The incumbent is expected to work comfortably and with a high degree of expertise in a shared decision-making environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
• American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in library science or Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, or the international equivalents.
• Basic knowledge of trends, issues, and standards in music special collections management Basic understanding and commitment to accepted protocols for arrangement, description, cataloging, and preserving archival materials
• Basic knowledge of best-practices for selecting, appraising, and describing archives in print, digital and other formats Excellent written, interpersonal, communication, and project management skills
• Demonstrated ability to read music
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse community of faculty, students, visiting scholars, university administrators, community users, and current and potential donors
• Strong commitment to public services with an understanding of the services and use of archives
• Basic prior experience working in an Archives setting
• Some prior experience providing familiarity with music-specific research; music cataloging and exposure to emerging trends in music librarianship.

Preferred:
• Some knowledge of intellectual property issues related to archives, libraries, and special collections and copyright issues associated with print and digital technologies
• Demonstrated ability to participate in donor relations, collection solicitation, and gift management
• Demonstrated ability to participate in the preparation and management of grants
• Some prior work experience with standards based on non-MARC metadata schemas and archival description and content standards
• Some prior work experience with collection development.

Excellent computer skills: Work experience within a collegiate setting is highly preferred. Knowledge of student development theory preferred. Some experience in the development and implementation of programs in a variety of fitness and wellness areas, including but not limited to exercise prescription and program design; nutrition education; stress and time management; weight management.
• First Aid, CPR and AED certifications required. Possession of or ability to acquire a valid Virginia State driver’s license is required. A minimum of 1 nationally recognized fitness certification such as: AFAA, ACSM, NASM, ACE, NSCA, or CSCS in Personal Training is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Additional certifications i.e. Group Exercise Instructor or Personal Training are preferred. Some experience with staff management, student employee management, revenue projection, and/or fitness program management are preferred.

Preferred experience in campus recreation.
