Compensation: $20 per hour
Work Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and occasional Fridays and Mondays, 9:15am - 12:15pm
About the position:
Are you interested in connecting the curiosity of the Greater Boston youth to the overwhelming beauty of nature all while educating them on scientific concepts? Would you like to facilitate outdoor activities in an inspiring, interactive, hands-on/minds-on, and culturally responsive way? The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is hiring capable, enthusiastic educators to lead school day Nature connection/environmental education field trips for Boston's 3rd and 4th graders in Emerald Necklace Parks.
Responsibilities:
• Work with Education staff to prepare and facilitate interactive nature connection/environmental education activities in Emerald Necklace parks
• Lead groups of 12-15 program participants in hands-on outdoor nature-based learning experiences in Emerald Necklace Parks
• Monitor program participants in all types of outdoor environments and ensure the safety and comfort of all participants
• Maintain a professional work environment, which includes equipment cleanup and storage of program gear and materials
• Provide basic first aid as needed
Qualifications:
Must Haves:
• 1 + years of experience in facilitating outdoor nature connection and environmental education activities for youth
• BA or BS in environmental education, environmental studies, biology, or earth science
• Ability to teach youth in an outdoor environment
• Interest in natural history, nature connection, environmental education, and science education
• Strong organizational, time management, oral, and written communication skills
• Experience in customer service or childcare and excellent interpersonal skills
• Skills and ability to work with diverse groups, exercise cultural humility, and implement best practices in inclusion
• Demonstrate a positive attitude while working on a team
• Reliable transportation to transport teaching materials to and from activity locations
• Proficiency in standard business software, such as Microsoft Office or G Suite
• Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check.
• Preference for a Bachelor's Degree in process or completed, preferably in education, environmental education, or related field, including formal or informal (certified naturalist, certified environmental educator, etc.).

The Wisconsin Director of Conservation Science is a leader in The Nature Conservancy’s Wisconsin Business Unit, responsible for integrating an evidence-based, scientific approach for priority applied conservation and policy work. They play a lead role in shaping and implementing TNC’s climate action and renewable energy approaches in Wisconsin and the Midwest. They work independently and on teams, with the discipline and perspective to apply expertise and resources selectively to advance top priorities. They ensure that work in Wisconsin integrates with TNC’s Midwest Division, North American Region and Global science initiatives.
The Wisconsin Director of Conservation Science defines science priorities for TNC in Wisconsin and leads and manages a team to support and improve ongoing projects. They establish the Conservancy as a conservation science partner in the State, serving as the principal science contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations, the academic community and the Wisconsin Board of Trustees.
The Director of Conservation Science develops key partnerships with public and private organizations to identify, resolve and communicate solutions and best practices to identified audiences. They develop scientific methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks that address natural system needs and engage local communities for conservation outcomes. They co-create and facilitate complex and innovative solutions, working with Conservancy colleagues, government agencies, non-profit organizations and community members to benefit natural systems and people.
The Wisconsin Director of Conservation Science uses a multi-discipline approach to problem solving and manages an ecology-focused Science and Innovation Team that interfaces with staff, contractors and partners in disciplines including physical, atmospheric and climate sciences, renewable energy, social sciences, economics, technology and engineering. Situated within a dynamic editorial and publishing environment that also includes Nature, Nature Geoscience, Nature Physics and Nature Communications, the successful candidate will report to the Chief Editor of the journal and will work both independently and closely with a team of editors. They will primarily be responsible for manuscript selection and overseeing the peer-review process, and will play an important role in determining the representation of the fields they handle for the journal. They will also be involved in the commissioning and editing of Review, Comment and News & Views articles. An interest in engaging with topical issues for the scientific community would be welcome.
This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating position. Broad scientific knowledge and training, excellent communication and literary skills, and a keen interest in the practice and dissemination of science are prerequisites. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the scientific community through visits to research groups and attendance at international conferences (both online and in person), therefore the successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and be willing to travel (when appropriate and required).
The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, allows for hybrid working and will be based in one of the following editorial offices: New York, Washington DC, Jersey City, Philadelphia, Berlin, Heidelberg; internal applicants in other journals editorial hub locations are also welcome to apply. Nature Astronomy () - a high-quality international online journal covering all areas of astronomy, astrophysics and the planetary sciences - is seeking an Associate or Senior Editor to join its editorial team on a permanent basis.
