ABOUT TROPWATER

The Centre for Tropical Water and Aquatic Ecosystem Research (TropWATER) is an amalgamation of aquatic expertise from across James Cook University. Join our dynamic team who provides critical support monitoring and maintaining hardware and software for the University. The Senior Digital Systems Engineer provides specialist technical expertise to manage and support JCU’s enterprise server and storage platforms with a focus on automation and innovation, to ensure the delivery of optimal business outcomes for the University. You'll play a crucial role to... keep the systems running by monitoring and maintaining HPC and research hardware, software and virtual systems. Delivering specialist technical support resolve highly complex server and storage issues, including liaising with major vendors, ensuring stakeholder needs are met and high levels of satisfaction are achieved. In this role you will manage complex IT infrastructure projects in accordance with JCU’s project management methodology, contributing to the continual improvement of the service delivery by identifying potential process, automation, and technology strategy improvements.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

• Degree qualification in Information Technology or related discipline with relevant experience.

• Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing enterprise Linux, Windows, and VMware server systems, ideally using automation tools and containerisation, in large complex enterprise environments.

• Demonstrated high-level verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

• Significant organisational, problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet competing deadlines in a complex work environment.

• A demonstrated capacity for creating and maintaining high quality documentation as well as contributing to the provisioning of timely, comprehensive reports.
