Your Impact
At Hearst Magazines Digital Media you will join a diverse, supportive community of creatives building new experiences in digital media. You will have the opportunity to work with an end-to-end product design team that includes visual design, user experience, user research, prototyping, and presentation/interaction coding for our proprietary media platform. Our designers contribute to an end-to-end design process that allows them to understand and own their work. You will work with diverse editorial brands such as ELLE, Cosmopolitan, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Runner’s World, Esquire, House Beautiful, and more.
Project Context
We are the product design team that creates the content management system that powers all of Hearst Magazines’ websites.
We are looking for a Product Designer to help support and build custom features for the Oprah Daily and Alta brands. You will be a part of our end-to-end product design team, working closely with the product and engineering teams that will support these two brands.
You will become familiar with the content they create, and help us discover, design, launch, and validate new and innovative features for their sites.
Responsibilities
• Partner with senior team members on feature design for our media platform
• Learn our front end design system and work in the development environment to implement your own design work
• Learn design research skills including user interviews, usability testing, and design thinking methods
• Iterate quickly and communicate design ideas across teams, while being receptive to constructive feedback

• An expert eye for visual design
• Portfolio of design work showcasing your design approach, learnings and skills
• Familiarity with contemporary digital product design tools and technologies. This could include Figma, Sketch, Invision, Framer, HTML, CSS, JS, and Git
• You have knowledge of accessibility standards (Section 508 Refresh/WCAG 2.0 Level A and AA)—and/or an interest to learn more

The ideal editor can within minutes find the heart of the day’s news, pinpoint the key players in relation to our existing database of 3,100-plus profiles, and explain must-know information to aid distribution across all our platforms.
What You’ll Do
• Pitch and write explanatory articles that center celebrities, buzzworthy figures, or the real people portrayed in movies and on television to generate audience traction, primarily for Biography.com and all its platforms
• Pitch and write new profiles about cultural and historical figures that meet Biography.com’s coverage criteria to best serve our audience and update existing profiles, as needed
• Enhance your work by incorporating existing content and utilizing SEO best practices
• Working with freelance contributors, manage the team’s external fact-checking needs
• Use site analytics and SEO to constantly hone story angles, breadth, the content creation process, and display copy to reach team goals
• Keep a pulse on daily news, plus track upcoming cultural events and releases to spot coverage opportunities
• Work with the Biography.com Deputy Editor and fellow editorial team to hit all relevant metrics and goals
• Demonstrate an interest in sharpening your editing skills to eventually begin working with freelance writers, as assigned

• Have some experience editing other writers, or an interest in learning
