Description
The Kentucky Department of Tourism (KDT) is responsible for promoting the Commonwealth as a tourism destination to both domestic and international markets. The Tourism Marketing Specialist II will support the department’s communications team.
KDT markets and promotes Kentucky through a variety of resources: advertising, earned media and public relations, cultural heritage marketing, international marketing, offering tourism development incentives, providing research for our partners, website development and more. If you enjoy working with the public in a fast-paced environment, KDT is a great place to work.
The Tourism Marketing Specialist II responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Writing content for web and social use
• Developing itineraries, and coordinating and facilitating media familiarization (FAM) trips
• Researching and pulling media lists
• Facilitating media requests for information and images
• Maintaining a contact management system
• Maintaining KDT’s "What’s New in KY" and "What’s New in KY Bourbon" documents
• Updating media kit and other media materials
• Collecting, filing and distributing media clips
• Gathering content/video/images as needed to support social media efforts
Preferred Skills:
• News or press release writing experience
• Experience with Associated Press (AP) Style
• Detail oriented
• Web experience
• Social media experience
• Self-starter
• Has good news sense
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of experience in marketing, advertising sales, copy writing, or promotional sales.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in marketing, advertising sales, and/or copy writing or promotional sales will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year for year basis. Prior military experience will only substitute if the individual received an honorable discharge, discharge under honorable conditions, or a general discharge.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work typically involves extensive contact with the public. Travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
