Northern Kentucky University (NKU) invites nominations, applications, and expressions of interest in its search for a president with an ability to collaboratively envision the future of student success, a people-first philosophy, and the skills to build partnerships that advance the goals of the Northern Kentucky region.
The most recently established of Kentucky's eight public universities, NKU has transformed into a regional university of almost 16,000 students with just less than 2,000 faculty and staff. The university is deeply committed to advancing student outcomes for individuals representing a wide range of backgrounds, including first-generation students (40%); adult learners (40%); Pell-eligible students (22%); and underrepresented minorities (22%). Approximately 85% of its population are commuter students who are embedded in a vibrant region that spans the urban core of a major city to the rural Kentucky countryside. NKU's focus on student success has led to... significant increases in retention (first-to-second year retention was 77.5% in 2023) and graduation rates (six-year graduation rates hit an all-time high of 51.7% for the most recent cohort). The university has also strategically grown graduate and online enrollment in recent years. Conversely, the university has also faced challenges – the COVID-19 pandemic, a decline in undergraduate enrollment, and budget reductions. One position is will primarily contribute to our Computer Science and Data Science bachelor's degree programs.
