Job Summary/Description:

The Gray Media stations that cover the state of Missouri are looking for an aggressive MMJ to cover politics at a growing Jeff City bureau. You would do daily coverage for the five Gray stations across Missouri. We are looking for the right person who can tell impactful stories that hold our elected officials and state agencies accountable. Must be able to show how these stories effect our viewers through personalization. Will also provide enterprise reporting of state and federal candidates, campaigns and issues during elections. This role produces not only enterprise but investigative reporting and breaking news. Must live in Jeff City, MO, just minutes away from the Lake of the Ozarks and a short drive from KC and St. Louis.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

• Works with the bureau chief to determine, plan and staff all important stories of state-wide important
• Collaborates with all stations daily to communicate coverage plans and newscast goals
• Must be able to go live when necessary
• Must have excellent news judgment and journalism ethics.
• Must have strong writing, storytelling and reporting skills
• Must have ability to shoot and edit your own stories
• Must be able to develop and maintain a network of sources and experts at all state agencies and with all political parties
• Must have ability, during election years, to travel throughout the state with candidates for races selected in collaboration with the supervising news director
• Understand open records laws and the ability to file regular requests (at least weekly), as well as manage and oversee them
• Must be organized and well-versed in keeping track of legislation and quickly be able to summarize and explain it to viewers in a conversational manner
• Be able to enterprise daily story ideas with state-wide interest even when lawmakers aren’t in session
• Must have ability to be a digital first MMJ. Be able to stream news conferences for all involved stations, report in breaking news, quickly web and social stories daily; duties will including a weekly digital show
• Must be willing to mentor interns
• Must be willing to work different shifts and longer hours based on legislative sessions, state coverage and breaking news
• Follow all clothing and appearance guidelines as set by the supervising news director
• Perform other job duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Must be 18 years-old or older
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism or related field
• Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in on-air television news reporting including in-depth long-form reporting, investigations and/or political reporting
• Basic experience with newsroom computer systems is preferred (ENPS)
• Candidates must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and MVR check
• Must have unrestricted work authorization in the United States

Job Summary/Description:

KY3, the dominant number one station in the Ozarks is looking for a senior reporter. This is NOT an entry-level MMJ position. We are looking for someone with at least three years' experience in television news who is passionate about reporting. We love to tell stories that affect change in our community and would love to have a creative storyteller on board. The successful candidate will be curious about everything and have a strong desire to "get to the bottom" of every assigned or enterprise story. Our station has a long legacy of great on-air talent, and we need someone to help us maintain our position as a strong news station. Must be able to ask tough questions and confront people as needed. Should also desire to be part of a mentor program, professional training, and feedback.

Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

• Will dig into complex and important issues
• Enterprise hard news safety and security stories daily
• Interview news subjects to determine facts and credibility
• Be able to present exciting live reports with current technology
• Enterprise, send, and follow up on FOIA/Sunshine requests to local, state, and federal agencies
• Willingness to learn and use daily: newsroom software, digital (including social media and web), Grass Valley editing equipment, and, if/when necessary, professional Sony cameras
• Willing to go out on breaking news and into severe weather situations
• Develop numerous sources within the community to learn about important issues
• Work with anchors EPs and news director on targeted special reports each month
• Develop new and additional creative content specifically for digital, boldly advance the brand across those platforms
• Demonstrate sound news judgment, and collaborate with others to present the story in the best way
• Attend/host/speak at community service, schools, and community events; meet and greet viewers when needed

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in journalism or related field is preferred.
• Must have a proven track record of successful television stories. Experience with investigative stories is required.
• Must have the ability to use web and social media to promote stories, drive engagement, find sources and stories, research stories, and do Facebook live reports with additional information on investigative stories
• At least 3 years of experience preferred as MMJ or reporter
• Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems online
• Be able to write in a clear, concise, conversational manner
• Possess excellent interview and conversational writing skills
• Excellent live reporting skills and strong on-camera presentation skills
