An exciting and rarely available opportunity to spearhead the award-winning, market-leading multimedia magazine of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), E&T.

IET recently appointed the employee-owned content and publishing agency, Redactive Media Group , to develop E&T.

Redactive is looking for an experienced and creative editor to help us enhance the magazine’s offering to members, readers and the Institution. This exciting role will involve managing a team and a close client relationship to deliver an innovative and effective cross-platform content strategy that engages members, stakeholders and commercial partners.

E&T is highly regarded by IET members and the global engineering and technology community. The editor will be required to build on the magazine’s successes to date and drive innovation in its content delivery across channels.

Published six times a year, online iet.org and via email and social media... channels, E&T has a substantial print and digital readership with a circulation of 125,000 and around a quarter of a million website visitors each month.

We need to produce high-quality content that aids the knowledge and technical development of the world’s engineering and technology professional as well as supporting IET in meeting its communications objectives.
The editor’s responsibilities will include:
• Line management of an editorial team and close liaison with other business functions to deliver our content and publishing strategy for IET
• Creating, commissioning and curating content for publication in print and online
• Guiding the magazine’s design and picture department on layout, choice of images and managing the sub-editing process
• Effective liaison with the advertising sales team to support revenue generation
• The creation and distribution of digital content including online news and insight and series of podcasts, videos and webinars

The editor will be ultimately responsible for developing high quality content for the magazine and its digital channels including the magazine’s successful job board – E&T Jobs.

Your success will be measured by the performance of E&T in delivering content that members value and that achieves the communication objectives of the IET.
The successful candidate will possess:
• Relevant or transferrable subject knowledge and an understanding of the role of engineers in a range of technical specialisms
• An understanding of IET, its mission and its initiatives
• Excellent journalistic skills (degree level or equivalent) and proven experience as an editor with immaculate attention to detail
• Strong client management ability and instincts
• Impeccable project and time management capabilities
• Hands on experience with MS Office and In Design
• Proven ability and knowledge of effective digital publishing, SEO and social media
• A willingness and capability to represent the magazine brand at industry events – comfortable and accomplished in public speaking and in presenting for video and audio channels
• Creativity, innovation and a vision for developing media brands
• Experience, willingness and an aptitude for working with commercial colleagues to maximise revenues
• Enthusiasm, drive and ambition for your team and magazine brand
