Essential Functions
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
• Enforce state and local laws.
• Performs patrol duties and responds to calls for service.
• Performs a variety of duties and tasks related to the protection of life, property, and the preservation of the constitutional rights of every citizen.
• Conducts criminal and traffic investigations, field interviews, serves warrants, subpoenas and other court papers.

Overview of Process:
Applicants must successfully complete the following steps.
• Personal History Booklet - used to gather information of your personal history.
• Physical Agility Test - events designed to simulate typical work-related situations, that require the ability to perform specific physical activities.
• 1.5-mile run - 16 minutes maximum time
• Obstacle Course

• Psychological Examination - using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Test (MMPI), used to assess personality traits and psychopathology , provided at City expense.
• Background Investigation - involves obtaining and verifying information related to prior employment, drug usage, personal and professional references and criminal records, DMV records and credit records.
• Polygraph Examination - used to verify the background data disclosed in the Personal History Booklet and employment application, provided at City expense. Deception noted in the areas of the automatic disqualifiers may prevent further processing of your application.
• Medical Examination - includes medical physical and drug screen , provided at City expense.
Tobacco Use:
Selected candidates will be required to sign an acknowledgement indicating that they will refrain from using tobacco products, both on and off-duty.
Signing Bonus:
This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period and/or recruit academy. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.
• Regular full-time and permanent part-time employees may receive paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, employer paid pension plan, basic life insurance, voluntary participation in medical and dental, Section 457 deferred compensation, long-term disability, optional life insurance for self, spouse and children, medical and dependent care reimbursement plans, access to membership in credit union and employer provided parking.
• Special project/grant employees are generally eligible for the same benefits of regular full-time employees; however, retirement, life insurance and participation in health plans vary depending upon funding and authorization.

If you are hired October 5, 2010, or after to a position with City of Norfolk Retirement System benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.
• The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply. • Polygraph Examination - used to verify the background data disclosed in the Personal History Booklet and employment application, provided at City expense. Deception noted in the areas of the automatic disqualifiers may prevent further processing of your application.
• Medical Examination - includes medical physical and drug screen , provided at City expense.
Tobacco Use:
Selected candidates will be required to sign an acknowledgement indicating that they will refrain from using tobacco products, both on and off-duty.
Signing Bonus:
This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period and/or recruit academy. Job Duties
Position contributes to the agency's public safety mission by providing supervision and monitoring of probationers from Courts and the Parole Board in accordance with DOC standards; to enhance public safety through supervision, follow-up, and the use of community resources, and commitment or re-commitment if necessary.
Position provides day-to-day supervision to probationers who require both intensive and regular probation/parole/post-release supervision; assesses the criminogenic and treatment needs of the probationer; actively applies evidence-based practices including effective communication skills, principles, and techniques to promote internal change within the probationer; collaborates with probationer, district, and community resources to develop and manage individualized treatment plans; makes home and community contacts in accord with case needs and supervision plans; prepares pre-sentence investigations, sentencing guidelines, and other reports as assigned in a timely manner; and testifies and provides sentencing recommendations to the court/attorney.
Probation Officers participate in Virginia Law Officers' Retirement System (VaLORS), which is a defined benefit plan with enhanced benefits for hazardous duty. VaLORS participants are eligible to retire at age 60 with five years of creditable service or as early as age 50 with 25 years of creditable service. A reduced benefit is available at age 50 with five years of creditable service.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Valid driver's license. Experience with adult individual counseling/casework including direct delivery of services. Working experience with the criminal justice system, case management and counseling techniques that may include Motivational Interviewing and other evidence-based practices Experience with writing reports and working with people in conflict with the legal system, to interpret and apply policies and procedures, and to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to exercise independent judgement and action and ability to work with diverse groups of probationers, co-workers and community-based professionals to accomplish collaborative and individual responsibilities.
The selected candidate must be eligible and successfully obtain required VCIN certification.

Job Duties:
The Virginia Industries for the Blind (VIB) is an enterprise division within the Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI). VIB seeks a Government Account Manager in outside federal sales to develop new customers while servicing current customers to meet our mission to provide jobs for Virginians who are blind or vision impaired. This position requires daily in-person interactions to understand our customers' needs and build relationships. It is primarily sales driven to increase revenue while developing new business and marketing the VIB Brand. Reporting to the Director of Brand, individual will work corroboratively with other account managers, federal Base Supply Store managers and regional managers. Possess keen subject knowledge of federal procurements and VIB products made in Richmond and Charlottesville and service capabilities. Working with various suppliers and vendors will enhance our product offerings to our federal and state customers.
This covers Hampton Roads (Peninsula and Southside regions)
Minimum Qualifications:
The Ideal Candidate will have:
Knowledge/Experience - A valid driver’s license. Experience in federal outside sales and relationship building.
Skills/Abilities - Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written. Skills in analyzing, problem solving and exercising good judgement in critical decision making. Ability to interpret and apply AbilityOne, Federal and State procurement policies. Ability to work independently conducting in-person interactions to potential and existing clients.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors, internal employees and agency employees. Good computer skills utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
Military ID card (retired, reserve, guard or retired spouse) to gain access credentials to military installations. Knowledgeable of federal government and Virginia state procurement methods. (Government Purchase Card, MILSTRIP, MIPR, Electronic Virginia (eVA)). Prior experience in Maintenance, Repair, Operation (MRO), Tactical and/or Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) sales.
