Position Summary

The mine utility serves as a resource on either day or night shift capable of operating multiple pieces of mining equipment and supporting mine development projects. Employees must be available for either shift. Employee is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Mandatory Minimum Standards Required, within his/her sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, waste water permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
• Must be competent in the safe and efficient operation of the following:

1. Driving of 40 ton class haul truck by making approximately 25 trips per day into and out of the underground mine (depending on haul distance and down time) to remove and dump tons of marble/rock.

2. Operation of Large Front End Loader (6 yard class), both loading trucks underground and feeding the crusher system on the surface as well as the hydraulic excavator/breaker hammer & motor grader, water truck, etc.

3. Must be trained to operate Crushing System – be able to start/stop the system and prefer individual to attend Smoke School and become certified.

4. Cross trains and proficiently learn to operate other mining equipment.
• Inspects work areas at start of shift for safe conditions and advises Mine Mechanics and/or Mine Supervisor of maintenance problems and performs minor repairs as needed.
• Recommends to Mine Supervisor measures to improve methods for increased efficiency of mine operations and assists in problem solving in all areas of the mine.
• Assists in training of new employees and will perform other duties as assigned.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills
• Must be computer literate – basic skills including signing onto and off of computer to check Huber e-mail frequently/routinely and to take online safety classes (SkillSoft-type classes) and to complete annual open enrollment benefit process.
• Must be able to don a self-rescuer during time of emergency and/or assist others in the same.
• Good mechanical aptitude and ability to operate all types of equipment.
• Must be able to perform mathematical calculations which include the following: multiplication, addition, percentages (can be accomplished with the use of a calculator or manually computed).

The Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety consists of four programs: the Coal Regulatory program, the Minerals Regulatory program, the Inactive Mine Reclamation program, and Mine Safety and Training program. The division is committed to balance the need for mineral resource production with protection of the public, environment and Colorado's natural resources. The mission of DRMS is to protect the public, miners and the environment during current mining operations, restore abandoned mines, and to ensure that all mined land is reclaimed to beneficial use.

This Mine Safety Training Program (MTSP) exists to implement and enforce CRS §24-4-101, §24-4-102, and §24-4-103 and the Coal Mine Health and Safety Rules and Regulations of the Coal Mine Board of Examiners (CMBE). The MTSP also to prevent accidents and save lives by protecting those exposed to hazards in and around mines. This is accomplished through educating and training new miners, inspecting mines and conducting safety audits, regulating the use of underground mining equipment, and certifying mining equipment. The MTSP also trains mine rescue teams and conducts mine rescue conferences and contests.
