Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Lifts decedents on to and off of fixed autopsytables to gurneys. Prepares appropriate instruments for conducting a medicolegal autopsy. • Assists forensic personnel in photographing of wounds, injuries and distinguishing body characteristics.
• Assists in the collection of trace evidence and in the maintenance of the chain of custody of all evidencecollected. Ensures that indicated x-rays are taken and developed, either by operating available equipment ornotifying appropriate personnel. Assists in dissecting the body, including evisceration and the removal of thebrain and spinal cord when indicated. Assists with proper collection and storage of body fluids for chemicaltests, the retrieval of appropriate tissues for specific tests and the removal of foreign bodies and materialfor evidentiary purposes with maintenance of chain of custody and delivery to law enforcement officials andother proper authorities.
• Cleans and restores body to its former state of integrity for release, disposes of tissues according toestablished procedures, and collects and stores tissues in fixed or fresh condition, as appropriate. Cleansautopsy suite and autopsy instruments making sure they are in proper working order after completion of themedicolegal autopsy. Ensures maintenance of an adequate stock of necessary equipment and supplies forconducting medicology autopsies. Adheres to standard universal precautions regarding body fluids and biologicmaterials. Maintains autopsy suite and storage areas (to include stock room) in a neat and safe condition.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of experience as an autopsy technician, licensed embalmer, sworn law enforcement officer, certified coroner, or deputy coroner.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Certification as a radiological technician, medical laboratory technologist, or an operating room technician, or licensure as a practical nurse or registered nurse will substitute for the required experience. Certification as an emergency medical technician supplemented by four years experience will substitute for the required experience. A bachelor's degree in a biological science or criminal justice will substitute for the one year of required experience.

• May perform other physical efforts in assisting youth with recreational and work related projects.
• This position is deemed essential and has been designated for mandatory operations by the AppointingAuthority; therefore, the incumbent is not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave.
• May be required to work overtime and any shift as needed and directed.
• Required to successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy; which entails two weekson the job training, four weeks virtual training, and one week ACT (Aikido Certified Training) at the academytraining location (Louisville, Kentucky). Overnight lodging and travel is required for the ACT and provided bythe department.

This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected toperform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrateleadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Maintains custody and control of juveniles in a custodial security setting. At beginning level,supervises and monitors activities of DJJ juveniles; assists juveniles in interpersonal skill development.Escorts juveniles between various institutional areas. Takes appropriate action during emergencies to preventescapes and suppress disorder.
• Maintains shift logs on juvenile's activities and notifies supervisors of issues; completes incidentreports as needed; assists juveniles in complaint procedures. Performs counts and/or wellness checks forjuveniles. Monitors individuals entering and leaving institutional grounds. Maintains approved physicalrestraint technique certifications as required by DJJ policies.
• Provides support services for routine maintenance, etc.; checks premises and ensures safety ofjuveniles; attends staff meetings, case conferences and trainings.
• Should be able to exert physical effort in the proper restraint of residents based on behavior.
• May perform other physical efforts in assisting youth with recreational and work related projects.
• This position is deemed essential and has been designated for mandatory operations by the AppointingAuthority; therefore, the incumbent is not eligible for Adverse Weather Leave.
• May be required to work overtime and any shift as needed and directed.
• Required to successfully complete the Department of Juvenile Justice Training Academy; which entails two weekson the job training, four weeks virtual training, and one week ACT (Aikido Certified Training) at the academytraining location (Louisville, Kentucky). Overnight lodging and travel is required for the ACT and provided bythe department.
