About the role and you

About the role

As a Senior Data Engineer joining Ordnance Survey’s Data Capture and Engineering team, you will provide leadership and expertise in developing new techniques, tools and pipelines. Location

We embrace a hybrid working model at OS and understand there is no one size fits all in relation to how we work. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you can work as regularly as you want to, with the remaining time being a personal choice as to whether you work from home, one of our regional offices or spend more time at OSHQ.

Ordnance Survey is also able to consider offering fully remote contracts in the appropriate circumstances.

We would expect you to attend in person for training and consolidation learning lasting up to 6 months, after which, options for working from home can be discussed with line management. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £26,801 per annum.

As our Data Quality Analyst, you will help us to collect, edit, and maintain the most accurate and up-to-date geographical information of Great Britain. Initially you will be working with either topographic data or network data although there are many other production activities within the Cartography & Data Enhancement team which you may get involved with. The role involves regular investigation and ‘hands on’ manipulation of geospatial data. Additional tasks may become available that look to enhance, update attribution to improve OS data.

All training will be provided to help you develop in the role. This is a desktop PC based activity. Training for the role will take place in person at Ordnance Survey head office in Southampton where we would expect you to attend in person for training and consolidation learning lasting up to 6 months, after which, options for working from home can be discussed with line management.

What we’re looking for in our Data Quality Analyst

You will need to demonstrate your track record against the following criteria:
• Good attention to detail; able to consistently produce high quality work against an established set of rules and guidelines
• The ability to understand and interpret maps and mapping, an understanding of ArcGIS (or similar) would be an advantage
• Planning, scheduling, and monitoring personal production to effectively contribute to individual and team targets
• Identifying, communicating, and implementing technical and process improvements to increase personal and team performance
• Displaying positive behaviours when working with others and creating a professional and trusting relationship with a wide range of people
• Good level of communication, both verbal and written
• Positive attitude even when under pressure with proven track record of meeting deadlines

For this role, you will need to have:
• Secondary level education qualification (NQF level 3, A level, BTEC or equivalent)
• Computer literacy, with an aptitude to learn new software packages. Support and any necessary training will be provided.
• Experience in using Geographic Information Systems (desirable)
