What you can accomplish in the role

Contribute to the achievement of project and research outcomes within the Isotropics Geochemistry Laboratory, which includes undertaking analytical work on rock and water samples. Become proficient in a wide array of analytical techniques in the areas of trace element and isotope geochemistry.

Deliver high-quality customer... service, ensuring all interactions are professional, customer-focused and achieve measurable outcomes.

What you can bring to the role

You’ll have relevant degree qualifications or extensive research experience including a demonstrated knowledge of geochemistry, with an understanding of geology or ore deposit formation and the operation of mass spectrometers an advantage.

Working under broad supervision, you will have the ability to prioritise and meet competing deadlines, exercising judgement and initiative.

ABOUT THE ROLE

KEY REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS

With a degree qualification in business, finance or commerce, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training and/or experience, you bring previous experience in a financial administration role with a proven ability to interpret, analyse and apply relevant legislation, policies and procedures. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you find it easy to develop and maintain highly effective working relationships with a demonstrated ability to show sensitivity when consulting and liaising with students and staff. You bring high attention to detail and accuracy along with experience in using a variety of software packages including the Microsoft Office suite and other student and learning-related applications.

ABOUT TROPWATER

The Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research (TropWATER) is an amalgamation of aquatic expertise from across James Cook University. It brings together over 150 research and support staff and over 100 post-graduate students into one cohesive research... group. TropWATER provides a unique opportunity for multidisciplinary research activities by integrating JCU’s aquatic expertise into one unit, which covers the full spectrum of freshwater, estuarine and marine waters, with expertise from ecology, water quality, hydrology, engineering, physics, oceanography, modelling and resource economics.

POSITION OVERVIEW
• Translating complex scientific concepts into engaging and accessible written content for research communications, reports, written and video content, web pages, and social media in alignment with University brand requirements, ensuring information is accurate and correct, and meets stakeholder requirements.
• Delivering engaging research-focused internal and external communications and activities aligned to the Research Communications Strategy, in close collaboration with the Research Communications Manager.
• Supporting coordination of events, engagements, workshops, and seminars that highlight TropWATER’s research benefits, achievements and activities in the wider community.
• Supporting increased engagement with JCU’s research portfolio by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within TropWATER, with the JCU research community, and the Marketing, Future Students and Admissions Directorate, as well as stakeholders and community.

WHAT YOU CAN BRING TO THE ROLE
• Qualifications and experience within marketing, communications, media or relevant discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in content creation including feature writing, writing for web and social media.
• Demonstrated experience in science or copywriting, with the ability to distil research findings into compelling narratives.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills with proven experience in developing and managing key stakeholder relationships in a distributed work environment.
