Owned and operated by Metro Regional Government, the Oregon Zoo has an annual attendance of over 1.6 million visitors. The zoo is highly regarded nationally, regionally and locally. The Oregon Zoo is home to over 2,000 animals representing 225 species of amphibians, birds, fish, invertebrates and mammals.
Oregon Zoo's state-of-the-art Veterinary Medical Center opened in 2012. This 15,000-square-foot building is LEED Gold Certified and includes exam room, surgical suite, radiology room and in- house laboratory and necropsy room. It has all necessary equipment for basic and advanced anesthetic monitoring and diagnostic techniques, including rigid and flexible endoscopy, digital radiography and ultrasound. In addition, the Oregon Zoo Hospital is one of the few in the country that has an on-site CT scan. The zoo's endocrinology lab also offers expertise and experience with animal welfare research and welfare-based care.
The Oregon Zoo is seeking a permanent full-time clinical Veterinarian. This position is responsible for the updating, execution and oversight of the preventative health program and the care of sick and injured animals, the pathology program and support and interface with other Zoo departments. The selected candidate will assist with the supervision of animal health staff during clinical procedures, and participate in conservation, research and teaching aspects of the Animal Health Program as needed.
As the Veterinarian you will:
• Work in collaboration with the rest of the Animal Health team to achieve the following:
• Proactive animal health care program which uses current preventative medicine, diagnostic and treatment practices.
• Maximum reproductive potential of endangered species through development of specialized veterinary medical practices.
• Human and animal safety through development of programs to limit zoonotic disease transmission and transmission of disease between animals.
• Animal safety by consulting on zoo pest control program.
• Maximum individual animal welfare. The veterinarian will act as an expert consultant for animal programs and committees and serve as a resource for all zoo staff on issues related to animal health.
• Supervise and direct technical staff as they assist during medical procedures.
• Participates, in consultation with nutritionist, in the development and modification of balanced diets for zoo animals.
• Works with other zoo staff to encourage natural behaviors in zoo animals, participates in behavioral training of animals for medical procedures, and provides training of animal keepers and other zoo staff about zoonotic diseases and veterinary considerations of zookeeping and animal handling when required.
• Maintains comprehensive animal health records in compliance with Animal Welfare Act and other applicable groups and reports communicable diseases to state and local health departments.
• Comply with all Drug Enforcement Agency regulations regarding the ordering, inventory maintenance, and use of controlled drugs
• In consultation with curatorial staff, determine when animals require euthanasia due to their medical condition, age, or quality of life and perform this procedure when appropriate.
• Performs gross postmortem examinations and interprets laboratory analysis for the purpose of preventing similar deaths; cooperates with academic and scientific community by providing biomaterials.
• Assists with management of the veterinary student externship programs, including the mentoring and teaching of veterinary students and veterinary technician students.
• Be familiar with and participate fully in emergency response preparedness and execution, including dangerous animal escapes, fire, weather emergencies, and employee injury including potent narcotic exposure and other zoo emergencies.
• Helps to ensure zoo compliance with all state and federal regulations and AZA accreditation guidelines relating to animal care, husbandry, and shipments.
• Provide veterinary support to the Zoo's ongoing research and conservation programs as needed.

• Proven ability to perform sedation and anesthesia successfully and safely in a large variety of zoo animals ranging from fish to megavertebrates and apes.
• Demonstrated ample technical skillset working with exotic zoo animals in a clinical environment.

Position summary

About the work
Examples of the work may include: being responsive to users and staff against trespass, vandalism, theft, fire or other potential harm and/or threat through patrol of facilities during scheduled shifts. As a representative of our venue, security agents will also act as ambassadors by regularly interacting with the public to answer questions, give directions and provide general assistance. As such, candidates should be dependable, trustworthy and honest and enjoy interacting with the public.
Relief Security Agents may also be scheduled at other Metro Visitor Venues, including the Portland'5 Centers for the Arts and the Portland Expo Center.
As the Relief Public Safety Agent you will:
• Patrols assigned facility on foot (at times walking, at times running), by use of a department vehicle, or on bicycle providing protection against trespass, vandalism, theft, fire or other threats
• Investigates suspicious persons or activities
• Provides excellent customer service when answering questions and providing information to the public; investigates complaints and recommends necessary corrective action to resolve complaints
• Calls for emergency services when required and is able to provide all relevant information pertaining to the emergency
• Checks facilities and equipment for needed maintenance and repairs; turns lights and alarms on and off; locks/unlocks areas as assigned
• Maintains time, equipment use, incident records and any other DSS forms and logs as required
• Monitors fire alarm systems and is responsible for executing the facility's emergency procedures in the event of an emergency. Responds to alarms and interacts with various internal and external departments to coordinate, plan and take appropriate action
• Maintains radio communications with supervisor and other security agents
• Monitors video surveillance and building access system according to pre-established procedures

The Oregon Convention Center is seeking responsible on-call Relief Facility Security Agents to provide security and maintain safety for all clients, guests and visitors and to ensure everyone has an opportunity to enjoy our venue in a safe and responsible manner during events. About the work
Examples of the work may include: being responsive to users and staff against trespass, vandalism, theft, fire or other potential harm and/or threat through patrol of facilities during scheduled shifts. As a representative of our venue, security agents will also act as ambassadors by regularly interacting with the public to answer questions, give directions and provide general assistance. As such, candidates should be dependable, trustworthy and honest and enjoy interacting with the public.
Relief Security Agents may also be scheduled at other Metro Visitor Venues, including the Portland'5 Centers for the Arts and the Portland Expo Center.
As the Relief Public Safety Agent you will:
• Patrols assigned facility on foot (at times walking, at times running), by use of a department vehicle, or on bicycle providing protection against trespass, vandalism, theft, fire or other threats
• Investigates suspicious persons or activities
• Provides excellent customer service when answering questions and providing information to the public; investigates complaints and recommends necessary corrective action to resolve complaints
• Calls for emergency services when required and is able to provide all relevant information pertaining to the emergency
• Checks facilities and equipment for needed maintenance and repairs; turns lights and alarms on and off; locks/unlocks areas as assigned
• Maintains time, equipment use, incident records and any other DSS forms and logs as required
• Monitors fire alarm systems and is responsible for executing the facility's emergency procedures in the event of an emergency. Responds to alarms and interacts with various internal and external departments to coordinate, plan and take appropriate action
• Maintains radio communications with supervisor and other security agents
• Monitors video surveillance and building access system according to pre-established procedures
• Uses basic computer skills to operate computer to complete reports, receive assignments and for other duties, as needed
• Provides medical assistance and calls for help if needed. Assists in the evacuation of patrons and employees in emergencies
• Apprehends, detains and arrests persons who violate local, state and federal laws
• Assists medical personnel by directing traffic, crowd control and securing needed equipment
• Performs assigned duties during an emergency situation

The Oregon Zoo is hiring for multiple positions as a Public Safety Officer. In this role you will perform a variety of functions that may include grounds patrol, crowd management, medical assistance, traffic control, emergency response, reporting, guest safety reminders and other related duties. Public Safety Officer shifts may include days, swing, nights, weekends and holidays. These positions are classified as variable hour. As the Public Safety Officeryou will:
• Opportunity to assist the public, public officials and other employees in a professional and courteous manner, by answering any questions or provide directions and information about the zoo.
• Applicant must be able to patrol over a 65- acre area, which can equate to exceed 10 miles per day.
• Duties of the position are performed indoors and outdoors and may be performed in inclement weather conditions.
• Investigates complaints and recommends corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
• Perform Basic First Aid and CPR on patrons and employees.
• Checks facilities for needed maintenance and repairs.
• Supports conservation efforts by turning off and reporting powered items not in use.
• Maintains time, equipment use and incident records.
• Writes detailed security incident reports (data entry skills needed).
• Maintains radio communications with supervisors and other security agents.
• Responds to all alarms and emergency calls, evaluates for additional response.
• Assists in the evacuation of patrons and employees in emergencies.

Metro's Parks and Nature department is seeking someone to coordinate emergency response, safety, and training for the park operations staff. This candidate will have a background that includes working with public safety agencies, knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations and experience developing training programs including those that support the mental health and well-being of staff and trauma informed care. As the Emergency Response and Training Program Analyst you will:
• Function as subject-matter-expert with emergency response for Park Operations including maintaining and updating emergency response plans, coordinating with public safety agencies, and responding as needed to major emergency events.
• Identify and obtain needed training for Park Operations staff and other similar positions within Parks and Nature.
• Ensure all safety manuals, programs, policies, and practices are current and meet the needs of the Park Operations teams.
• Liaison with Metro Risk in administrating incident reporting for Park Operations and performing OSHA required and assigned investigations.
• Responsible for trunked radio system agreement, equipment (purchasing and inventory) and training.
• Identify and administrate support programs intended to cultivate resilience and mental health for Park Operations staff.

Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree emergency management, business management, parks and recreation, public administration, or any closely related field; AND
• Five years of directly related and progressively responsible experience in the following:
• Experience in occupational health and safety
• Experience and background with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and incident Command System (ICS) at various agency levels of application including, federal, state, local and non-profit emergency operations.
• Experience in training, education and administrating safety program deliverables.

Working schedule: Position is considered to have a hybrid schedule, with some days available for teleworking, but most days will need to be onsite. May need to work weekends or after-hours in response to emergencies.

COMPENSATION AND REPRESENTATION

Are you familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)? Are you passionate about ensuring places, programs, and activities are accessible for everyone? Do you have experience working with disabilities communities? If so, Metro is excited to recruit you for the Accessibility Specialist role.
As a member of Metro's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Department, the Accessibility Specialist will ensure the timely and ongoing compliance of programs, services, and activities with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other related laws. In this position, you will help set the tone for the agency in approaching accessibility.
As the Accessibility Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting the development of Metro's Title II Accessibility Program with Metro staff and community partners. Through this program, you will help Metro build strategic partnerships that elevate the disabilities community voices and influence Metro systems and processes. This position will:
Provide project management and administrative support for key initiatives and projects.
Support the ADA Coordinator with developing and implementing a strategic, agency-wide vision for disability programming to advance accessibility and meet organizational needs.
Plan, coordinate, and manage short and long-term project tasks and assist policy research and analysis of agency operations, program evaluation, and tracking performance measures.
Apply and maintain knowledge of legal and regulatory ADA Title II requirements, universal and inclusive design principles, disability justice, and serve as a resource on accessibility-related topics to Metro staff.
Manage partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and provide staffing management for community advisory committees.
Serve as a liaison, mediator, and facilitator to support disability program development and ADA Title II compliance across Metro's departments and venues.
Communications and Engagement:
Support the launch of Metro's agency-wide Accessibility Advisory Committee comprised of community members with lived or professional experience with disabilities. Manage and lead the engagement, support the Committee's work, and maintain the tracking of the missions and goals of the Committee.
Have skills to develop and nurture relationships with leadership and staff of community-based organizations. Be comfortable engaging directly (in person, by email, text, phone, video, and other communications technologies) with a wide range of people from diverse cultures and lived experiences to understand their unique perspectives to advance shared program goals.
Expand and maintain relationships with diverse internal and external audiences, such as venues/departments and staff, representatives of other public agencies, the public, and others.
Skills in managing welcoming, inclusive, and fully accessible meetings and the ability to coordinate the planning of public meetings, workshops, or community events.
Support the development of coordinated and consistent language in communicating accessibility processes, procedures, and policies, staff awareness and training on ADA Title II and Section 504 obligations, and shared resources on accessibility needs.
Support the development and maintenance of the shared resources within Metro to create an accessible and inclusive Metro.
Support the ongoing maintenance of a cross-departmental team of agency decision-makers and staff for consistent agency efforts and capacity to advance accessibility.
Support the development and facilitation of ADA Title II and Section 504 related training and resources for Metro Staff.
Metro's Accessibility Program:
Inform and support the development and implementation of the agency-wide program on disability centering a disability justice framework, providing strategic guidance to Metro leadership, departments, staff, jurisdictional partners, and community members.
Conduct research and analysis on Metro operations and policies to identify accessibility gaps, and inform and define programmatic, operational, and policy recommendations.
Support with the investigation and response of complaints alleging discriminationbased on disability.
Support the coordination of accommodations requests such as auxiliary aids and services, and reasonable modifications of policies, practices, and procedures.
Develop and maintain current knowledge regarding technology for effective communication.
Monitor and assist with the development of Metro's ongoing reporting on the implementation of its ADA Title II self-evaluation and transition plans.
Build agency understanding and use of accessibility best practices in policy, programs (community engagement, customer service and communications), and capital planning.
Support staff creation and implementation of Accessibility Plans and Metro's Strategic Plan to Advance Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Proven experience managing significant projects -including proficiency in coordinating diverse stakeholders, maintaining strong team communication, and meeting time-sensitive deadlines.

Are you familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)? Are you passionate about ensuring places, programs, and activities are accessible for everyone? Do you have experience working with disabilities communities? If so, Metro is excited to recruit you for the Accessibility Specialist role.
As a member of Metro's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Department, the Accessibility Specialist will ensure the timely and ongoing compliance of programs, services, and activities with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other related laws. In this position, you will help set the tone for the agency in approaching accessibility.
As the Accessibility Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting the development of Metro's Title II Accessibility Program with Metro staff and community partners. Through this program, you will help Metro build strategic partnerships that elevate the disabilities community voices and influence Metro systems and processes. This position will:
Provide project management and administrative support for key initiatives and projects.
Support the ADA Coordinator with developing and implementing a strategic, agency-wide vision for disability programming to advance accessibility and meet organizational needs.
Plan, coordinate, and manage short and long-term project tasks and assist policy research and analysis of agency operations, program evaluation, and tracking performance measures.
Apply and maintain knowledge of legal and regulatory ADA Title II requirements, universal and inclusive design principles, disability justice, and serve as a resource on accessibility-related topics to Metro staff.
Manage partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and provide staffing management for community advisory committees.
Serve as a liaison, mediator, and facilitator to support disability program development and ADA Title II compliance across Metro's departments and venues.
Communications and Engagement:
Support the launch of Metro's agency-wide Accessibility Advisory Committee comprised of community members with lived or professional experience with disabilities. Manage and lead the engagement, support the Committee's work, and maintain the tracking of the missions and goals of the Committee.
Have skills to develop and nurture relationships with leadership and staff of community-based organizations. Be comfortable engaging directly (in person, by email, text, phone, video, and other communications technologies) with a wide range of people from diverse cultures and lived experiences to understand their unique perspectives to advance shared program goals.
Expand and maintain relationships with diverse internal and external audiences, such as venues/departments and staff, representatives of other public agencies, the public, and others.
Skills in managing welcoming, inclusive, and fully accessible meetings and the ability to coordinate the planning of public meetings, workshops, or community events.
Support the development of coordinated and consistent language in communicating accessibility processes, procedures, and policies, staff awareness and training on ADA Title II and Section 504 obligations, and shared resources on accessibility needs.
Support the development and maintenance of the shared resources within Metro to create an accessible and inclusive Metro.
Support the ongoing maintenance of a cross-departmental team of agency decision-makers and staff for consistent agency efforts and capacity to advance accessibility.
Support the development and facilitation of ADA Title II and Section 504 related training and resources for Metro Staff.
Metro's Accessibility Program:
Inform and support the development and implementation of the agency-wide program on disability centering a disability justice framework, providing strategic guidance to Metro leadership, departments, staff, jurisdictional partners, and community members.
Conduct research and analysis on Metro operations and policies to identify accessibility gaps, and inform and define programmatic, operational, and policy recommendations.
Support with the investigation and response of complaints alleging discriminationbased on disability.
Support the coordination of accommodations requests such as auxiliary aids and services, and reasonable modifications of policies, practices, and procedures.
Develop and maintain current knowledge regarding technology for effective communication.
Monitor and assist with the development of Metro's ongoing reporting on the implementation of its ADA Title II self-evaluation and transition plans.
Build agency understanding and use of accessibility best practices in policy, programs (community engagement, customer service and communications), and capital planning.
Support staff creation and implementation of Accessibility Plans and Metro's Strategic Plan to Advance Racial Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

The Tax Compliance Program Manager will help meet the analytic and regulatory demands of the new Supportive Housing Services taxes. This will require maintaining, updating, and revising income tax code and administrative rules. The Tax Compliance Program Manager will help meet the analytic and regulatory demands of the new Supportive Housing Services taxes. This will require maintaining, updating, and revising income tax code and administrative rules. With the seasonality of income taxes, work fluctuates, allowing the position to increase the analytical capacity in the Finance and Regulatory Services Department (FRS) as the diversity of services and financing options for Metro increase.
As the Tax Compliance Program Manager you will:
• This position will oversee income tax code and administrative rules.
• Researching, maintaining, and recommending, amendments to tax codes and administrative rules.
• Monitor and regularly communicate to ensure compliance with all standards, policies, laws, rules, and regulations: and conduct independent research to stay current with income tax law at the state and national levels.
• In consultation with Fiscal & Tax Policy Director and/or the Office of the Metro Attorney to make potential revisions.
• Provide outreach and education to taxpayers.
• Provide support and respond to inquiries from 3rd party accounting professionals (e.g. CPA) as it related to excise tax filings.
• Provide and maintain publications related to tax compliance, including website publications and annual updates related to compliance, such as withholding tables.
• Present analyses in a variety of settings, including public meetings.

The Oregon Zoo has an opening for a Veterinary Technician who will function as a vital member of the veterinary care team in our state-of-the-art Veterinary Medical Center. Our ideal candidate has the skills necessary to successfully assist the veterinarians with a variety of technical duties, including anesthesia monitoring, diagnostics and imaging, clinical procedures, emergency services, hematology, triage and treatment on a wide range of zoo animal species.
As the Veterinary Technician you will:
Assist veterinarians in clinical procedures on a variety of zoo animal species:
Prepare treatment area or surgery room with appropriate instruments, monitoring equipment, and emergency supplies as indicated by the veterinarian.
Assist in safe and appropriate manual and chemical animal restraint techniques.
Perform as surgical nurse or anesthetist as directed by the veterinarian.
Administer treatments, collect samples in a variety of zoo animals, and keep records. Use advanced imaging equipment to produce diagnostic quality studies in all size of patients.
Clean instruments and work areas following medical procedures and sterilize surgical instruments and darts.
Perform resuscitation and emergency procedures in non-domestic mammals, avian and herptile species.
Perform in-house lab analysis including but not limited to:
Automated hematology and chemistry analysis in most mammal species.
Manual hematology of avian reptile and amphibian species.
Manual hematology with cell morphology description in elephant samples.
Identification of fecal parasites of avian, herptiles, and zoo mammal species. Use of advanced parasitological examinations in zoo animals.
Urinalysis and urine sediment evaluation of non-domestic species.
Cytology of samples from a variety of zoo animal species.
Dispense prescribed medications following appropriate labeling and controlled drug regulations with ability to provide keeper education on proper administration and observations.
Perform triage and treatment administration in non-domestic animals.
Contribute to the daily care and treatment of hospitalized, neonatal, and critical patients. Participate in operant conditioning training for medical behaviors and procedures as required by medical needs and as directed by the veterinarians.
Understand and be prepared for Emergency Code Responses.
May be required to prepare darts and immobilize an animal under the directive of a zoo veterinarian during an emergency situation.
Attributes for success:
Proven ability to monitor anesthesia in a large variety of zoo animals ranging from fish and insects to megavertebrates and apes.
Demonstrated ample technical skillset working with exotic zoo animals in a clinical environment including IV catheter placement and phlebotomy in zoo animals.
Adequate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and treatment of disease in non- domestic species.
Demonstrated knowledge of modern laboratory principles, techniques and equipment with the ability to apply them in clinical analysis.
Demonstrated ability to perform manual hematology on avian, amphibian and reptile species.
Demonstrated ability to perform CBC's and advanced skills for analysis of elephant blood samples.
Demonstrated skills to adequately perform cytology of samples of mammals, avian and herptile species.
Experience with infectious diseases and control procedures related to zoo animals. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions while working with zoo animals including knowledge of risk while working with ultra-potent opioids.
Knowledge of animal nursing concepts pertaining to zoo animals.
Demonstrated skill in the proper use of laboratory and veterinary medicine equipment such as gas anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment, IV fluid pumps, radiology equipment, ultrasound and endoscopy equipment, and microscopes and centrifuges.
Proven ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, integrity and confidentiality. Ability to clearly communicate technical medical information to non-technical staff.
