The Director, Data Architecture is a senior member within the EIM team that is responsible for designing and evangelizing UVNV, Inc.’s data management framework. This supervisory role leads a team of Data Architects and Data Systems Solution Architects in the translation of business requirements into data standards, principles and solutions. Stakeholder engagement with cross-functional engineering teams and business leaders is key to successfully providing solutions that ensure the consistency, accuracy, availability and security of our data.
Your usual day of awesomeness includes:
• Owning and driving the data architecture efforts within EIM while ensuring compliance with standards and regulatory requirements.
• Owning the data architecture product.
• Leading the data architecture team by example, leveraging UVNV Inc. core values to establish credibility and optimize the team’s value.
• Management of the team’s performance.
• Ensuring team synergies between our internal development team, cross functional engineering/architecture teams, and our external supporting vendor.
• Developing significant knowledge of the enterprise data assets and data products and providing subject matter expertise on content for both current and future use of data.
• Providing leadership, oversight and development execution of the data architecture design and enterprise data models.
• Establish and enforce data representation, distribution, archiving and retention, protection and quality standards for our data platforms.
• Review changes to technical and business requirements and architectures - assessing their impacts on data systems, defining risks and developing mitigating courses of action.
• Ensuring the team maintains comprehensive documentation of data architecture, business glossaries and data dictionaries.
• Evaluation of new technologies to understand opportunities for simplification and innovation of our data architecture products - always striving for improved quality and customer satisfaction with our delivery.
• Sponsorship of continuous improvement through development of initiatives and experiments with innovative technologies.
• Oversight with guidance on the DataOps function of platform ownership, CI/CD, PR's, and delivery of data products to production
WHAT YOU BRING
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Statistics / Math or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years working experience with enterprise data warehousing, data management, business intelligence, modern architecture, and large-scale data solutions.
• 7+ years managing teams in the development of data systems and products.
• Proven experience in decomposing business requirements into technical design models.
• Significant knowledge in the areas of Reference Data, Data Quality, Metadata Management.
• Understanding of Taxonomies and Ontologies.
• Expertise working with AWS services (Lambda, S3, Glue, Aurora, Dynamo) and cloud data systems like Snowflake.
• Advance level understanding and execution of Security (IAM, Encryption, Access Controls).
• Experience with OLAP, columnar databases, MPP databases.
• Expertise Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Experienced with CI/CD (Git/Bit, CI/CD, Orchestration).
• Experience with languages for data manipulation and analysis like Python or R for data engineering and backend development.
• Strong knowledge of data privacy practices and laws (internationally).
• Experience inventing data solutions – not simply using packaged software.
