Minimum Qualifications:
• Applicants must be a citizen of the United States or a lawful permanent resident in order to serve as DSO and/or ARO.

• A masters degree in a related field is preferred.
• Experience using and comfort with technology (basic office programs, student information systems, higher education software, etc), as well as the ability and willingness to quickly learn new computer-based programs.
• Familiarity with the Student Exchange and Visitor Program (SEVP), SEVIS management, and US Customs and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations pertaining to F and J visa holders.

Required Qualifications:

International Student Advisor is responsible for providing advising services to support the success of international learners in IELP's program. This position primarily supports UW Visiting International Student Internship & Training (VISIT) program and the Visiting International Student Engaged in Research (VISER) program. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Advising & Counseling

Administration

Read and respond to several email accounts, including the VISIT/VISER email account.

Maintain and update student records in the UWC² database and EOS.

Work closely with UWC²units to ensure an efficient and smooth admission and registration process.

Assist with data entry for VISIT/VISER programs as needed.

Job Overview

The Associate Director (AD) of International Student Services serves as Georgetown's Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and develops and implements Georgetown's F-1 non-immigrant visa program for over 3,500 students, their dependents, and academic departments across all Georgetown campuses. The AD evaluates new academic programs for F-1 and J-1 student eligibility, provides data-driven advisement on office and University initiatives, hires new International Student Advisors, provides direct supervision and guidance to 8 Main Campus staff on complex advising and regulatory issues, and provides policy and procedural guidance to 7 additional Designated School Officials (DSO) across the Georgetown campuses. They set policy for all Georgetown campuses, meeting regularly with staff to ensure compliance and standards for service across campuses.

The AD reports directly to the Director of the Office of Global Services and collaborates regularly with the Associate Director for scholar services to ensure consistency of policy and practice across the division. The AD also works closely with the OGS IT Systems Administrator to discuss office business needs and support technological solutions. The Associate Director has duties that include but are not limited to:

Management and Oversight of International Student Services
• Design, implement, and oversee services and policies for international students on all Georgetown campuses.
• Construct policies pertaining to the use of the Banner and ISSM databases and devise processes to ensure precision and productivity in a workflow.
• Ensure the office is appropriately positioned to respond to new reporting requirements, changes to ISSM, and changes to immigration regulations that impact division systems and processes.
• Supervise, oversee training for, and evaluate eight OGS staff, a Graduate Student Intern, and all Georgetown DSOs on policies and procedures; monitor staff performance on day-to-day functions performed in ISSM; and provide guidance on complex regulatory and student advising issues for the Main Campus, EFL, School of Continuing Studies, and the Law Center.
• Work closely with the IT Systems Administrator to ensure proper functioning of the University immigration database, ISSM, and its full development to meet business needs. ISSM enables the division to handle large amounts of academic and biographical data on Georgetown's international community that must be maintained and reported to the Department of Homeland Security on a regular basis. This software is the bridge between the GU Registrar's database, Banner, and the Department of Homeland Security's database, SEVIS. Additionally, ISSM is used as a case management tool and for document preparation.
• Collaborate with the AD for scholar/employment services on divisional retreats, advisor meetings, and on general policies within the division.
• Maintain and update the Policies and Procedures Manual for compliance; and oversee the maintenance of the Policies and Procedures Manual for advising.
• Oversee the process of issuing approximately 1000 immigration documents to incoming students each academic year.
• Oversee compliance procedures for approximately 3,500 students
• Oversee office communications.
International Student Services Support
• Evaluate challenging student advising cases, complaints, escalations, and requests for reconsideration that are beyond the scope of normal student advising; consult legal counsel and University leadership when appropriate; and then make a policy determination, and communicate final decisions, implications, and actions to students and other stakeholders.
• Support compliance functions during peak times and staff turnover. This includes daily monitoring of data feeding from Banner into ISSM to determine which data changes require transmission to SEVIS and which require further action by advisors; uploading and downloading daily batches from ISSM to SEVIS; verifying local address and enrollment data for all students at the beginning of each semester; monitoring SEVIS Alerts twice monthly; performing SEVIS registration to verify and report students' full-time registration at the beginning of each semester; and reviewing DSOs' events submitted to the batch to provide quality assurance and training.
• Draft and approve Form I-20 and Form DS-2019 immigration documents for new incoming students as needed to help the division meet its target processing times.
• Process Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), Academic Training (AT), and J-1 On-Campus Employment work authorization requests as needed to help the division meet its target processing times.
• Issue F-1 and J-1 travel signatures during peak times to ensure timely processing of student requests.
• Answer email from the general internationalservices@georgetown.edu and newinternational@georgetown.edu to contribute to group efforts to support students when their caseload-specific advisor is not available.
University Leadership Liaison

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree - preference for Master's degree
• 3-5 years of experience required [note: consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and work experience]
• High-level F-1/J-1 immigration and compliance experience as a DSO or ARO
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency to comply with the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security ARO/DSO requirements
• Significant management experience or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience working with higher education enterprise resource planning systems - such as Banner, ISSM - as well as the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
• Evidence of efficient and effective problem-solving and program management skills
• Ability to express self clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications
• Current DSO or ARO designation.
• Specific experience with Georgetown systems
• Proficiency in one or more foreign languages
• Study, employment, or residence in another country or extensive travel outside the United States
• Employment in an educational institution similar to Georgetown
