If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our team as a Social Media Specialist.
The Ohio History Connection is the state's history partner, and we spark discovery of Ohio stories by embracing the present, sharing the fast and transforming the future.
We need a natural storyteller with abilities to plan organization-wide strategies and keep in alignment with all media channels; craft inviting, engaging content in both educational and promotional formats; and analyze how our efforts are landing with our visitors, followers and stakeholders.
Applicants should have at least 2 years of professional experience or an equivalent aggregate demonstration of their skills, with a bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English or related field or equivalent in work experience.
The work environment is hybrid and flexible, balancing time in the Marketing office in the Ohio History Center in Columbus with remote work, site visits and event coverage. Occasional work-hours travel throughout state and the capacity to navigate sites to record social media material are required.
You would:
• Serve as the key social media creator and authority by developing content across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and TikTok, curating appropriate content for the specific platform.
• Develop and cultivate ties with influencers and other social media thought leaders.
• Monitor Ohio History Connection social media feeds, balancing a daily schedule with after-business hours and weekend work, with support from other team members.
• Write copy, film events or plan content modules to engage audiences and promote events and issues.
• Track social engagement analytics.
• Anticipate trends so that Ohio History Connection always is seen as current, vibrant and in step with public sentiment.
You must have:
• Demonstrated ability with essential social media platforms, management tools, analytics, strategies and best practices.
• Knowledge of adapting content to match voice, tone and audience using brand style guidelines.
• High-level organizational and communications skills, including the ability to create and manage a social media calendar that involves content creators throughout the organization.
• Basic video editing skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively to complement efforts within the larger marketing and communications team.
• Demonstrated good judgment on editorial decisions for content use.
The Ohio History Connection offers a competitive salary and benefits package, as well as enrollment in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System.
