Position Purpose

Position Purposes

-To develop students' interest, abilities, talents and skills for artistic expression and creativity in the visual arts.

-To develop and nurture aesthetic understanding and appreciation by implementing diocesan approved curriculum; developing lesson plans; by modeling the skills necessary to perform assigned tasks; by providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and by providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Essential Functions

-Conduct ongoing assessment of student skills and learning in artistic techniques and expression, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.

-Conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.

-Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and artistic performance.

-Instruct pupils in safety and the proper care and use of tools and instruments used in art classes.

-Incorporate religious themes in Art lessons whenever appropriate.

-Evaluate each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports and report-card grades.

-Plan and present performance opportunities designed to exhibit pupils' artwork for the school and the community.

-Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in Art by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

-Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by school and diocesan procedures and applicable laws.

-Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.

-Ensure that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and diocesan policies.

-Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a safe and functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

-Coordinate with other school professional staff members, and actively participate in faculty meetings and on school committees.

-Select and request appropriate books, art education materials, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintain accurate inventory records.

Experience

Work Schedule

This is a part-time (unbenefitted) position. Work hours will not exceed 29 hours per week.

Instructional Expectations

The Resource Teacher's / Academic Interventionist's primary function is to assist students who are achieving below grade-level expectations in the areas of reading and/or mathematics. This person acts as an advocate for students who are in need of assistance in acquiring skills basic to academic success and social / emotional well-being. This teacher's responsibilities include assisting with all meetings of the school Teacher Assistance Team; and teaching, coaching, leading, and overseeing interventions designed by this Team. He or she must be familiar with planning and implementing Response to Intervention (RtI) and MTSS strategies and must be willing to assume a leadership role in assessing students and in designing programs and services to meet their individual needs. The Resource Teacher / Academic Interventionist must be an excellent communicator who is willing and able to involve parents and classroom teachers in supporting the modifications and accommodations designed to assist their children.

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Resource Teacher / Interventionist will:

Essential Functions

The responsibilities of the Resource Interventionist Teacher include, but are not limited to:

· leading and supporting the school's RtI (Response to Intervention) / MTSS initiatives.

· screening individual students to establish the appropriate reading and math placement for each child.

· providing small group or individual interventions to address identified student needs.

· providing professional development support in the implementation of research-based best practices.

· working with teachers and other educators to develop and implement plans that meet the needs of all students.

· maintaining frequent communication with the school principal and parents regarding student growth data and progress.

· regularly conferring with the principal regarding the needs of students and the continuous improvement of academic programs.

Work Schedule
