The Public Speaking Course Director will provide an orientation for
Public Speaking instructors each semester, conduct ongoing
professional teaching development sessions with instructors
throughout the semester, oversee the identification of all course
materials, continually update the Public Speaking curriculum and
Canvas course sites for use by all instructors, respond to
instructor inquiries, assist with student concerns, respond to
campus requests for public speaking training, and work with the
Department Chair on Public Speaking programmatic issues.
The person in this position will have the opportunity to serve as
the Public Speaking Course Director during the summer semester for
additional pay.
The Public Speaking Course Director is a standing member of the
Department’s Undergraduate Committee that makes recommendations to
the faculty regarding all aspects of the Communication major and
department programs that support undergraduate students.
In addition to serving as the COMM 1200 Public Speaking Course
Director, the person in this position will teach sections of Public
Speaking and/or courses that address department teaching needs in
one or more of our department emphasis areas: Health and Crisis
Communication; Identity, Diversity, and Communication;
Interpersonal and Family Communication; Mediated Communication;
Organizational Communication; and Political Communication.
We are interested in candidates who are passionate about Public
Speaking and the teaching of Public Speaking.

leadership and/or administration, or a related field by time of
appointment.
Candidates will be evaluated on the following factors:
• Administrative experience at the central office level
(superintendent, assistant superintendent, and other related
central office positions);
• Experience (or potential to be successful) coordinating
academic programs, including program planning, accreditation,
curriculum development, oversight, marketing, and recruitment;
• Experience (or potential to be successful) teaching, advising,
and mentoring graduate students in the PK12 Master’s program, EdS
program, and Graduate Certificate in Global Education and
Leadership; and
• Experience (or potential to be successful) working collegially
with individuals from diverse backgrounds and contributing to
inclusion, diversity, and equity initiatives within the Department
and University.
