We’re looking for a highly-organized and results-driven Event Planner to join our team, working within our Event Services group who provide event management & operations as-a-service for open source projects and foundations hosted here at the LF. This position reports to an Event Manager, and will own various logistical responsibilities while collaborating as part of a larger tea, along with fully own the successful production and delivery of some smaller events.
The ideal candidate must be an event professional with a minimum of 4 years events experience, strong strategic and tactical skills, and the ability to successfully execute events and programs, both on their own and with a team.
The position requires overnight and weekend travel to events both domestically and internationally (~30%).
What You Will Work On
• Plan, manage and successfully deliver B2B events and conferences, both wholly and as part of a larger team. This includes in-person, virtual, and hybrid events around the world.

• Work with the project ‘clients’ and stakeholders (project Executive Directors and staff, project board, marketing and technical committees, and internal cross-functional teams) to drive event strategy and successful execution, meeting goals and objectives. The Event Manager is responsible for managing events from conception to completion, including developing and implementing event strategies mapping to each project and event’s specific goals and objectives, working closely with external stakeholders, sponsors, and third-party vendors. Events include board meetings, conferences, and tradeshows.
The ideal candidate must be an event professional with a minimum of 7 years events experience and 2 years people management experience, strong strategic and tactical skills, and the ability to successfully execute events and programs, both on their own and with a team.
This position requires overnight and weekend travel to events both domestically and internationally (~30%).
What You Will Work On
• Work with the project ‘clients’ and stakeholders (project Executive Directors and staff, project board, marketing and technical committees, and internal cross-functional teams) to drive event strategy and successful execution, meeting goals and objectives. Requires strong project management skills and the ability to build consensus across groups of stakeholders.
• Plan, execute and manage all aspects of events and conferences including RFP/venue sourcing, contract review and negotiation, space planning, food and beverage, AV, production, exhibit design, internet, transportation, offsite reception coordination, registration, and more.
• Create event budgets, project plans, timelines, and to-do lists, ensuring clear communication with stakeholders and team members before, during, and after the planning process for seamless execution.
• Work closely with internal cross-functional teams, community planning committees, and clients for the successful execution of events and to meet event goals and objectives.
• Manage onsite execution of events, both domestic and international
• Manage tradeshow participation for internal clients including confirming sponsorship levels, finalizing booth details, placing orders, staffing, ordering marketing materials and swag, etc.
• Own and manage individual event budgets, with a focus on keeping events at or under budget, and finding ways to maximize event spend. Responsible for reconciling event expenses and revenue in a timely manner post-event.
• Manage external vendor relationships, inclusive of negotiating budgets and contracts
• Directly manage two event planners/coordinators, with the ability to guide, coach, and mentor to grow their own careers
• Copywriting and proofreading of event content and materials including website, signage, conference guide, email newsletters, and event services client pitches
Qualifications
• BS/BA degree and minimum 7+ years of event management experience with hands-on experience producing industry leading, multi-faceted events with multiple touch points, and minimum 2+ years managing B2B conferences as a corporate planner
• Previous experience with the full responsibility of successfully executing a B2B conference with a minimum of 500 attendees with multiple tracks and multiple days
• Event management without using an outside agency or DMC
• Previous experience working with stakeholders/clients to produce events
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in people management
• Management of a hybrid event, including a virtual platform/component
• Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling and communication
• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and new challenges
• Experience interacting with a wide range of clients - from C-level executives to technical programmers
• Adept at working on multiple projects and with multiple stakeholders at once, and able to prioritize and make the best use of time

Job Description
We are looking for a program manager to join our Standards and Specifications team. In this role, you will help guide and support the success of standards and specifications projects through strategic analysis and project management. This is an individual contributor role, with a heavy emphasis on operational excellence and business management. In this role, you will partner heavily with stakeholders across internal and external organizations.
The Linux Foundation’s Standards and Specifications team work at the intersection of open source and standardization, helping projects adopt modern, developer/implementer friendly practices while adhering to high levels of due process and IPR management. Our team are experts in the unique needs and concerns of specification development, working with communities to reach their goals under a vendor neutral home.
This position is a remote, virtual, position and reports to the VP of Standards. In a typical year, overnight and weekend travel to events both domestically and internationally (approximately 1-4 times per year) will be required. This role will likely require air travel.

Core Responsibilities
Standards Program Manager responsibilities spread across strategic, operational, and tactical areas:
Strategic
• Develop an operational, results-driven plan from common themes and needs brought forward by the Governing Board, Steering Committee, Technical Steering Committee, and project membership.
• Serve as a strategic partner to the project’s Executive Director or Chairperson and other project leaders.
• Prioritize project operational needs and escalate concerns as necessary to the appropriate responsible parties.
• Advise on open standards, open source, and Linux Foundation best practices, and help projects adopt best practices and guidelines pragmatically.
• Facilitate forward momentum on the project’s scope and vision by managing discussions and expectations with project working groups, members, and other stakeholders.
Operational
• Be the Glue — serve the project as a center of activity and communication, ensuring forward, timely progress on strategic goals through increased communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Be the Resource — be the project’s resident expert on matters of governance and process as it pertains to standardization, and help with new initiatives, version releases, and other efforts that move the project forward.
• Be the Planner — help the project maintain accurate project plans, with realistic work-back and resourcing plans to get the job done.
Tactical
• Handle back-end operations for the project, managing tasks such as invoice approvals, collecting IP agreements, contracting, new member management, and more.
• Oversee the specification advancement process, handling exceptions, notices, and review processes as needed or appropriate.
• Handle, or oversee the handling of, project administration tasks such as implementation of LFX tooling, creation and distribution of meeting materials, and roster management.
• Drive the annual budgeting process and complete monthly audits and reporting for the project in tandem with Finance.
Desired Experience
Required
• 5+ years proven experience in a program management role, focused on aligning multiple external and internal organizations and stakeholders.
• Very strong project management, written, and oral communication skills - you can clearly develop and articulate plans through written documentation and meeting presentations.
• Very strong time management skills - you manage your time wisely, and make good judgements on the time and effort necessary to complete tasks.
• High executive function - you are able to balance competing priorities and are comfortable working in ambiguous situations.
• Sound judgment - you how to work collaboratively across functions such as Marketing, Public Relations, Legal, and Finance, and when to bring in additional people and resources.
• High emotional intelligence - you remain professional and focused working with a diverse and dynamic community.
• The ability to work globally, taking meetings across multiple time zones as necessary.
