For the NWO Gravitation Project ‘New Science of Mental Disorders’, we are looking for a researcher with an interest in research in a patient population, with strong communication and organizational kills.

The network approach to psychopathology defines mental illness as a system of dynamically interacting variables (e.g., symptoms). We are planning a large-scale study in patients with diverse mental disorders, in which we will obtain time-series data of psychopathology-relevant variables in daily life.
Functieomschrijving

Background:

The NWO Gravitation Project “New Science of Mental Disorders” is a 10-year research program, in which researchers from different fields (e.g., data science, clinical psychology) from different Dutch universities collaborate (www.nsmd.eu). The project is divided into six teams.

The currently advertised position is embedded in ‘team network’. This team is responsible for setting up a large-scale study in a sample of... patients with diverse diagnoses of a mental disorder. We will obtain time-series data of psychopathology-relevant variables, such as mood, craving, social circumstances, and sleep, in daily life. Participants will record data via a smartphone app for a period of six weeks. Research experience is an advantage for this job, but is not strictly required. The position is ideal for people who like the practical aspects of running a research study.

Challenges and tasks:
• In collaboration with team network, you will contribute to the collection of time-series data in patients with diverse mental disorders. The groundwork has already been done, including ethical approval and setting up collaborations with mental health clinics, as well as developing the set of variables to be included in the measurement protocol.
• Communication with participating mental health clinics and researchers.
• Informing and assisting study participants.
• Data collection administration.

Embedding:

Maastricht University is the leading institution of the Gravitation project ‘New Science of Mental Disorders’ (NSMD; www.nsmd.eu), heading an interdisciplinary team with staff members of Dutch universities, divided over 6 teams. This position is embedded in team network of NSMD, and will be based at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience (FPN).

Functie-eisen
• Fluent in Dutch and English.
• A master’s degree in psychology, health sciences, or a related field.
• Perseverant and creative problem solver.
• Computer-literate, for example: Excel, Wordpress, and quick to learn new software.
• Excellent communication and organization skills.
• Willing to travel in the Netherlands (travel costs will be reimbursed).
