They will also contribute to departmental public services, planning, assessment, and engagement efforts, as well assist with grant/donor funded projects. The Curator also represents the ODU Libraries within the commonwealth, and at the regional and national level regarding issues related to special collections and archives. The incumbent is expected to work comfortably and with a high degree of expertise in a shared decision-making environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
• American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in library science or Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, or the international equivalents.
• Basic knowledge of trends, issues, and standards in music special collections management Basic understanding and commitment to accepted protocols for arrangement, description, cataloging, and preserving archival materials
• Basic knowledge of best-practices for selecting, appraising, and describing archives in print, digital and other formats Excellent written, interpersonal, communication, and project management skills
• Demonstrated ability to read music
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse community of faculty, students, visiting scholars, university administrators, community users, and current and potential donors
• Strong commitment to public services with an understanding of the services and use of archives
• Basic prior experience working in an Archives setting
• Some prior experience providing familiarity with music-specific research; music cataloging and exposure to emerging trends in music librarianship.

• Some knowledge of intellectual property issues related to archives, libraries, and special collections and copyright issues associated with print and digital technologies
