• Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.

• Performs with compliance standards and established safety procedures.
• Maintains required documentation on laboratory conditions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in recombinant DNA methods, mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein expression, or microscopy is strongly preferred.
• Experience in the care and use of general biological lab equipment is strongly preferred.
• Excellent oral communication skills and ability to work well with others.
• High attention to detail and can follow directions and protocols.

Job Description:
SUMMARY
The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for preparing the laboratory classrooms and demonstrations in accordance to lesson plans, assisting in the troubleshooting of equipment and software to meet the needs of the lesson plan and appropriate clean up after the lesson has concluded. Ultimately, ensuring the laboratory is secured, equipment is cleaned, maintained and stored properly.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepares classroom laboratory workstations with the necessary materials and apparatus to perform experiments
• Sets up and prepares experiments and demonstrations for classroom use
• Arranges supplies and equipment as laboratory requirements change
• Maintains and cleans the laboratory, stockroom, equipment and glassware
• Fills tubes, bottles and containers with specified solutions/materials and applies identification labels
• Properly disposes of laboratory waste materials
• Assists faculty in the laboratory; sometimes during educational sessions, by providing technical troubleshooting support
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance of laboratory equipment and tools
• Assists faculty with the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures and/or curricula
• Secures laboratory area
• Assists with annual inventory
• May record and monitors expenditures and charges relevant to laboratory operation
• May functionally supervise Work Study Students, Student Assistants and Part Time Lab Technicians in the lab
• Prepares, maintains and monitors supplies and equipment inventory
• Assists Lab Supervisor in ordering, receiving and storing supplies

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
• High School degree or GED
• Minimum of two years of experience:
• Science Laboratory Technicians: these two years must be in a laboratory-based Science (Biology, MLT, Chemistry, Physics, or other equivalent in Health Careers and Sciences)
• Automotive Laboratory Technicians: these two years must be in an automotive repair shop or equivalent
• Basic computer skills, math and grammar
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent verbal, written and verbal communication skills; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

Job Description:
SUMMARY
The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for preparing the laboratory classrooms and demonstrations in accordance to lesson plans, assisting in the troubleshooting of equipment and software to meet the needs of the lesson plan and appropriate clean up after the lesson has concluded. Ultimately, ensuring the laboratory is secured, equipment is cleaned, maintained and stored properly.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepares classroom laboratory workstations with the necessary materials and apparatus to perform experiments
• Sets up and prepares experiments and demonstrations for classroom use
• Arranges supplies and equipment as laboratory requirements change
• Maintains and cleans the laboratory, stockroom, equipment and glassware
• Fills tubes, bottles and containers with specified solutions/materials and applies identification labels
• Properly disposes of laboratory waste materials
• Assists faculty in the laboratory; sometimes during educational sessions, by providing technical troubleshooting support
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance of laboratory equipment and tools
• Assists faculty with the development and implementation of new laboratory procedures and/or curricula
• Secures laboratory area
• Assists with annual inventory
• May record and monitors expenditures and charges relevant to laboratory operation
• May functionally supervise Work Study Students, Student Assistants and Part Time Lab Technicians in the lab
• Prepares, maintains and monitors supplies and equipment inventory
• Assists Lab Supervisor in ordering, receiving and storing supplies
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Science Laboratory Technicians may Maintain living plants and animals (i.e. rodents)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
• High School degree or GED
• Minimum of two years of experience:
• Science Laboratory Technicians: these two years must be in a laboratory-based Science (Biology, MLT, Chemistry, Physics, or other equivalent in Health Careers and Sciences)
• Automotive Laboratory Technicians: these two years must be in an automotive repair shop or equivalent
• Basic computer skills, math and grammar
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent verbal, written and verbal communication skills; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
• Ability to read and interpret documents including: Safety Data Sheets (SDS), safety rules and processes, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to determine needs and identify solutions
• Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of regular work

Appointment: Full-Time; 40 hours per week; 12 months
Status: Non-exempt (Hourly) $14.00
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Provide administrative support for the Department of Biology and the STEM Center. Specific duties will include but are not limited to:
• assist undergraduate and graduate students.
• work closely with department chair and program director and graduate coordinator.
• monitor budgetary accounts.
• maintain inventory of supplies
• work with faculty on supply orders for labs - research and teaching labs.
• coordinate and receive telephone communications, students, parents and visitors.
• sort and distribute mail.
• prepare, type and duplicate correspondence, reports, exams, syllabi, manuscripts, handouts and materials for classes and STEM Center activities.
• compile book orders.
• compile advisor lists.
• maintain student files and records.
• compile information and materials for advisors.
• assist students with class registration, change of major, transfer work, course change, cancellation and addition forms, enter students with registration, reserve and wait lists.
• compile and tabulate students course evaluations; prepare departmental student payroll.
• arrange travel.
• perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
• Three years of office experience that demonstrates ability to work independently.
• Ability to use sound judgment to make decisions.
• perform detailed job tasks with accuracy.
• effectively interact in person, via email and telephone with students, parents, University personnel and external constituents
