Summary

Builds, rebuilds, troubleshoots, repairs, tests, replaces and inspects locomotives, passenger railroad cars and components (diesel and MU) in accordance with Federal (AAR, FRA, DOT) and LIRR/MTA regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
• Inspect, repair, maintain and install various components, subsystems, and car bodies of rolling stock equipment, including, but not limited to, air-brake, doors, glazing, seats, truck, coupler and draft gear assemblies.
• Perform daily and periodic tests of air-brake systems as required by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).
• Perform daily and periodic mechanical inspections as required by the CFR.
• Performs scheduled and on demand passenger railroad car equipment maintenance tasks such as: (but not limited to) air brake tests; removing and replacing defective parts; repairs to and maintenance of floors, seats, windows, lights, toilets, coupler assemblies, car body components, HVAC systems, brake rigging, wheels and horns.
• Welding, painting and stenciling of numbers/letters on railroad passenger cars (diesel and MU).
• Utilize a variety of hand tools, power tools, specialty tools, and measuring instruments.
• Work sites may be located throughout the LIRR system which extends from Manhattan to Montauk.

Qualifications
• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent (GED or TASC) approved by a State’s Department of Education or recognized accredited organization.
• Must possess one of the following:
• A minimum of four years of documented mechanical experience;

• A combination of four years of full-time or part-time trade, vocational or military training schools in a mechanical discipline and documented work experience;

• Two of more years of railroad or transit railcar maintenance experience;

The Director of Operations, Bridges and Tunnels is responsible for shepherding the overall planning, management, and operation of one or more bridge and/or tunnel facilities. Assist in the management of Capital Improvement Projects, State of Good Repair (SGR) Bridge and Line Structure Maintenance and SGR Station Maintenance including: passenger stations, buildings, bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, plumbing/drainage etc. Assist to ensure all SGR Maintenance and Structural projects are on time, within budget, quality workmanship, and built safely in compliance with State, City, County Agencies, with minimal impact on Operations of Trains. Provide specific assistance to ensure that departmental standards, goals and objectives are optimized while remaining within the constraints of schedules and budgets.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
• Assisting with the management of limited resources to maintain and ensure LIRR infrastructure is in a state of good repair ensuring the safety of employees and customers. Assist in developing work plans and coordinating projects with force account personnel to progress high profile projects such as, State of Good Repair Bridge (SGR) program and Structural Renewal Projects (Large scale maintenance projects requiring project type documentation). Monitor, update and report on completion of same.

Qualifications

Level I
• Must possess a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or must be actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

Training Information
• Must successfully complete Metro-North’s Assistant Conductor training program. After successful completion of this training, individuals will work as Assistant Conductors for 12-16 months, before entering mandatory Conductor Promotional training.
• Must successfully complete Metro-North's Conductor Promotional training program and all licensing requirements as prescribed by CFR.
• Training involves classroom instruction, field training, on-the-job training and homework assignments. Must become qualified on the Rules of the Operating Department (Book of Rules Qualified) and pass all qualifying written and performance tests during the training program.

Rate of Pay

The starting rate for this position is $30.04/hour (70% of the full rate). The annual wage progression scale as an Assistant Conductor is as follows: Year 1=70% > Year 2=70% > Year 3=75% > Year 4=80% > Year 5=85% > Year 6=100%. The full 100% rate of pay is $42.92/hour.*

This rate has been established by the Collective Bargaining Unit and is non-negotiable.
• Upon completing the Conductor promotional step and obtaining the Conductor license, the wage progression will follow rates stated in the ACRE Conductor Bargaining Agreement.

OMNY Marketing Senior Manager will work within MTA Advertising & Promotions team to plan, manage and execute marketing activities to transition all MTA riders to using OMNY by 2025.

Responsibilities
