Position Summary...

This position is responsible for developing new sales opportunities for Kawasaki’s Government and Fleet business with Motorcycles, ATVs, Side x Side vehicles and Jet Ski watercraft.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serves as corporate liaison for Dealers, Federal, State, City, County, University and Fleet customers.
• Oversees the entire bid process of all Government and Fleet bid orders. This includes processing and fulfillment of all bid orders, communications with the Government and Fleet Manager, Regional Sales Directors, District Managers, Dealers and Kawasaki to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Management of Government and Fleet customer inquiries from Kawasaki.com.
• Management of Salesforce customer base and sales lead opportunities with sales calls and email communication.
• Management of GovSpend and other Government bid websites for sales opportunities.
• Works closely with the Kawasaki dealer network for ongoing training and sales opportunities.
• Government and Fleet quarterly and yearly sales forecasting.
• Awareness of market conditions, compile competitive product information, and industry trends.
• Conducts Teams presentations with Dealers, Government customers, and Fleet customers.
• Works closely with Kawasaki Product Planning, Operations, and Parts and Accessories department managers to ensure all foreseeable trends and future bids are reported monthly.
• Attends key Government and Fleet industry trade shows while acquiring upcoming bid information and developing new business contacts in various related new growth bid markets.
• Provides transportation solutions to Government and Fleet customers.
• Prepares sales and activity reports, presentations, and additional information as needed.
• Approximate travel required: 20%

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) or four-year college equivalent is required; minimum five years related experience in a Government and Fleet sales environment; or equivalent.

The Engine Division of Kawasaki Motors Corp, headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI has an immediate opening for a Application Engineer based in Grand Rapids, MI.

As an Application Engineer, you are responsible... for coordinating new product development between Kawasaki Motors Corp., USA and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

Responsibilities:
• Contact, communicate with and/or visit assigned OEMs for establishing new engine specifications or revision of existing engine specification for use in OEM applications, considering product development and production lead-time.
• Create & communicate New Specification Requests per OEM needs to the OEM Sales Manager.
• Communicate specifics of OEM requests for new component development within Kawasaki to evaluate and be able to explain OEM desired direction and how this may fit into Kawasaki’s broader future.
• Plan for, schedule and receive new applications and mufflers for testing, recording all necessary documentation.
• Request new muffler regulatory confirmation testing through the Research & Development Test Group. Communicate priority, follow progress, review results, and communicate to OEMs.
• Review muffler regulatory testing procedures and suggest improvements.
• Prepare engines and applications for testing; confirming fluid levels, installing instrumentation, etc.
• Conduct engine and application testing under various load and ambient conditions to best quantify the interactions in standard and nonstandard applications.
• Direct matching check testing of Kawasaki engines in new applications. Identify potential issues that may affect engine performance in the installation and identify possible solutions.
• Review engine/application test data and prepare test reports integrating test results and documentation.
• Prepare tested applications for return shipment (drain fluids, package, etc.)
• Review current procedures and reports to identify opportunities for improvement. Upon group review, update procedures and report formats as agreed.
• Receive and log change communications to OEMs. Review and correct as needed, distribute to OEM’s, explaining which engines are affected and the implications to their products.
• Research, understand current test methods and test equipment and seek out new methods for improvement.
• Thoroughly study current and proposed test equipment (hardware & software) and functionality to maximize efficiency.
• Lead projects to provide technical assistance for Marketing information or displays.
• Represent Kawasaki at OEM dealer shows and trade shows. May be asked to present new products and highlight features.
• Ensure that lab work is conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
• Travel up to 30%.

Education and Experience:
• A bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• 8+ years’ experience in the engineering field, a good understanding of internal combustion engines.
• Possess people skills necessary to work with and present to a variety of different groups of both technical and nontechnical backgrounds.
• Good listening skills, able to talk through problems and technology gaps, then able to troubleshoot the root cause.
• An understanding of vehicle controller communication (J1939) would be preferred. Experience with CANalyzer or similar CAN analysis tools is a plus.
• Practice excellent coordination & multitasking skills: The Applications Engineer will need to be able to coordinate several projects at one time.
• Able to maintain a high level of independence.
