THE OPPORTUNITY:
The County of Orange has exciting job opportunities for Office Supervisor C positions. In this role, the incumbent will supervise train, and motivate staff to utilize their skills and abilities to act in support of facilitating the success of the program and meeting the department's objectives.
Other Duties and Responsibilities of the Office Supervisor C:
• Planning, organizing, and prioritizing the work of the unit
• Assigning work to staff
• Setting and recommending work performance standards
• Developing, directing, and training subordinate staff on how to perform work, as well as the department policies and procedures
• Evaluating, preparing, and presenting performance evaluations
• Collaborating with Senior Office Supervisors and other supervisors to keep them apprised of unit's status and updates as needed
• Collaborating with a variety of stakeholders depending on the assignment
• Utilizing MS programs and navigating a variety of software systems to complete assignment
• Performing other duties as assigned
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIES:
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience supervising multiple staff and will have the ability to work in a very busy, fast paced environment.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS - Social Services Agency (SSA)
SSA candidates will be required to undergo a background clearance check and must successfully clear prior to the start of their employment. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Areas considered in the background check include conviction history, employment history, professional references and education verification (i.e. degree, license, or official transcripts) if applicable. Foreign degrees require an evaluation of U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Services (N.A.C.E.S.) In addition, a Child Abuse Central Index (CACI) background clearance check may be required. CACI is a repository of child abuse investigation reports managed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) that contains information related to substantiated cases of physical abuse, sexual abuse, mental/emotional abuse, and/or severe neglect of a child.

TRAINING EXPECTATIONS
It is required that new Eligibility Technicians (ETs) complete mandatory training in a classroom setting or online. In Assistance Programs, newly hired ETs will be temporarily stationed at a regional office and will be trained via job shadowing until they are scheduled to attend the mandatory training.
WORK ASSIGNMENT, SCHEDULE and VACATION/TIME OFF REQUEST EXPECTATIONS
Both work assignment and schedule will be determined based on the needs of the department. Vacation/time off request is not permitted while in training, however, the department will evaluate requests on a case-by-case basis.

TRAINING EXPECTATIONS
It is required that new Eligibility Technicians (ETs) complete mandatory training in a classroom setting or online. In Assistance Programs, newly hired ETs will be temporarily stationed at a regional office and will be trained via job shadowing until they are scheduled to attend the mandatory training.
WORK ASSIGNMENT, SCHEDULE and VACATION/TIME OFF REQUEST EXPECTATIONS
Both work assignment and schedule will be determined based on the needs of the department. Vacation/time off request is not permitted while in training, however, the department will evaluate requests on a case-by-case basis.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will be required to undergo a background clearance check and must successfully clear prior to the start of their employment. All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of a background check. Areas considered in the background check include conviction history, employment history, professional references and education verification (i.e. degree, license, or official transcripts) if applicable. OCSD Deputy Sheriff Trainee Mentoring Program
The Mentoring Program is a voluntary, but highly recommended academy preparation program. This program is open to candidates who are currently in the background process with the Orange County Sheriff's Department and receive a referral from their background investigator. Any County of Orange employee who voluntarily participates shall do so off duty; no County employee may participate during their scheduled working hours. The Mentoring Program is designed to introduce candidates to academy protocol, memory work and physical training. Mentoring staff may evaluate and record participant performance and this information may be used for individual assessments and selection by the Professional Standards Division; meaning, an individual's performance / behavior at mentoring sessions may be evaluated prior to being selected for hire as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Age: Must be at least 21 years of age on date of appointment.

TESTING PROCESS/SELECTION PROCEDURE

Physical Agility Test (Pass/Fail): A physical agility test will be given on the same day to those who are referred from the pre-investigative interview. The physical agility test consists of three components.
Applicants must be dressed in physical training attire to participate. Applicants who pass the physical agility test will be referred to the oral panel interview, commencing the following weeks.
• 30 Push-Ups: Complete 30 push-ups within 2 minutes.
• 30 Sit-Ups: Complete 30 sit-ups within 2 minutes.
• 1.5 Mile Run: Complete one and a half (1.5) miles on a flat surface within 14 minutes.
Oral Panel Interview (Refer/Non-Refer): Candidates will be interviewed and rated by a panel comprised of subject matter experts and civilian personnel. Each candidate's rating will be based on responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the candidate's qualifications for the position. Those who score high enough on the oral panel interview will be scheduled for a background interview with a Background Investigator.

OCSD Deputy Sheriff Trainee Mentoring Program
The Mentoring Program is a voluntary, but highly recommended academy preparation program. This program is open to candidates who are currently in the background process with the Orange County Sheriff's Department and receive a referral from their background investigator. Any County of Orange employee who voluntarily participates shall do so off duty; no County employee may participate during their scheduled working hours. The Mentoring Program is designed to introduce candidates to academy protocol, memory work and physical training. Mentoring staff may evaluate and record participant performance and this information may be used for individual assessments and selection by the Professional Standards Division; meaning, an individual's performance / behavior at mentoring sessions may be evaluated prior to being selected for hire as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee.

TESTING PROCESS/SELECTION PROCEDURE
Sheriff Human Resources screens all applications and supplemental information to identify qualified candidates. After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process.
Written Exam (Pass/Fail): Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to the written exam via email. The written exam consists of job-related, multiple choice questions. Applicants who pass the written exam will be referred to the pre-investigative interview the same day.

Physical Agility Test (Pass/Fail): A physical agility test will be given on the same day to those who are referred from the pre-investigative interview. The physical agility test consists of three components.
Applicants must be dressed in physical training attire to participate. Applicants who pass the physical agility test will be referred to the oral panel interview, commencing the following weeks.
• 30 Push-Ups: Complete 30 push-ups within 2 minutes.

Oral Panel Interview (Refer/Non-Refer): Candidates will be interviewed and rated by a panel comprised of subject matter experts and civilian personnel. Those who score high enough on the oral panel interview will be scheduled for a background interview with a Background Investigator.

THE OPPORTUNITY

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Park Maintenance Worker I position performs routine unskilled and semiskilled grounds maintenance, landscape, and facility maintenance, along with repair work. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Clean and inspect amenities such as bathrooms, offices, or outdoor areas
• Hardscape and landscape maintenance including removal of debris, vegetation, weed control, washing, raking, or concrete patching
• Removing trash bags or litter and performing trash receptacle maintenance
• General custodial services including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and cleaning
• Small equipment operation and maintenance
• Administrative and customer service tasks that include public contact
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience in the following core competencies:
Technical Expertise
• Experience with landscaping and lawn care
• Experience with basic plumbing, masonry and carpentry work
• Experience in hand and power tools used in facilities and ground maintenance and repair
• Understanding and following maintenance practices and procedures
• Understanding instructions and carrying out tasks verbally and in writing
Safety Savvy
• Operating equipment and tools utilizing safe operating procedures
• Identifying, reporting and correcting equipment problems in an efficient and timely manner

THE DEPARTMENT

THE DIVISION
The Sheriff's Correctional Programs and Inmate Re-Entry Units of the Inmate Services Division provide inmates the opportunity for an effective rehabilitative experience while incarcerated, without cost to taxpayers. Inmate programs and services related to rehabilitation opportunities are mandated by the California Code of Regulations, Title 15 "Minimum Jail Standards" and related case law. These activities are planned, coordinated, conducted and evaluated at each OCSD jail facility by the Correctional Programs and Inmate Re-Entry staff. Typical programs include certified education in academic studies, vocational education training and life skill classes such as Parenting and Job Development. The Programs and Re-Entry Units also provide opportunities for personal change, including programs focusing on substance abuse recovery, domestic violence, anger management, library services, religious and inspirational programs and pre-release preparation and assistance as well as post release services – all designed to maximize the chances of an inmate's successful transition to the community at release and to help reduce recidivism.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Inmate Services Division, has a need for a Education Services Coordinator.
An incumbent typically coordinates inmate educational services at one or more facilities within the Sheriff's correctional system. This responsibility includes all testing, verification, reporting, record keeping and correspondence with State/Authorized test center officials for G.E.D. or other certification of qualified inmate at the assigned facility(ies). The work regularly involves instructing other staff on administering education program services and keeping records. An incumbent has continuing responsibility for the security of all test materials and the accuracy and technical correctness of all reports and records pertaining to correctional educational activities at the assigned facilities subject to review by supervision for conformance to departmental, State and federal policies and procedures. Each incumbent is designated as an Alternate Chief Examiner for the G.E.D. program in the Sheriff's correctional system, under State and federal regulations.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience: working with adult students, college instructors, and security personnel, in a correctional setting, in planning, assigning, and supervising work in administering group instruction, experience conducting assessment, testing, preparing courses of study and daily lesson plans; counseling students as to their academic progress in the classroom; possess experience being around inmates; controlling and managing materials and equipment that may be used as potential weapons.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
General Knowledge of:
• Principles and methods of administering written tests and scoring and analyzing test results
• State and federal requirements for certification of individual educational attainment
• Principles and methods of interviewing and counseling individuals regarding educational goals, attainment and requirements
• Techniques and methods of instructing others and obtaining their cooperation in accomplishing moderately complex tasks
• Principles of operation of videotape playback equipment
Ability to:
• Communicate effectively, orally and in writing
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with inmates and staff, and elicit cooperation from others in carrying out planned activities
• Learn, interpret and apply detailed rules and regulations
• Prepare detailed and accurate records and reports
• Operate movie and video tape projectors, recorders and other audiovisual equipment
Education and Experience
A bachelor's degree in teaching, training, counseling or testing, or equivalent education and/or experience, as verified by the office of the G.E.D. Coordinator, California Department of Education.
License/Certification
Certification as qualified to be Chief Examiner/Alternate Chief Examiner for an official G.E.D. Testing Center by the Department of Education, State of California.
Possession of a valid California driver license by date of appointment. The County may waive this requirement when an alternative method of transportation is available which is acceptable to the County.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must NOT have been convicted of a felony or be on any form of probation and must pass an extensive background investigation to the satisfaction of the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner.
The background screening includes completing a Personal History Form, interview with a background investigator, fingerprinting and may include a polygraph test. Some of the areas considered in the background screening include prior convictions, traffic violations, drug use, credit problems, employment history, professional references, and education verification (i.e.. degree, license, or official transcripts). Foreign degrees require an evaluation for U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Services (N.A.C.E.S.).

This recruitment is being held to establish an Open Eligible List to fill Orange County Sheriff's Department positions in this class until the next recruitment. This list may also be used to fill closely related positions.
Incumbents will be periodically rotated through assignments, shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and correctional facilities.
A Sheriff's Correctional Services Assistant Trainee will be required to attend and satisfactorily complete the 9-week department sponsored training course within the employee's probationary period. Trainees are expected to successfully pass the 9-week required training course and promote to Sheriff's Correctional Services Assistant within the one (1) year probationary period.
General Duties: Attends scheduled department mandated in-service training sessions; learns principles, practices and theory of civil law, CDCR regulations and Title 15 mandates as they relate to the intake, care and security of persons incarcerated within the Orange County Jail System; learns about the organization, jail operations, security and compliance with administrative regulations, judicial rulings and the Sheriff-Coroner Department's Manuals, Policy & Procedures, and Rules & Regulations; prepares and maintains a training notebook; prepares thorough, clear and concise reports and memos as directed by training staff. Maintains proper uniform appearance; may be assigned to other closely supervised duties in the Jail or other areas of the Sheriff-Coroner Department.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony or be on any form of probation and must pass an extensive background investigation to the satisfaction of the Sheriff-Coroner. Background investigation includes but not limited to: polygraph examination, medical examination (including drug urinalysis test) and a written and oral psychological exam. By date of appointment, applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: U.S. High School Diploma -OR- U.S. General Education Development Credential (GED) -OR- A California High School Proficiency Certificate -OR- Have attained a two-year or four-year degree from an accredited college or university.
Ability to: Read, understand, interpret and apply departmental policies, rules, laws and regulations pertaining to the care and security of inmates within an adult correctional facility; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; write clear and comprehensive reports; learn effective security and safety controls; communicate orally; learn to utilize various management information systems and automation tools to maintain and access case file information and electronic communications via desktop computer systems and computer networks; understand and carry out oral and written directions.
License Required: By date of appointment, applicant must possess a valid California Driver's License, or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Physical Requirements: Incumbents must have independent body mobility to stand, stoop, bend and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and to drag a 165 pound Dummy for 12 feet; climb a ladder, scaffolds, stairs, etc., sit and stand for prolonged periods of time; speak and hear well enough to converse in person; communicate clearly and understandably over the phone and to address large groups of people; and vision sufficient to read standard text, a computer screen and oversee large groups of inmates.
TESTING PROCESS/SELECTION PROCEDURE
Sheriff Human Resources screens all applications to identify qualified candidates. After screening, the more qualified candidates will be referred to the next step in the recruitment process.
Written Exam / Pre-Screen: (Pass/Fail) Those who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to the written exam / physical agility test via email. The written exam consists of job-related, multiple choice questions. Those who successfully pass the written exam will be given a pre-investigative interview and may be referred to the physical agility test. (Pass/Fail)
Physical Agility Test: (Pass/Fail) The physical agility test will be given on the same day immediately following the pre-investigative interview. The physical agility test consists of three events that are timed and scored. Applicants must be dressed in physical training attire to participate.
Sit-ups: Complete 12 sit-ups within 2 minutes
Push-ups: Complete 12 push-ups within 2 minutes
3/4 Mile Run: Complete 3/4 mile run within 8 minutes and 15 seconds
Oral Panel Interview: (Refer/Non-refer) Candidates will be interviewed and rated by a panel comprised of subject matter experts and civilian personnel. Each candidate's rating will be based on responses to a series of structured questions designed to elicit the candidate's qualifications for the position.
ELIGIBLE LIST
After all testing/selection procedures have been completed, the Sheriff's Human Resources will establish an Eligible List of qualified candidates.
