Natural England / Heritage Lottery Fund etc.) to identify sources of grant aid (such as Countryside Stewardship Scheme funding) for HAR assets and encourage and facilitate applications for support.

3. To use Historic England’s local and national resources such as grant aid, management experience and specialist resources to achieve long-term reduction in threat to designated assets.

4. To work with owners, Local Authorities and voluntary groups in order to monitor HAR assets and when necessary, encourage their repair/consolidation/reuse. To help colleagues develop and build capacity to tackle Heritage at Risk,

5. To support the maintenance and updating of the local HAR (Heritage Asset Management Database) and Register using information obtained either by Historic England or suitably informed partners and volunteers, or by remote methods such as aerial reconnaissance.

6. To support colleagues in developing and building capacity in the sector to find sustainable solutions for heritage at risk.

7. To assist the Development Advice teams with actions in respect of unauthorised works and damage to heritage assets, as agreed with the Team Leader and in liaison with HE legal advisers and police.

8. To give specialist advice on project planning, recording, archaeological evaluation and building analysis and other investigations leading to repair.

9. To be an effective advocate for the benefit for local places of conserving heritage assets.

10. To support the delivery of Corporate Plan, Regional Plan, Historic England Places Strategy, Public Value Framework, and other national and local strategies as agreed with line management.

11. To undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade and competences required of the post requested by line management.
