The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation funds stipend-based archival internships each year to current graduate and undergraduate students in the fields of archives management, library science, museum studies, history/public history, or digital media.

Internships are part time (16 hours per week) and are offered during Winter-Spring (December 15-May 15), Spring-Summer (May 15-August 15), and Summer-Fall (August 15-December 15). Internships are available to United States citizens or legal residents who have a Social Security number.

JFK Cafe Assistant Manager: This is a full time position reporting to the JFK Café Manager and the Director of Catering Services/Program Manager for Gourmet Caterers, Inc. at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Employees are required to find their own transportation to and from work and any events they might work. The Assistant Manager will represent “the face of Gourmet Caterers” at the JFK Library and will be expected to present him/herself in such a manner at all times.

This job requires the ability to perform the following:

• Duties and Responsibilities: To support the Café Manager in the day to day operation of the JFK Café, including:
• Oversee Café food production as well as applicable in-house catering.
• Maintain compliance with Board of Health Regulations. Manage cleaning schedules to meet the highest standards of sanitation common to the food service industry. Keep all equipment sanitary and in proper working condition. Keep ServSafe Certification current.
• Train and manage Café employees with the assistance of the Cafe and the Program Manager. Participate in the reviews for all Café staff. Coach, counsel and discipline employees as needed.
• Maintain employee files regarding vacation, absence, tardiness, evaluations, accident reports.
• Manage labor costs. Write and maintain the weekly schedule as well as a weekly payroll cost spreadsheet. Submit all time sheets for payroll to HR Dept weekly.
• Manage food costs. Order, receive and maintain all product inventories with efficient price structures and minimal waste. Coordinate all products from GCI, including product transfer sheets when applicable.
• Submit monthly inventories in a timely manner on the determined fiscal dates.
• Keep communications current with GCI management. Meet regularly with the Café Manager and Program Manager as well as additional Gourmet management as appropriate.
• Clearly understand and implement the Emergency Procedures for the John F. Kennedy Library & Museum when required.
• Work within the constraints of GCI’s federal contract with the National Archives and Records Administration for Café, Event Catering and Event Services at the John F. Kennedy Library & Museum. Maintain Standards of Conduct as set forth in the contract.
• Become knowledgeable of the Toast System and use it as a tool to anticipate busy and slow fluctuations for food ordering and staffing.
• Adhere to cash management policies and ensure that all employees are in compliance. Make bank deposits on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, or as requested by management.
• Forward all paperwork to GCI at least three times per week, including: Register tapes, deposit slips and any vendor invoices, etc.
• Assist with the development of innovative, seasonal menus
• Perform all duties as instructed by the JFK Café Manager, JFK Program Manager and the GCI Executive Committee, and work on special projects as assigned
