PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Custodians serve a critical function to the University in that they are primarily responsible for keeping the University clean so that it is an attractive place or students, staff, faculty, stakeholders, donors, and other visitors.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Our custodians maintain building interiors, ensuring cleanliness, orderliness, and attractive conditions are maintained in assigned areas according to set tasks and frequencies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings, windows, tile, fixtures, equipment, and floors. Vacuums, dusts, and polishes specific areas and/or furnishings. Sanitizes and disinfects bathroom areas.
• Gathers and transports refuse from assigned areas to appropriate disposal locations.
• Inspects physical condition of assigned areas; submits requests to appropriate personnel regarding repairs, replacements, furnishings, and relocations of equipment.
• Requests cleaning material and supplies from designated areas; mixes cleaning solutions according to specifications, loads and transports service cart with required materials and supplies to designated work areas.
• Operates standard cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, and mops.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
• High school diploma
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
• Flexibility to work alone or on a team.
• General knowledge of common cleaning practices and standards; exposure to common cleaning chemicals daily.
• Ability to prioritize, manage time, and coordinate multiple assignments.
• Ability to read and understand work orders and instructions for proper use of equipment and chemical solutions.
• Good interpersonal skills for interactions with students, staff, faculty, and stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in environments where the temperature may be cold or hot.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to continuously stand or walk.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The School of Nursing at KSU serves all students to provide seamless, robust, focused, and comprehensive educational support. The Nursing Coordinator of Advising & Recruitment will join a team of outstanding individuals with diverse professional and personal backgrounds in the School of Nursing who form a high-functioning community of practice. The Nursing Coordinator of Advising & Recruitment will provide personalized, one-on-one support in navigating the road to academic success, and staying on track toward degree completion. Additionally, the Nursing Coordinator of Advising & Recruitment will assist with retention programming efforts, outreach, recruitment, and engagement.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Serves as the liaison between the university, its students and alumni, and potential employers on a state, regional, national, and international scale.
• Serves as nursing adviser and interfaces with representatives of industrial, governmental, and educational employers to assist in the most effective use of career services efforts. Also supports the marketing of other Schools of Nursing and departmental efforts.
• Reviews and supervises the on-campus recruitment and interviewing processes as well as resume referral and job-listing services for current students as well as alumni. Coordinates and assist with supervising staff professional development activities and training, including travel for professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences.
• Closely coordinates communication with deans, department chairs, and other faculty to ensure that the School of Nursing is meeting the needs and desires of the academic colleges and departments, within the limitations imposed by the size of the staff and financial support provided by the university.
• Constantly monitors, analyzes, and evaluates the current scope of services offered through the School of Nursing and plans, implements, and directs new programs under the dean of student development and services and in coordination with other directors of student services and student activities efforts.
• Provides career advising expertise to nurse students and alumni regarding the job-search process, interviewing, resumes, letter writing, and all other facets of career planning.
• Conduct personalized academic advising meetings to assist nursing students with course selection and graduation plans tailored to their academic interests and goals.
• Assist with the selection of majors and the fulfillment of the curriculum requirements.
• Help students gain an understanding of the School of Nursing requirements.
• Assist with course selection and registration.
• Monitor academic progress.
• Assist with transition issues as needed and provide referrals to campus resources.
• Assist with retention programming efforts.
• Act as a resource for campus constituencies and committees whose responsibilities relate to student retention and, as appropriate, take a leadership role in retention initiatives.
• Represent the School of Nursing and/or the Center for Student Success at open houses, admission events, and other functions as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master's degree (preferred)
• 1-2 years experience working in Higher Education
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
• Superior listening and critical thinking skills and the ability to multi-task
• Experience with retention data collection and reporting
• Working knowledge of postsecondary academic advising and retention strategies
• Candidates should have the ability to become knowledgeable of the range of varied student services available, enrollment services, academic policies, requirements, and procedures of Kentucky State University
• Strong interpersonal/human relations skills essential
• Ability to initiate and maintain professional relationships with diverse groups, and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student population including low-income, first-generation, students of color, disabled, underrepresented, older and non-traditional, and international students
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication
