Responsibilities

• Triage GitHub issues opened by community members, providing best effort assistance, document bug reports and route them to the appropriate engineering team, and collect feedback to summarize and present to stakeholders.
• Review pull requests contributed by community members, ensure code quality and alignment with overall project goals, test community contributions, and collaborate with the relevant engineering team to merge them.
• Maintain a visible community presence and serve as a resource in the Rancher user Slack and forums.
• Provide engineering support and guidance to SUSE developer advocates and technical writers.
• Demonstrate best practices in software engineering, open source collaboration, and community participation.
• Hold regular open office hours, present at conferences and meetups, and represent SUSE in the open source cloud native community.

The Role

SUSE 's Commercial Organisation is seeking to appoint a Global Head of Audit and Compliance within the commercial team to manage, optimise and deliver the global compliance and audit function to the group .

The SUSE compl ian ce and audit team ensure that customers comply with the subscription requirements set out in their respective contrac ts and terms and conditions, ensuring SUSE is paid for the software and support being provided and used by customers. As a Container Engineer in the SUSE Edge Business Unit, you will be joining a growing team responsible for leading SUSE's strategic investment to be the open-source edge infrastructure company. SUSE's edge infrastructure platform provides retail, automotive, manufacturing, industrial, telco and other edge market segments with a mission-critical environment for deploying applications on remote edge devices. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build innovative open-source software in the container space. You will be a key player in delivering solutions enriching the user experience of cloud-native platforms such as Kubernetes and making the life easier for people running containerized workloads. Your expertise will assist in creating infrastructure that is rich enough to host complex applications but flexible enough to scale from hundreds to millions of instances and be deployed across different vertical edge market segments.

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Contribute to the edge technical strategy and edge technology roadmap for mission critical, large-scale, edge infrastructure deployments.
• Track upstream open-source projects and competitive industry products to identify and evaluate relevant developments and features.
• Contribute enhancements, bug fixes and functionality additions to open-source projects such as Rancher, Kubernetes, Akri and Fleet.
• Contribute enhancements, bug fixes and functionality additions to SUSE branded product versions of container, container orchestration and edge open-source projects.
• Collaborate with edge product management to properly position SUSE edge products and solutions.
• Provide a point of escalation for SUSE support, consulting, presales, and product teams facing technical challenges with SUSE edge products.
• In concert with SUSE product management, represent the edge business unit with customer engagements and initiatives. Share edge technology strategy and edge technology roadmaps and utilize customer input to shape future edge technology strategy and direction.
• Present at relevant events (e.g., conferences, user groups, meetups, webinars).
• Communicate regularly via blogs, social media, and presentations.
• Participate in and provide input on process selection of future technical contributors.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with both Linux and containers/micro-services architectures.
• Experience with container orchestration solutions.
• Experience with development of cloud native applications.
• Hands-on software development experience in a variety of programming languages.
• Experience with Agile methodologies.
• Experience with infrastructure components like (but not limited to): Kubernetes, Linux, OpenStack, AWS, Azure, Rancher, Ansible, Terraform, Akraino, etc.
• Ability to quickly grasp and evaluate new ideas and technologies from internal and external sources and match them with appropriate technology and business problems to yield pragmatic innovation.
• A background in working with open-source community projects.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with a distributed team. You will be expected to engage with team members across many time zones and cultures.
• Ability to thrive in a fully remote organization.
