MSNBC.com is an American news website owned by NBCUniversal News Group, a unit of the NBCUniversal Television Group division of NBCUniversal. It provides daily national and international news coverage, as well as political, entertainment, and business news. It also features in-depth analysis and commentary from a variety of writers and contributors, as well as video and audio content. The website also provides a live streaming video service and a searchable archive of articles. Additionally, MSNBC.com offers a wide range of interactive features, including podcasts, blogs, polls, and forums. It is the online counterpart to the NBC News network and is one of the most popular news websites in the United States.

However, 2015 marked a big shift in MSNBC’s programming. They also began to air Dateline Extra an extension to the popular NBC news show. The online portion of MSNBC still continues to operate today.ustv247.tvDuring the first three months of the campaign, MSNBC’s rating grew by an impressive 158%. The move also led MSNBC to top CNN in the television ratings for the first time since launching.

Microsoft took charge of the online element, namely a news website, and NBC the television element. The partnership was a straight 50/50 split between the two respective companies.ustv247.tvMSNBC is slightly unusual when compared to other similar news channels. This is because it was originally set up in 1996 as a partnership between Microsoft and General Electric’s NBC unit.

Job Description

NBC News and MSNBC Digital are seeking a Designer to join our growing Art and Photo Department. The designer will work closely with editors, reporters, and art directors to visualize our stories and brand on nbcnews.com, msnbc.com and our digital platforms.

This position is represented by the News Guild – NY CWA.

Responsibilities:
• Producing conceptual, photo-heavy illustrations with Photoshop and Illustrator for inclusion in stories on nbcnews.com, msnbc.com, and our social platforms
• Designing templates and graphics for our social platforms, newsletters, and video thumbnails
• Selecting and editing images for inclusion in stories published on nbcnews.com, msnbc.com, and our social platforms
• Managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Qualifications
• 2+ years of experience producing, editing and working in design
• Portfolio that demonstrates an eye for storytelling, photography, concept, composition, illustration, color and typography
• Some familiarity with design systems and designing for a brand at scale
• Able to work easily between multiple content and CMS types to publish work on deadline
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Figma
• Proven news judgment, high ethical standards and strong interpersonal skills
• Must be willing to work in New York, NY
• Must be able to provide a portfolio of work examples — if available, include a web address when you submit your resume

Job Description

Role Summary/Purpose: The Junior Publicist for MSNBC will assist the Vice President, Communications and Media Relations team. The role is a Wednesday to Sunday position to support the team with day-to-day activities managing publicity and communications for MSNBC's weekend programming.

Responsibilities
• Pitch show content and write press releases for weekend programming
• Act as point of contact between the executive and internal/external partners, press, and publicity team
• Day to day lead for media monitoring and daily clippings
• Assist team with coordinating various media requests to support MSNBC
• Assist team in managing the MSNBC Media Relations' social media account, including monitoring and drafting tweets
• Work and facilitate press events including press tours, award shows and special events
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with talent, producers, public relations agencies and representatives, agents, managers, production staff, media and programming executives in order to ensure maximum positive coverage for MSNBC programming
• Provide limited administrative duties for the VP, Communications, managing calendar, phones, contacts, travel and expenses
• Manage and update ongoing team lists, including press lists, requested trackers, messaging materials, team calendars and other office needs
• Manage multiple projects as assigned, including NBCU News Group related content and initiatives
• Note: This position will at times require late night and after-hours work.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations or related field preferred.
• 2 years of experience working in either public affairs or public relations at a media company or PR agency
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
